It's Not Easy Buying Beans, Even in Vanilla-Loving Oaxaca

"I stopped by Carmelita, a bakery whose display cases were lined with birthday cakes, flans, breads and French tarts and éclairs that looked filled with crème anglaise; when I asked whether they use vanilla beans the clerk said they flavor with extract and—after pausing—suggested I check El Pochote for other options." - Jamila Robinson

We just had an amazing dining experience at Carmelita’s! Everything on the menu tastes amazing! You can taste the freshness. From the entrees to the desserts, everything is packed with flavor, and all for a reasonable price. The portion sizes were so generous we were all stuffed and had to bring home left overs. We will definitely be coming back!

I'll be just a little generous here since they're barely open and still getting things moving. I had their carne asada, pollo, and al pastor tacos. The meats were a bit too lightly flavored for my taste but they were still good. The tortillas we're pretty good but they gave you one for taco and I'm usually used to two per taco. Not a huge deal. Their Salsas were pretty good but also a little bit light in flavor and not very spicy to my standards but others may like them. For some this would be a really good place but for me not the best but it can always improve which is why I'll give it five stars for now and check it out again later. Prices were pretty good and the employees were super nice.

The food was not bad. My burrito was laking protein. The 16 year old kid taking my order had no personality. When he asked if I wanted any salsa I said lots of hot please. He gave me 2 little cups. When I got home I realized he gave me hot chili oil. Not salsa! He could have gave me options and communicated like a human! The service in this area of utah is horrible! People around here don't know how to communicate. This place could be great! I hope the service gets better! And they learn how to communicate and ask questions so there customer's get what they want.

A nice little taco restaurant that was a delicious surprise. I went in to try their birria tacos, but they had another dish as their special that day... so good! Unfortunately, I don't remember what I gmhad, but ill definitely consider anything they have on special. The corn tortillas are made on site, and they are great! My wife ordered a smoked and since they weren't busy, they made them right then! (But normally pick up next day)

Don’t go to this place if you want good tacos. They don’t double up their tortillas. The wife ordered a pollo taco, picked it up and the chicken fell through the taco on to the plate. Very little seasoning on their meats.

This is a cute little place. They make the tortillas by hand fresh! It was so delicious! I wish I could have tried everything on the menu. I had the carne asada tacos and they were to die for!

Google
Fantastic food and a fantastic price. Take time to return to enjoy each item on the menu. There's great flavor throughout and it's fresh. The meat offerings are perfectly seasoned, along with good portions. The tacos need more meat on them, but are delicious.

I ordered the chicken Mulita’s and the chicken tacos. Both were really good. A lot of food for the cost. I loved the flavor of the chicken. I was asked if I wanted cilantro and onions which was nice because some places don’t ask. I had green sauce. Little spice which is what I like. Very clean place. I love the decorations. Not too much. Not too little. I will be back to try more options for sure.

Yelp
Very good food, the service was great, we were asked @ least three times if we wanted anything! Back to the food, my better half who normally doesn't eat anyone's nachos but her own, ordered them. She was very happy with how the ones that she ordered turned out! She custom built them for her liking, I have to admit that they were very good! I ordered the steak tacos and they were really tasty! The restaurant was very clean and tidy. We both are going back to this restaurant in the near future. I will let you decide for yourself but I think you will really enjoy this restaurant!!

Yelp
Reasonably new place in the old pizza hut building. Friendly and welcoming staff. Clean and bright seating area. The street tacos are quite good, and they have some good salsas to complement them. The chicken green tamale was a miss, it was small, mushy and fell apart.

Yelp
Thursday evening went in for takeout. It was easy to order and I LOVED the prompt in the restaurant that gives you the definition and photo of what they offer so that you know what you are ordering! The portions of rice and beans could've been more if you ask me (I think they're the cheapest thing to buy and make, why not be generous in those portions). That being said, we bought 2 sides of rice and beans- one of the rice orders felt rancid/expired/old. The other portion was fine and soooo tasty. We got the special -2 tamales w rice and beans. The green chicken tamale was bland. No taste in the masa, but the red tamale was tasty! Overall though, not worth buying tamales here, they're basic and the Rancho market sells them bigger cheaper tastier. The torta was simple but really delicious. I got a mulita which was something I've never ordered before.I thoroughly enjoyed it. Their salsa both green and red are delicious. A nice family restaurant to check out!

Yelp
I can't say enough about this place. The food is amazing. Definitely traditional. Best beans I've ever had. The El Pastore is probably my favorite. Definitely put this on your list. It's a little place in Clearfield. It's the old Pizza Hut. Don't miss out. She also does posole I believe on Tuesdays and on the weekend it's Menudo. Yummy.

Yelp
I was visiting family in UT, and they took me to Carmelita's for lunch. SO GOOD! I loved the clean food. The ingredients were fresh, and everything tasted marvelous! The service was prompt, and the owners (who were the chef and the service folk) were so friendly and informative when we asked questions about the dishes (and so patient). I am known as a "picky eater" in my family, so Carmelita's was the perfect restaurant for me. My family eats at Carmelita's all the time, and I will make it my first stop next trip. I wish that we had a Carmelita's in Western MT!
