10 Places to Fall in Love With Fall

"Redwoods are synonymous with the forests of Northern California, but nestled in the foothills of Orange County, hundreds of miles south of their native range, you can find a three-acre oasis of these tall wonders in Southern California. Dating to the mid-1970s, these trees were saplings being given away by a local bank. The leftovers were donated to the county, which planted them in the shadow of the Carbon Canyon Dam.  At less than 50 years old, the tallest among this group is only almost 100 feet tall, dwarfed by the much, much older trees found up north, many of which are well over 300 feet tall." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Very nice park, The redwoods are beautiful. The trails are not hiking trails but more walking pathways, most lead to residential areas. Lots of rabbits and small animals on the move. This place is very clean park to the restrooms... $3 parking on weekdays $5 on weekends. Dog friendly. Enjoy

Beautiful park with plenty of picnic areas and a little lake. The trails are quite exposed. Definitely bring sun block and water if you're here to hike. It is also cool to see redwoods without having to go up North.

The park isn't very big overall. There were just two of us, and we spent about an hour walking around. However, the picnic area and playground near the main entrance are quite spacious, making it a great spot to relax and unwind. The paths are mostly flat and easy to walk on. We didn’t go up to the dam. Overall, it was just okay, so I’d give it three stars.

Carbon Canyon Regional Park is such a gem! We had a fantastic time wandering the walking trails. We made it up to the top of the dam and toward the redwood grove—though it was closed due to Santa Ana winds (totally understandable, but we’ll be back to see it!). From there, we picked up the Carbon Canyon Creek Trail, which was so peaceful and enjoyable. The January weather was sunny and just perfect for exploring. Some parts of the park are under construction, but honestly, it’s so well cared for that it didn’t bother us a bit. Parking is $5, and there’s plenty of space, so it was easy to get where we wanted to go. What really stood out was how much the park offers! Picnic tables galore, playgrounds for the kids, tennis courts, walking trails, benches for breaks, water stations, and even signs that share fun facts about the plants around the park. It’s a great place to relax, play, and soak up some nature. We’re already planning to come back soon!

Very nice regional park. There is an entrance fee, can pay with card. Very clean and well maintained. There are multiple trails with flat and mild gradients. The trails are dirt but mostly smooth such that a wheelchair or jogging stroller can maneuver pretty easily. We had a baby jogger and had no issues. The redwoods are pretty and nice. There are lots of tables and shaded areas at the main park. Many playgrounds. One playground has 2 accessible swings for those with disabilities. Downsides: lake smells and lots of goose poop otherwise a nice park and experience!

The sequoia trees were smaller in diameter than expected. Every trail led to a residential area. The main areas were lovely, with abundant foliage and beautiful flowers. Even the bees were busy pollinating.

We have the OC Parks pass and visited Carbon Canyon Regional Park one Sunday afternoon last year, and it was fantastic! It has a beautiful redwood grove, which is rare in Southern California. The hiking trail through the redwood grove is peaceful and easy for everyone. This park is definitely worth a visit!

I don't know if this is the best park for Christmas photos during the holidays because of their huge redwood trees. But I could swear every corner I turned someone with high powered camera was taking pictures. Great place to visit for picnics hiking biking tennis and even watching the 🦢. FYI it's $5 on weekends and $3 weekdays for parking.
