Carissa's the Bakery - East Hampton Village

Patrick F.

Google
We visited this popular bakery on September 19th around 10am. Luckily, it wasn’t too busy, and since it was our first time, my partner and I were excited to browse this visually appealing spot. Unfortunately, the gentleman with the moustache didn’t seem to be in a good mood, which made the experience less welcoming than we had hoped. We also wanted to enjoy their beautiful outdoor terrace but discovered that orders must be placed inside, as no table service was offered. On the positive side, the food was beautifully presented, very tasty, and priced in line with East Hampton standards, which we don’t mind, but at that level we also expect a five-star service. Overall, the quality of the food and ambiance were great, but the service fell short. A little more warmth and professionalism would have made this a perfect visit.

Google
Popular spot. Waited about 15 minutes in line. We for the hazelnut croissants and they were fine

Good bakery food. Got the turkey sandwich, chicken bahn mi for breakfast. And also chocolate-pistachio croissant. Enjoyed everything. Also liked our coffees. Good vibe. Dog friendly outdoor seating available too.

The baked goods here are one of a kind and terrific. Wish we had a Carissa’s on the upper west side! The kimchee croissant was everything. Love a good savory treat. Be prepared for a short wait on a weekend morning and for things to sell out. Go early!

Google
The staff seemed very disorganized. I ordered a salad but the avocados were completely black (it must have been made the day before). I also mentioned that I was allergic to nuts, yet they sold me a chocolate chip cookie which most likely contained walnuts (hence I had an allergic reaction).

Google
The arrogance here is palpable. I think the highlight was after waiting in the hot, crowded space.. for 15 minutes. The bread i was waiting for was whisked away for “online orders.” And i was told “sorry we prioritize online orders!” Can someone explain to me why have a physical retail experience if that’s the policy??? This is next level obnoxious. People thing customers in the Hampton’s are entitled … the staff get to elevates that to the next level. At least it does eventually catch up….

Google
3 stars. Carissa’s Bakery delivers a charming, whitewashed, “Brooklyn-y” vibe with an airy indoor space and extensive outdoor seating... perfect for a relaxed Hamptons lunch. The pastries and breads are beautiful and fresh, and their signature sandwiches, like the jambon-beurre with cornichons or creative egg sandwiches, stand out when you can get one. The service is friendly, though sometimes a little inconsistent... especially during lunchtime rushes when lines can snake out the door and seating fills up fast. As popular as the spot is, that popularity comes at a cost: expect slow-moving lines, long waits to order and find a seat, and occasional inefficiencies in how orders are processed. All in all a lovely setting and strong baked goods, but the crowd and the wait dampen the charm… worth it if you’re planning ahead, but be prepared to wait.

Google
Wonderful bakery with unique breads and the best almond croissant I’ve ever had. Excellent “to go” sandwiches. Beautiful cakes & pies (haven’t tried them yet!) Friendly service. Always stop here when in town!

Yelp
I read reviews about the gruff customer service here, and I can see where folks are coming from. The woman at the counter is not the warm presence you would hope to find at a bakery by any means. But I'm willing to overlook that if the food is good, which it was. It's worth noting that this is an extremely tiny location. There's nowhere to sit, and can fit maybe four customers max inside at any given time. There's no seating, so this is very much a grab and go spot. All that aside, this was one of the best croissants I've had in my life. Flaky, airy, with just the right amount of chew. I got a cold brew for $6 that was about 90% ice, so I'd skip that in favor of a coffee shop in town (or honestly even Starbucks) next time around to get more bang for your buck. The premade sandwiches they had out at this spot looked incredible, I'd definitely come back to give them a try.

Yelp
The absolute best egg sandwich around. All the bakery items are beautiful and delicious as well. You can't go wrong. Staff is friendly. Atmosphere is casual.

Yelp
Everything from this bakery was delicious. A must is the ham and cheese croissant and the chocolate chip cookies!

Yelp
SERIOUSLY HORRIBLE BEHAVIOR I don't normally leave reviews, but my experience here was so disappointing I feel compelled to share. The customer service was shockingly rude from the moment I walked in. What made it worse is that the owner, Carissa, was the one who spoke to me so disrespectfully. I had just purchased food to-go, and when I sat down to eat it inside the bakery, I was told--by Carissa herself--that I couldn't eat there. Wait... what? I literally just paid for this food at this bakery, and now I'm being told I can't eat it there? The tone and attitude were completely uncalled for, especially coming from the owner. There was no kindness, no courtesy, just flat-out rude behavior. I will never be coming back. It's one thing to have a policy, but it's another to treat paying customers with zero respect. Extremely disappointed.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream, granola and even fresh bread. All the essentials:-) Visited both locations and found the quality to be excellent and space inviting.

Yelp
The food is pretty good but the manager is beyond rude: there was no room for the four of us to sit down for lunch so we asked for the food to go. By the time it was all ready, a table opened up. As we tried to sit down, she harshly said "you can't sit down! we don't want to have to throw out all that paper! " Be forewarned...there are plenty of other really good places to eat in East Hampton that are happy to have your business.

Yelp
French bakery. Every bread and breakfast rice menu is delicious. In the morning, people line up to buy bread for breakfast. A bakery worth lining up for. In the morning, it is open from 8 o'clock, and there is a breakfast menu, and you can eat it in the store. There is parking, so you can go by car. Please see the photo for the menu. French bakery. Yelp
Place is awesome. Great delicious sandwiches & salads. I'd return again to try the pastries.

Yelp
Carissa's is an amazing place to eat. I came here for breakfast. The ambiance was casual and the service was fast. The food was fresh, delicious, and high quality. I recommend the brussel sprout sandwich, and both the hazelnut and pistachio croissants. The coffee was great too.

Yelp
I was not impressed with the bakery which was suppose to be one of the best in the area. My overall impression was friendly staff, clean, probably a good experience if you could go in and see what your choosing and EXTREMELY over priced for some of the items such as cakes. I think the same cake I bought in Manhattan which is usually high in price would be about 60% of the cost. I was out in the Hamptons and on my way to visit a friend in Amagansett who just called me to stop by as he knew I was in the area. This was a last minute thing and had I known I would have brought pastries from the great bakeries in Brooklyn. I arrived about 45 minutes before closing and should have checked their website before stopping by. Because of COVID-19 they only had pickup and you could not go in. You could see in and they only had two types of cakes to choose from one was a chocolate cake and the other was a cheese cake. I picked the chocolate cake and when I asked the price they said $55 which I thought was crazy for this little cake. It was ok but not great. Well it's the Hamptons so no complaints and then they asked if I wanted to leave a tip for the staff which I hate. I left $5 and it's not the money it's the principle. From reading other reviews and not looking at the website I would imagine their prices are good on colder and breads, everything else might be a bit over the top. I did not like the recent review I read about discrimination and would like to hear the outcome. I would probably not go back although you never know.

Yelp
Stumbled on this little bakery in East Hampton; new to me, NOT to the area. Understandably so. Great, fresh selections. Very friendly, helpful service. Pricey. But worth it.

Yelp
Still working my way though their menu items, but everything we've tried have been delicious! We'll continue to order something different every time we visit. Love their large croissant section - the kimchi croissant is very tasty!

Yelp
We saw Carissa's bakery online instagram. The Sammies looked scrumptious and so we had a box shipped to WA. Oh my goodness! They were divine. Everyone loved them. We are hooked now and will definitely be ordering more. The flavors and textures are masterfully executed. Seriously delicious. I wish we lived closer we would definitely try her other items as well. Highly recommend Carissa's!!!

Yelp
I was so disappointed with the almond croissant I had here. It looked quite beautiful from the outside. The croissant was crisp but the filling was awful. No almond flavor and really so unexpected. I've had better almond croissants from Trader Joe's frozen food section. I was not a happy camper. My dining partner ordered a sandwich which I tried. The jamon was delicious and the bread was excellent. So maybe I just ordered the wrong thing here. My girlfriend (a local) recommended Carissa's and I do love the setting and I would say that the service was fine. Based on my one time experience, I would at least know not to order the almond croissant. With that said, I would be back to try other things because they did look very tasty. Note to pastry chef, please add a little more almond extract to your filling. I would like my almond croissant to taste like almond. Thank you.

Yelp
Kinda impressive, I have to say. We're hard on bakeries because... well just because. We had two stand outs here, a pistachio croissant and a hazelnut croissant. Very, very nice. We're fans of this bakery.
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I came here since we were both in the mood for baked goods and food and had time to spare. There was a line when we walked in, but it moved quickly and the space itself is pretty small. There are a ton of baked goods to choose from, along with sandwiches and salads. My friend and I each got the monkey bread which was not bad, though was also not amazing. We also ended up getting lunch items--she got the roast turkey sandwich and I got the 7 grain salmon bowl and both were very good and filling. I would come back here again the next time I'm in the Hampton's for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
Wish I knew to order ahead here. The line was crazy long and moves pretty slow BUT the food is amazing. They have an outdoor dining area, where after you order, you can sit to eat. You can smell all the delicious bread and pastries from outside where you order. I ordered the bacon and egg sandwich - it had a nice kick to it with the chilis. The bread was delicious. I would absolutely order this again, I love a good breakfast sandwich. I also ordered the almond croissant, and there is clearly a reason that they sell out so quickly. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. If you are on the fence, get one for later.

Yelp
A delicious bakery and wish I could've tried more of their different pastries. I wanted to buy more but I had a flight to catch in a few hours so couldn't buy all that I wanted. I tried their cookies and pastries and they were so good. So much flavor and presentation were so pretty. I had their green tea latte but that however wasn't as good. They also forgot about our order until we asked them about it. Their pastries are definitely a must try but I would pass on the drinks.
google avatar

Mary A.

Yelp
Excellent quality food, definitely the best I had while in the Hamptons. Had the pistachio croissant (beautiful & delicious) & the mergueze sausage (very good and on an amazing brioche bun that is still on my mind ...). Cute outdoor seating and really sweet & helpful staff!!!
google avatar

Jenny D.

Yelp
I went here for the pickle bread, which is what they are best known for. It was however not the experience I was hoping for. First of all, the service was not all that great and felt like I was an imposition by being there. Furthermore, during my visit I noticed that a lot of the kitchen staff, inclusive of someone who appeared to be the manager did not wear a mask or did not appropriately wear a mask so that it covered both their mouth and nose. We grabbed a few items to go, as well as ordering a hot breakfast. Ordered the tacos, and they were a little pricey and incredibly tiny. Not bad as far as taste, but would go elsewhere for tacos next time. Overall a pretty mediocre visit, there are several other spots in the area one could go to.

Yelp
Truly do not understand the bad reviews. This is one of the few Hamptons spots that is legit good and not just a transplant from all the other ny spots that pop up there. The kimchi reuben was spectacular and ingenious. The sabich sandwich is wildly messy but tasty. The fish sandwich is fresh and light. The pastries are terrific.
google avatar

Jin C.

Yelp
The food here is definitely Manhattan prices, so just keep that in mind. But the quality is top notch though, so I didn't mind. As much as I wanted to indulge in their fresh grain and salad bowls, I knew I'd be missing out if I walked away without trying their baked goods. I had their pan bagnat sandwich, which is a tuna sandwich. The bread roll was soft and fluffy, and the salad greens and tuna in it was so fresh and tasted like summer in a bun. Their sabich sandwich was very tasty too; I enjoyed the pesto/amba/whatever sauce was in it. The mixed herb foccacia was interesting too. The lemon tart and chocolate bouchon were very refined and well done.

Stefanie T.

Yelp
All croissants were delicious as ever and a perfect addition for our morning breakfast spread.
google avatar

Yelp
The best pistachio croissant I have ever had. The outside was perfectly flaky and generously loaded with pistachios. The creme inside was delicious as well. We also ordered turkey sandwiches which were fresh and flavorful. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but we expected that in East Hampton.

Yelp
I was so excited to bring my boyfriend here as it was his first trip to East Hampton. They had a wonderful glass case full of delicious looking pastries and sandwiches, but we were not greeted by anyone. In such a small bakery, a simple hello or welcome would have been appreciated. I asked the staff at the register if she had a menu as there was no labeling or pricing of the selections. There was no menu. In short, it felt much like we were an inconvenience and felt no sense of hospitality. The pastries themselves were delicious (a pain au raisin & pain au chocolat with homemade Nutella). Our turkey sandwich was good but overpriced even for the area. It seems other reviewers agree that while the creations are impressive, customer service could be improved.

Yelp
Loved everything about this place - the actual food, the attentive staff, the cute sitting patio! Would eat this whole menu in a heartbeat!!
google avatar

Yelp
Went here 3 times in 1 trip, plentiful seating and it's surprisingly great for lunch food. The salmon bowl is my favorite with my favorite prepared salmon anywhere. Also got olive oil tea cake which was very big portion and good!

Nicole B.

Yelp
Love everything about this place. We had the baguette, Zuppa di Farro, and coffee. All excellent. Great ambience and friendly staff.
google avatar

Chloe L.

Yelp
Great local breakfast spot! Fantastic latte. Breakfast tacos had a good flavor. Busy on Sundays so I reccomend ordering ahead!
google avatar

Amber A.

Yelp
Was visiting friends in the Hamptons for a few weeks and they ordered the special Indian take out dinner last week. Some of the best Indian food I have had ever...and I'm half Indian. Everything tasted so authentic and the spice levels were just right. I went with my friend to pick it up and I wish that was a good experience but the wait was just so long and the man wasn't so nice. But the food made up for it.
google avatar

Yelp
This was an amazing spot when it opened. Carissa slowly built a loyal following in all of us locals-- expanding the delicious, truly professional breads with local, clean (one hoped) ingredients. Boy has the feeling changed. No longer a friendly & fair place. It has become overridden with yoga pants city people and the restaurant now open on Pantigo is even worse! The UNFRIENDLINESS of the staff at the restaurant, the sourpuss expressions and attitudes, makes one wonder WHY Carissa ever went into this business. It is not enough to be a talented baker and cook, one must help their customers feel welcome and supported. SADLY, the restaurant has the feeling of HAMPTONS ULTRA SNOBBERY, which the food and breads can not overcome. WHAT A SHAME.
google avatar

Aarti G.

Yelp
I think this place has a more limited menu right now because of Covid but I thought they still had lots of options. I got a cappuccino which was quite good and my husband got monkey bread. He enjoyed the bread although it wasn't really for me. They had an outside sitting area where you could enjoy your coffee.
google avatar

Tamara W.

Yelp
Love this place, however they do run out of inventory. We tried to come here the first day we came on vaca but they were already out of the lobster rolls. However when we did get the roll, oh my was it amazing... perfection and that ROLL was so delicious! overall, good service and a gorgeous east hampton gem off the main area with all the shops, etc. but they really do lose points for running out of items. which happens all the time. ~T
google avatar

Yelp
The food incredible, staff incredible, will go back forever, favorite place to eat and get breads and pantry supplies for the home, always feel like a welcome guest when we arrive.
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
Easy pickup/takeout during COVID-19! They had spots on the ground labeled to keep everyone 6ft apart and plenty of staff working (I went on a Friday morning) to keep the line moving and minimize crowding. My food (a selection of baked goods) was brought to me almost immediately after ordering. I loved all their croissants- the regular, chocolate, and monkey bread. Stop by next time you're in the area!
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
Carissa's is a solid lunch spot in East Hampton. Their food is generally pretty healthy and fresh. I got the avocado toast with salmon which was a good meal but nothing over the top delicious. For example, it didn't have any extra touches like other shops (e.g., Blue Stone Lane) such as micro greens (I got one tiny piece of a micro green on my toast) and flaky sea salt. I wasn't so much of a fan of the cheese on the avocado toast; it was really creamy and personally I didn't think it complemented the rest of the dish very well so I just removed it. I got their kombucha which is on tap and was very good. I also tried the tuna rice bowl which was solidly good but again, did not have an amazing umami taste. The croissant had really good flavor and good texture, but it could have been a little more flaky. But it's the best croissant I've found out in the Hamptons, so I'll definitely get it again and I want to try other bakery products from Carissa's. There is parking both in the front and the back of the shop. They have separate lines for order ahead and those who are first placing their orders when they arrive. I placed a lunch order today around 12:30pm and was quoted a 30 minute wait, though it ended up being about 40 minutes before it was ready so just be prepared to order in advance of when you want your food. They currently are not allowing people inside their shop, so it is operating solely as a to go shop at the moment. It is a cute and modern set up and as you approach the building, you begin to smell the amazing freshly baked breads.

Ann W.

Yelp
The ambiance is good but only go if you have 30 minutes to wait for a cappuccino. Felt bad for employees but they could not keep up with orders and the wait for simple coffees was insane.

Kate S.

Yelp
Great food and ambiance. Delicious pastries.
google avatar

Kathryn W.

Yelp
This chic bakery is one of the hottest spots in the Hamptons - with good reason. The pies alone are a reason to stop by...they're absolutely beautiful, and delicious as well. I stopped by last weekend to get some goodies for a friendsgiving event and ended up with a gingerbread pie, macaroons and a stout loaf of bread made with local Montauk beer. Everything I had was exceptional. Mallory at the front of the store was not only friendly, but extremely knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations! I will definitely be back to try more of...well, everything.
google avatar

Jeff P.

Yelp
Definitely a lot of dough getting thrown around in here. Spending it and eating it! Not bad

Vivien B.

Yelp
They need to work on their customer service. The older lady, blonde with long hair maybe in her late 40s, she was very rude. Watched how she treated guests and felt she was kind of racist.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Food is great. To bad the staff sucks. Rude- arrogant and obnoxious. Didn't know I was bothering them to have food served. Seriously. Screw this place
google avatar

Anisa A.

Yelp
FIVE STARS FOR PERFECTION. The breakfast sandwich. The bread is amazing, soft with a crunch. (The peppers are a wow.) The monkey bread is the best I will probably ever have - not too sweet and the perfect portion (to share...reluctantly).
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
Rude and unhelpful staff. The girl looked miserable to even be working there. Very limited coffee options. Not worth stopping by
google avatar

Romina R.

Yelp
Iced coffee was really good but I was unimpressed with the baked goods. The baguette was chewy and hard to eat almost seemed old, the pain au chocolate was just ok, monkey bread also just ok. It's cute inside. Overall wouldn't come back maybe just for a coffee

Princeton P.

Yelp
my son asked for a bacon, egg, and cheese without and vegetables they give it to me cold and there are greens on the bottom what kid likes greens on the bottom of a sandwich . It takes forever to get your order I ordered one sandwich and it took my 30 mins to get my food. It's really expensive 4 sandwiches we're 80$. Never having again!!!
google avatar

S A.

Yelp
Typical hamptons hype! Nothing special. Heard all the buzz figured I'd scope it out. Got almond croissant $4 chocolate croissant $4 and a smoked salmon sandwich $13.00 Almond Croissant was ok, what was with the pastry cream in the middle? Oddly sweet and no flavor of almond other than the barely there decorative slivered almonds atop the pastry. Chocolate one was average. To be honest it was a bit dry, no buttery goodness. Now on to the smoked salmon sandwich. 1 slice of their pickle bread cut in half, smeared with cream cheese on one and then a thin layer of cucumbers and another of smoked salmon topped with the other half of the bread. Seriously?!? Half a sandwich for $13?!? The sandwiches were pre made and kept in a non refrigerated case- that has to be a health hazard! The pickle bread was over powering and you didn't get a nice balance from the smoked salty sweetness of the salmon and the cucumbers were soggy and lacking the crunch the sandwich desperately needed.
google avatar

Frances M.

Yelp
I hope their bakery remains good, because the staff couldn't be more rude. Very passive/aggressive and unwilling to help or describe anything.
google avatar

jules f.

Yelp
Very unhelpful customer service when trying to order a cake. The website indicates to call and place an order. However upon calling you are told that you must call day of to place an order. Additionally, the in person the staff is most unhelpful to the point of not wanting business.
