Rooms were basic but clean bed was comfy - staff helpful. Plenty of easy parking - couldn't try the duck restaurant on site as already going to dinner. Good value for $$$ and in great location 👏

Look so it's in a great spot, the staff are lovely but my God the rooms were filthy. I saw two rooms the first had toothpaste on the bathroom mirror and sink the shower was still wet and there was about a half of roll of toilet paper, which was on the floor and not on the holder. The second was slightly cleaner, although their were many small hairs in the bathtub and there was someone's very very old makeup still in the bathroom cabinet. Now I know this has nothing to do with the hotel itself but there was a very odd lady walking around and knocking on random hotel rooms demanding they "stop partying and to turn down the volume" even though the hotel was very quiet. I do regret writing this review as the staff were quite accommodating when I brought up the issues and they seemed quite friendly.

I was absolutely disgusted by the state of the bathroom when I stayed in August 2023. I was booked for 3 nights but only stayed one due to the strong cigarette smell in the bathroom. The shower had mouldy grout, tiles were missing and when I closed the shower screen it fell of its rails. I tried to iron a shirt and it blew the fuse to all the power points. I have asked for a refund multiple times but they refuse. Surely there needs to be a certain level of cleanliness even in a 3.5 star hotel??

A bit older but a nice well priced place to stay.

Good location and reasonably priced but there were a few things that could have been better: The presentation of the staff was fairly poor - wearing track pants is not a good look for a hotel business. I was asked to sign for the room with a Sharpie. When we got to the room the swipe card didn’t work, so went back down to get it sorted - didn’t get an apology or anything. We had the same issue after going downstairs to collect our delivered dinner. We then discovered that there was no cutlery or plates in the room, just two mugs and two glasses. The basin in the bathroom had two big cracks in it and there was pink mould around the jets in the spa bath.

We booked 3 rooms for us and a group of friends based on the reviews read here and the photos shown on website! All I can say is you are all on crack! I ended up sleeping in the car as the seat in our car was more comfortable than the bed in our room. It was as hard as rock!! The room was neat but I’m not sure how attentive they were or are based on the fact that the bed felt and could possibly be two base mattresses on-top of each other (?) certainly not worthy of a good nights sleep which is why you book a hotel - to sleep somewhere safe and enjoyable - this is the actual purpose of a hotel room!!! A restful sleep whilst travelling!! I’m appalled at the expectation to pay for this kind of accommodation and with such misleading information on website!! It was actually like a construction site … rubbish everywhere and everything was in disarray… Also.. a shower would have been nice but there was no hot water !! I feel like if you are going to advertise a place that you charge people to stay at.. do not pretend that it is something that it isn’t!! Worst night ever in a hotel room ( didn’t even sleep in it ) and it ruined my night !!

The first thing you should know about the Carlton Hotel is that the staff are amazing. They are friendly and approachable, and when we did have some issues arise, were quick to rectify that. In saying that, this hotel is where you stay for budget accommodation. The rooms are decent enough, but perhaps not as perfectly clean as other hotels. Parking is $10/day, and the location is really good being close to Melbourne Zoo and the tram that leads into the city proper. All in all, I probably wouldn't stay here again, but it was definitely worth what we paid ($160/night for a King & Single room).

Large, clean room, a little dated but still very clean. Terrific location, very quiet, excellent value. Loved the king bed and big TV. Reception still attended at 6.15 pm but didn't have our room key ready. Will definitely return.
