This was the best lagoon beach I have ever been on my many Hawaiian trips. It is a public park, with restrooms, with no fees. Parking spaces seem to be enough for the human load. My wife and I with our 12 and 14 y/o son and daughter went at the end of November, around 10am. (Thanks Giving) Ended up staying all day long. It was a lot of fun. The lagoons had crystal clear water, up to about waist line. Water shoes for feet protection are highly recommended, although the bottom is mostly sandy. Sharp rocks and urchins are present in some part. It was sufficiently warm that we could stay in for hours. There were 2 giant turtles in the lagoons, hanging out, and we could see/examine them really close. (You are not allowed to go closer than 2 meters to them in Hawaii, unless they come to you, which will not happen :)). There was a swing rope, that we used and had a lot of fun. We also explored through the tropical shore forest line, which was unique too. Overall, highly recommended. If the weather is good make it a “no rush through destination” and give yourself sufficient time to explore.

This is a gorgeous beach with calm waters. The springs do bring some cool water from time to time. As the sea water is quite warm, it is a nice relaxing place to swim or just sit. It is such a serene place that sea turtles go there to sleep and relax. The restrooms are a bit dark but very clean, and there is plenty of space at this Beach park for everyone. If you go after 3:00PM, there chances are high for you to meet Aunt B-E-V, as she exercises there everyday! She is a very sweet Hawaiian lady who shares tips about the island and their culture. You can’t miss out the opportunity to hear the stories she tells about the 11 climates of the island!

What a beautiful park with a variety of seating and swimming areas! Shady nooks where you can watch the water lap the shore or waves roll in the distance, or breezy, sunny spots to enjoy the ocean's azure beauty. There's a lifeguard, bathrooms, picnic areas, grass, rocks, sand, turtles, decent parking, and steps with handrails to make it easy to access the water if you want to.

If your looking for a beach this is not the place. But if you want a relaxing time putting your feet in the water and maybe seeing a sea turtle or two, this is the place. Unless you feel comfortable climbing lava rocks into and out of the water. Then you can get into the ocean. It's very nice and popular here.

gorgeous place with nice beaches where you easily could swim with toddlers sinc the waves couldnt get to close. We saw turtles, crabs and tiny fishes - it was amazing!!

This is the most beautiful beach Ive been to. It has several areas with different depths perfect for adults and keiki. This is also the perfect spot to feel like a mermaid.

Recently checked out this area with some friends and so far this was our favourite spot we visited, upon arrival there was plenty of parking at the bigger lot to the west of the area and a short walk over, even though there isn’t much of an actual beach the snorkelling was amazing here, we saw three large turtles along with many other smaller fish, perfect spot to bring a GoPro, would highly recommend checking this spot out if you are in the Hilo area

Public reatroom that is reasonably clean, parking cam be hit or miss. Plenty of areas to sit with outdoor shower to rinse off. For someone who loves the water but dont know how to swim there are safe areas for em to dip in. Spent most of my vacay here.
