We arrived at this place hoping for a Goan-Portuguese fusion experience, but it was nothing of the sort. We arrived at 7:30pm on a Tuesday and we were the only customers. The proprietor explained that, of the twenty or so items on the menu, he could only make six. Two were vegetarian (and we are not), two were swimming in coconut milk (we both hate coconut milk), one was steak with mustard sauce, and one was chicken with a sausage cooked inside it. My husband really wanted the prawn biryani, but we were told that would be impossible. We thought about leaving, but Lonely Planet had given it such a glowing review that we decided to share the steak with mustard sauce. The proprietor was not happy that we were only ordering one dish, but we were too skeptical to order more than that. For side dishes, we chose plain naan, white rice, and salad. The naan was completely flat and chalky. The consistency was more similar to matzo that any naan we've ever had before. The white rice had no flavor whatsoever. He explained that white rice has no flavor, and that it only takes the flavor of the curry, but the rice we cook at home is delicious by itself. The salad was just lettuce on a plate. The steak arrived on two plates. Both of us recoiled in horror at the amount of mustard sauce. This wasn't steak with mustard sauce; this was mustard sauce with steak! The light color made it look more like veal, but the toughness told us it was quite the opposite. After a few bites, we were too disgusted to continue. We told the proprietor exactly what we thought. Even though his English isn't great, he understood that we were very disappointed. We asked for the bill. Not only did he not offer a discount, he had the audacity to try to overcharge us for the rice and salad! If you are a vegetarian, this may be a decent option for you, but everyone else should stay away from this place.
