Immediately upon walking in, you step into the intimate bar, where Tim, the bartender happily greets you while serving and creating drinks for the bar and the restaurant. To the left is the hostess stand.
It was Christmas Eve, and we had a reservation, but we were able to be seated early. The restaurant was filled with local families and tourists, alike. Our server was the friendliest pop of joy, and he had a great energy.
The grilled Caesar is not your typical chopped salad. You get a head of romaine that has been grilled to perfection drizzled with a house made Caesar, some capers, parmesan, and house made croutons on the side. I've never had grilled lettuce, and my mind was blown!
The shrimp cocktail comes as 5 jumbo shrimp atop the restaurant's own cocktail sauce. This was also fantastic!
My son ordered the stuffed quail. The only other time I've had quail was from a street food vendor in Japan, and it wasn't horrible, but I said I'd likely not eat it again. Let me tell you... this stuffed quail was a total redemption for that. I actually considered trading my steak away for it. If this special is available when you visit the steakhouse, ORDER IT! You will not be disappointed.
My steak was the Cowboy Coffee Ribeye. It sounded good on the menu, and I opted to add sautéed mushrooms. I began to second-guess my decision to order the steak, because I was thinking it might come smothered in the "coffee" sauce or that the mushrooms would have a sauce of their own and ruin the steak experience. I was wrong!! The coffee sauce came on the side (I actually dumped half of it onto the plate, so it mixed with the juices from the steak, and I got just the right amount of flavor in each piece of steak I sliced off. The mushrooms on top were not saucy at all, just a hint of butter, and I thoroughly enjoyed that and the fact that my steak still tasted like a steak. I would order this again and again. My steak was cooked PERFECTLY!
The Gallagher Ribeye came out looking like grilled gold on a platter, BUT it was unfortunate that the flavor didn't match the aesthetic. The steak was seasoned with salt and pepper and should have been medium rare. The steak was overcooked, and bland in flavor. I was offered a bite to confirm this, and I offered the rest of my Cowboy coffee sauce as a band-aid.
The server had a wonderful personality, but I do feel like he could have checked on us a little more often, and he did forget my son's "after dinner Shirley Temple". WITH THAT SAID-- the restaurant was busy on Christmas Eve, and I think that he was one of only two servers in the restaurant, so I'm not docking stars for that.
