Beautiful little children’s book store! They have an abundance of children books to choose from. The store does a good job of highlighting books for upcoming events and holidays. The staff is friendly and helpful! They have a neat reading window. My daughter loved the bean bags and stuffed animals she could sit and read with! This store is just down the street from the Carmichael bookstore so if you and your children love books its a great place to visit!

Google
One of the coolest kids’ bookstores I have been to!!! We loved our time in here. I was impressed by the amount of toys and books they have—there is truly something for everyone. The little reading book window was enjoyed by my daughter and I also. We found so many wonderful products and I loved the amount of classics they had too. Such a variety of products! We’re from out of town and we will definitely stop for a visit any time we are in the area.

Wonderful selection of books and lots of cute gifts!

My seven year old son says his favorite places are Home and Carmichael's Kids. No joke. He loves this place and the friendly staff. Come in and spend your dollars on books and toys at a wonderful, locally-owned bookstore.

Google
My favorite children's bookstore! Not only does it have a great selection of kids books and a super helpful staff, but it also has a big selection of toys, games, puzzles and fun activity sets.

Yelp
One of the best kids bookstores we've ever been to! In fact, probably the only kids-only book store I've been to, now that I'm thinking about it! Adorable little reading nook in the front window, so so many book options, and even gifts in the back. A highlight stop on our tip to Louisville!!

Yelp
The most adorable kids bookstore I've ever been in. The selection is great, and the value is high. I cannot wait for my Grands to be big enough to come along and choose their own books!

Yelp
What a local treasure! I was reminded how much I appreciate Carmichael's Kids during the holiday season. Each time I visited, the staff was able to point me in the right direction. And on one visit in particular, I brought my son, and he was able to pick out a book for his baby sister, starting a new holiday tradition where each kiddo will pick out a book for the other. Carmichael's Kids has a great selection for a wide range of ages and at varying price points, along with some other fun items, games and toys. Plus they gift wrap! Thanks for being such a joy, Carmichael's Kids!

Yelp
Amazing. Independent bookstores are a rare find these days, but one dedicated to children (with the YA and adult books across the street)? What a gem! Excellent selection, friendly staff and space for kids to sit and peruse.

Yelp
What a wonderful selection of kids reading and educational activities / toys. Books are sorted by age and reading level with a wide selection of authors and titles in each section. The staff is hip and friendly, with suggestions among popular books. This is a local chain with an older reader store down Bardstown Rd just across the street (Longest Ave) and another location. In Frankfort. You can also ask for titles and they'll have them available for pickup.

Yelp
Carmichael's Kids is such a great shop! I recently visited to purchase a graduation gift for my little cousin, and I can't believe I waited so long to check this spot out. If you're in the market for any type of gift for kiddos, this is definitely the store to visit! Not only do they have essentially any kids book you could be looking for, they also have lots of other items like toys, arts & crafts items, hands-on educational toys and experiences for kids, and so much more!

Yelp
I am a huge fan of Carmichael's Kids!! It's a neighborhood book store for parents to take their kids. This is a good nook for locals and out of towners, too. I took my brother's family here (children 3 and 5 yo) and they dont live in Louisville. There happened to be story time, which was precious for me to be around. The story time was about 30 mins and definitely check the website for times. The employees there are also very knowledgeable and encourage children to read. And if you're a local looking for presents, great place to pick one up as they have free gift wrapping paper too! Love this store - reminds me of Meg Ryan's character's bookstore from "You've Got Mail". F-O-X!

Yelp
I stopped in on a Friday evening, a flustered child-free person who was to attend a baby shower in 18 hours after having remembered that those are gift-giving events and I was gift-less! I walked in an was just like ".....um.....help...." Very quickly, an employee came over and I told her my dilemma. She asked me if there was a theme or what the parents were in to. I quickly blurted out "Oh! Dragons and unicorns." I was immediately directed to a picture book called "Not Quite a Narwhal." I bought it, with a bit of sticker shock....short children's books and other toys are EXPENSIVE....but I was on a deadline, and they will also gift wrap it for you! I will probably be back here for sure-to-be-future baby showers!

Yelp
I recently found myself in here for a second time to look for a book for our beloved community manager's baby. I found an awesome book about a giraffe. I hope Neil and Emily's baby likes it. People aren't a fan of this viewpoint, but I'm not a huge fan of bookstores. We live in the 21st century. A land where e-books, Kindles, and audiobooks rule the world. I do order books online every now and then. Most recently I had to order two books that would've cost me 50 dollars total... I found them through another bookstore(via Amazon) for 12 bucks. Anyway... on to Carmichael's Kids. While I'm not a huge fan of bookstores, I do like that Carmichael's exists. If a physical copy is what you seek and they have it, why wouldn't you buy it from a local shop rather than waiting on shipping? Carmichael's Kids is no different. It's geared towards children's books. The first time I visited, it was as a tag-along. I liked the initial look-around to see how they do things. This store has everything that you'd want in a kid's section. Children's books. Plush animals. Limited toys. Knick-knacks. The employees are also helpful and they keep the store tidy. The prices also seem to be reasonable. Being in the Highlands in a busy area, I half expected the prices to be inflated a bit. Fortunately, I haven't had that issue yet. The last thing to mention would be the gift wrapping. If you purchase a book, they'll gift wrap it for you free of charge. That's a nice perk. If you're on your way to a baby shower or children's birthday party, this is a must visit.

Yelp
I've had this bookstore bookmarked for awhile now, and my husband, son and I decided to go today to find a few books for our daughter while she was at school. I walked in, and was blown away by how cute this place is! Tons of children's books, puzzles, and arts&crafts items. There's also a small table where children can sit and read. We were looking for a specific book, and were helped right away. Not only is this place cute, and cozy- it's a place I would love to spend time in with both my children. I adore bookstores, so this was an ideal place for me- children oriented, cheerful, and wonderfully maintained. I highly recommend stopping by!

Yelp
I'm a bibliophile to the core. I'm hoping my child has the same admiration for books that I have. So I've started a nice collection of kids books. I wondered into this shop and instantly fell in love ! We were greeted with a warm welcome as soon as we entered. The shop is cute and quant, it felt like a more personal experience than the larger book stores. I wish we had a store like this in my hometown. Overall experience was great!!!!

Yelp
How is it possible that this not-brand-new place only has five reviews?!? Are Louisvillians trying to keep it a secret? or does everybody already know about it? If you know a child, check out this wonderful bookstore. If you've been a child, check out this bookstore. They have piled the shelves high with a wonderful selection of curated books. You'll find all your old favorites as well as books and publishers you've never encountered before. My kiddos favorite part was the sunny book nook in the front window well.

Yelp
This bookstore would have been my favorite place when I was a kiddo! The cozy, welcoming storefront is a hop and a skip down Bardstown Rd from the mothership (Carmichaels) and its shelves are brimming with all sorts of magical things from the latest Olivia book to amazing kits of cut-out figures for classics like Pride & Prejudice and Alice in Wonderland. Carmichael's Kids takes the intimate vibe of its grown-up store and reimagines it here for the infant to elementary school set. The ladies working in the store were a wealth of information on everything from the newest titles to award winners appropriate for certain age groups. They really know their stuff! I love independent bookstores and Carmichael's is a Louisville treasure. This newest addition to the family is like our own Shop Around the Corner from 'You've Got Mail.' Please share the wonder of reading with the kids in your life and do it at this local store. They'll love it (& so will you)!

Yelp
I come here all the time to gets presents for my nephew. They have so much cool stuff to choose from no matter what they're into. The staff is always friendly and happy to help. The best part for me is the gift wrapping. One less thing I have to worry about. Convenient hours and location on Bardstown Rd.

Yelp
Need a book about an elephant for a 1 year old? An empowerment book for a 3 year old girl she could read herself? And need it gift wrapped free and out the door in 10 min or less? This is your place! An expansion from the original Carmichael's Books (whose Bardstown location is very nearby), they do an excellent job of arranging the books by age and type. However, just go in with a general idea and let the extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff (props to Michelle!) help you. I've never been disappointed!

Yelp
The only thing better than an independent bookstore is an independent bookstore filled to the brim with children's books. I'm a bibliophile & a writer, so one of my favorite things to do is visit book shops and libraries. This is one of the very best. The store is organized in such a way as to be both comfortable for adults and accessible for kids. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about children's books, and also passionate. Their faces light up like Christmas trees when they talk about books. Need a recommendation? They'll give you ten. Have a kid? Know a kid? Been a kid? Check out this store!

Yelp
Why didn't they have this when I was a kid? Thank you, J.K. Rowling for making reading cool and fun again and thank you to Carmichaels for having a place just for kid's books! The best thing about this store is the KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF. Many people are passionate about children's books, few are experts. I have my master's degree in teaching reading and I have never asked a question or solicited a suggestion come away disappointed. You don't see that EVERY TIME at a big box store. Despite what Bernie Sanders will tell you, *I* am America's Crabby Jewish Uncle (t) and this is one of my favorite spots to acquire the things I need to spoil my nieces, nephews, God children, and attendant little people in my life. Also, as America's Crabby Jewish Uncle (t) I don't like children who aren't in my retinue so that we have segregated the ankle-biters is fantastic. My mother walks with a cane and the next child who knocks her over will be eaten.

Yelp
This is the perfect bookstore for kids. I took my two nieces and one of my nephews in today and I think their minds were blown. They found books that they had only heard existed. One of the staff members helped get a Cat In The Hat doll off the shelf when my youngest niece started excitedly screaming that she saw it. They all crawled into the bay window seating area and read for a while. There are toys, books, and clothes. I could already tell they were mentally making their birthday and Christmas gift lists ready. This beats any other bookstore in town for kids. Just watching them be so excited and amazed made me happy.

Yelp
I'm overwhelmed with gratitude that my daughter gets to grow up with a bookstore like this one. Carmichael's Kids is a magical little spot on Bardstown Rd. The titles are magical and heavily curated so you can be sure you'll find the best of the best within their shelves. They offer free gift wrapping and helpful advice at the front counter, but the warm & fuzzy feeling permeates the entirety of the store. Honestly I'd live there if I could. Even if you don't have children, go. If you've ever loved to read or had an imagination at all, you'll feel right at home at Carmichael's Kids. Go! Now!

Yelp
This place is a dream come true. By nature, we're library people, but we love buying books for our son's collection on every celebration occasion. The people who work here are passionate about what they do, and always have great recommendations. It's the sort of place you wish existed when you were a child. There's everything from chapter books to picture books to keepsake books and toys....and they freaking gift wrap people! What more do you need!?!

Yelp
Carmichael's Kids is an offshoot of Carmichael's Bookstore, a local independent bookstore a block down from their Bardstown Road location. This is the second time I've been shopping here for presents for my niece, and the staff has always been very friendly and helpful. The bookstore is organized with books more or less according to age, along with a few sections of educational toys. I was particularly impressed with local versions of children's books such as "Say Goodnight Louisville" and solidly built toys and educational activities. If you are looking for a gift for any child from age 0 through their tweens, I'd definitely see what Carmichael's Kids has to offer. Plus you get to support a fantastic local business.

Yelp
COVID-19 experience. I needed some gifts for families who are self-isolating. I was determined to do this via local shops. Food is easy. Something for the entertainment for the elementary aged children can be a bit more challenging. Another Yelper reviewed Carmichael's bookstore, so I thought I would try likewise. I found Carmichael's website a bit difficult to navigate. But I did not give up--I called instead. The Carmichael's bookstore staff directed me to their children's shop. I felt like I had a personal shopper once I explained my situation. She walked the store in the areas I mentioned. If there were additional details on a product, she shared them with me. It was difficult not to actually see the items (the website photos are pretty limited) but we talked through the ones I had considered. After paying over the phone, I decided I would pick them up over the next two days. This pick up system is awesome. You pull up to the shop during their hours, call their phone number, and a staff member brings them to the front door. The store has a small table set in the alcove, protected from the elements, where the staff place the items. I step out of the car and pick up the items. Great job, Carmichael's Kids. I will be back.

Yelp
This store is amazing. Every kids book you ever need to find is here. The staff is genuinely happy and good with children. They had a dog hanging around when I went in there and she was pleasant and never bothered us, it made shopping a very homey experience!
