Noted bed not secured on wheels, paint job was done but there appears to be cracks and change of placement throughout (e.g. the bed and the air conditioner). The shower is quite weak if going for hot water.

Let's start with what is good about this business-||||* New carpets in the rooms/hallways||* New furniture in reception||* New beds/linen/TVs/lamps in the rooms||* The location is unsurpassed- walking distance to the Women's hospital AND numerous parks, Brunswicks nightlife and shopping district ||* The carpark is generous ||* The staff are pleasant ||||But then... what's bad?||||* No bins in the bathroom||* Not enough power points in the rooms in convenient locations ( We all have to charge devices these days)||* The pool looked lovely until you realise that in mid-Summer... it's not clean||* Value is poor- I understand tennis is on in Melbourne so the motels are set at a premium... but really? Mid renovations and unfinished rooms... and they feel they can put the price up??That reflects badly on the management of this location because it's opportunistic in all the wrong ways. ||* Rooms are not maintained during your staff- beds were not made when we returned from our day out ||||... and then the ugly! ||||* The water literally wasn't on in the morning... due to the lack of presence of hot water, we had learned to turn the taps on and let it run for a few minutes... but on the second morning here it literally stopped and no water came out for about five minutes. Thinking it was safe once the water returned, I showered, only for it to stop for about 20 seconds mid shower ||* Water for the shower runs hot and cold... literally mid-shower||* Renovations are occurring like other reviewers have noted and there is clutter in the hallways||||It's not a motel that one would return to in a hurry, but if they manage to make good on their renovations and revitalise the outside areas ... it has potential to be something special.

Look so it's in a great spot, the staff are lovely but my God the rooms were filthy. I saw two rooms the first had toothpaste on the bathroom mirror and sink the shower was still wet and there was about a half of roll of toilet paper, which was on the floor and not on the holder. The second was slightly cleaner, although their were many small hairs in the bathtub and there was someone's very very old makeup still in the bathroom cabinet. Now I know this has nothing to do with the hotel itself but there was a very odd lady walking around and knocking on random hotel rooms demanding they "stop partying and to turn down the volume" even though the hotel was very quiet. I do regret writing this review as the staff were quite accommodating when I brought up the issues and they seemed quite friendly.

The star rating (and therefore room rates) for this hotel should be downgraded unless or until the renovations are completed. As other reviews state, there’s good and bad. The “good” is that my room was newly painted, new soft furnishings, clean bed linen and comfy new bed. The “bad” is in mid-winter In cold Melbourne, you can’t get away with having no hot water, or at best luke warm, despite running the tap for 10 minutes each morning of my 3 night stay. Further, there is no breakfast room (supposedly under renovation too). Also, attention to details such as removing rubbish, used bed linen etc from the passages and bins should be done promptly. The bathroom was probably “renovated” but tile grout and corners we’re still grubby, the towels were plentiful but old, yellowed and threadbare (chuck them and buy some fluffy new white or black ones). The coffee mugs still had the evaporated dregs of the previous user’s drink in them! Yuk. But boiling water in the kettle fixed that: but should I have been the one to do that? Overall it’s a disgrace to what it was 5 years ago when I stayed there. Not ever returning which is unfortunate because it is in a great location for university and city access, cafes, and recreational parks, and transport.

Rooms were basic but clean bed was comfy - staff helpful. Plenty of easy parking - couldn't try the duck restaurant on site as already going to dinner. Good value for $$$ and in great location 👏

I was absolutely disgusted by the state of the bathroom when I stayed in August 2023. I was booked for 3 nights but only stayed one due to the strong cigarette smell in the bathroom. The shower had mouldy grout, tiles were missing and when I closed the shower screen it fell of its rails. I tried to iron a shirt and it blew the fuse to all the power points. I have asked for a refund multiple times but they refuse. Surely there needs to be a certain level of cleanliness even in a 3.5 star hotel??

The first thing you should know about the Carlton Hotel is that the staff are amazing. They are friendly and approachable, and when we did have some issues arise, were quick to rectify that. In saying that, this hotel is where you stay for budget accommodation. The rooms are decent enough, but perhaps not as perfectly clean as other hotels. Parking is $10/day, and the location is really good being close to Melbourne Zoo and the tram that leads into the city proper. All in all, I probably wouldn't stay here again, but it was definitely worth what we paid ($160/night for a King & Single room).

Generally one of the worst hotels I have been to. Bathroom is dirty and grimy. There was also hair that wasn't our own. The sheets can't have been cleaned because my partner found a wireless headphone inside of one of the pillowcases. The shower water pressure is terrible and the hot water barely works. The heater in the room does basically nothing as well. However, the location of the hotel is beautiful.
