Small quaint place. We got seated promptly. I got the cashew chicken salad. I didn't care for the dressing. Tasted like plain oil. We also ordered the artichoke soup which had potatoes in it. The server was friendly. The restroom had no t.p. The prices were average.

Google
Busy at lunch, never many for dinner, not much of a selection, small, and loud. *Update: update on the menu, better choices and the best chicken cashew salad in town. Grilled ham n cheese sandwich is also amazing . Bumped it up a couple notches! Very much improved.

Google
What a horrible day. We looked it up on the internet said it closed at 3:00 we walked in at exactly 2:00. We were chased by a women who said sorry we're closed. We said well it's only 2:00. She said well I am locking the door and we are closed. We were pushed out the front door. Lost our service. Will never go back. I had came all the way from the bay area. Unacceptable customer service. Will not be going back.

Google
Overpriced sandwiches and chips that you could easily make at home. Service is alright but not great. Update: this place is right around the corner of my work, so I decided to pay for the overpriced sandwich again. I had exactly one hour. It tool 20 minutes for them just to take our order and then I NEVER received my food after an hour of sitting there. I had to go to the front and tell them to cancel my order because after an hour of waiting I had to get back to work because my lunch break was over. They didn't apologize or seem to care at all. They didn't offer an explanation or apology of any kind. I wasn't rude or give them any reason tp behave this way. Anyway, beware, these people are very rude, slow ans don't appear to care about their customers at all. I will never be back.

Google
The food is overpriced. A club sandwich has 3 layers, not 1. My friend returned her Chai tea, which I believe may have remained on our check (it should have been removed). Unfortunately, I cannot seek a remedy from this business, as they do not answer their phone. I was able to leave a voice mail the first time I called, but that option is no longer available. No one from this establishment has bothered to return my call. As a native New Yorker I am personally offended that an excellent, famous deli such as Carnegie's has had it's name exploited in this manner. I wonder if they're aware? 🤔 Lauren Martin

Google
Service was great. Tomato bisque soup was great....very hot. The tomatoes on my salad tasted funny....like they may not be super fresh.... and I wish I would've ordered ranch instead of the oil and vinegar. Overall its was a nice lunch. 🙂

Google
I called in a to go order and I was there in 15 minutes to pick it up. This is the 2nd time I have ordered in a month. The 1st order was not as good as I remember in the past but today I was thoroughly disappointed. The bread was so thin that when I picked it up it broke in half. The bread was not fresh at all. It was like the bread was left out for hours. The tomato basil soup was just barely warm. I very seldom leave reviews but you guys used to be so good and now not so good. I have recommended your business through my airbnb and I have had guests tell me to take you off the recommended list. I paid 18.51 for a sandwich soup and drink. I don't mind paying that much if the food is great. Please do better for your customers.

Google
Food was very good, unfortunately once I ordered it was over 30 minutes for me to get my soup and 1/2 a sandwich, the only refills I got was when I flagged someone down and they cleared my table when I was done with my food and took 15 min to bring me my check... there were people at only 4 other tables.. I was there an hour and 15 min for a soup and half a sandwich. The people were very nice but dont recommend going on a lunch break when u only have an hour.

Lin R.

Yelp
Called to ask about a downstairs table for a friend on Thursday for Friday lunch. We all met at 11:30 Friday for lunch. They were closed. Many people went up and tried the door. No notice on the window, just not open. How disappointing. She could have told me they were t gonna be open on Friday so we didn't waste time going and then have to find another place for lunch. Bad business.

Yelp
We were so disappointed in this restaurant. My daughter-in-law always raved about it (before COVID). My friend and I both ordered salads that included chicken. The chicken on her salad was undercooked to the point that some of the pieces (about half) were pink/red. She asked the server to take it back and replace it with cooked chicken. The waitress returned a few minutes later with the same salad and pink/red chicken and stated that the cook said the chicken was a roasted chicken from Costco and that it was safe to eat. The chicken on my Caesar salad was also from Costco, but it was the packaged cooked chicken that I buy there, and for the prices of these meals we would have expected something made fresh and not undercooked. The server was nice enough, but how the undercooked chicken issue was handled was enough to make both of us pledge to not return to Carnegie's. Maybe they just didn't recover after having to close during COVID? That was a long time ago now!

Yelp
A good sandwich that was quite over priced. Mainly serves the courthouse. Not really worth going out of your way for it.

Yelp
The lemon scone was phenomenal. As a pastry chef, that's high praise I don't give out often. The oatmilk latte was... okay. I admit to being an espresso snob, so it didn't compete was any craft espresso drink. Not everyone is a trained barrista. If you don't require a craft espresso experience, it was good.

Yelp
Inconsistent recipes, missing items, called to report what I was missing and I couldn't get a word in edgewise. I have supported this local restaurant for years, not sure I'll be back.

Yelp
We love this gem for weekday lunches! Excellent food quality and flavor. I especially love the salads and my husband loves the club sandwich. He never strays from the delicious tomato basil soup (so yummy) while I try and love them all. The service is always super friendly, timely, professional. ** side note: During covid the owner sold her homemade soups and dressings and because of that we learned to grab a pint of her scrumptious blue cheese dressing whenever we can.

Yelp
Food was very good. Had a sandwich with potato salad. Portions were tiny. Great if you are dieting, or watching your weight! Not good if you are hungry or have a "normal" appetite . Waitress was feisty, and bubbling with more bubbles than a freshly opened champagne bottle personality wise. Lunch was $40 something dollars and in no way reflecting value. Would meet here again if a friend wished to. But l know what to expect and would have a very light snack beforehand.

Yelp
Cute little cafe lunch style places that serves soup, sandwich and salads. I got the chicken salad on sweet French with tomato soup. Sandwich was good. Soup was only warm and not my favorite but to each their own. Service was nice and fast. Also there is outdoor seating. Coffee and pastries.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Cool sandwich spot with a quirky kind of retro decor. They have split level indoor seating and tables with umbrellas set up outside as well. Table service is offered which is nice and kind of unusual for a deli. I've had the Reuben and Club Sandwiches, both very good. They also have five or six rotating craft beers on tap, a huge plus. People working there are very friendly. Solid four stars.

Yelp
Great fresh food. Yummy soups. Friendly staff with indoor and outdoor seating. Try their hummus

Yelp
I stopped here for my first time and got a turkey sandwich with tomato soup as my side. The soup was fricken delicious !!! The two women working were both kind. The interior is very unique to say the least.

Tiffany A.

Yelp
Service was a bit slow. My salad was good, but nothing too special. I would go back to try something different.

Yelp
Traveling all day and this was to be my one meal stop. I was so excited to eat here. The website and yelp said they were open. They were not. So let down.

Fatima J.

Yelp
The definition of hidden treasures ! Employees are always super sweet, the food is so good!! I try to eat something different every time I go in and I've never been disappointed. EVERYTHING IS SUPER GOOD and they're so fast.

Yelp
I've been a fan of Carnegie's for years. Loved their salads, soup and bread. Recently, the quality of the food has been on the decline and the cost has been on the rise; a simple lunch for myself and my sons will quickly rise to $40 for some not-so-fancy fare. Today my son and I decided to drop by on one of Redding's all-too-frequent 100 degree days. The interior temps are near 85. When I asked the waiter if he could "cool the restaurant a bit?" he said he "couldn't." Couldn't or wouldn't ? To appease us, he reseated us at table 4--next to 1/2 grimy ac ducts in the building. I ordered a cashew chicken salad on wheat. I received a cashew chicken salad on white. Couldn't the lunch I ordered, either. Priceless? Nah. 1/2 sandwiches for two: $25.76
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
I have gone to Carnegie's since I have moved here--they are my goto place for soups and salads. Oh, yeah they also have good beer on tap plus kombucha! The addition of the Parklet add a lot of outdoor seating, which is key during these crazy COVID times.

Yelp
Too upset to even think about typing a review right now. Don't even know what to say or think. Skip it. Get a Mcmuffin and go about your day.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Not impressed, soup was good, that's about it. We ordered a to-go lunch for our office - 2 sandwich's, 1 salad and 3 "bowls" of soup. Told us it would be ready in 30 minutes. Arrived to pick up after 35 minutes, our order had not been started yet (I was able to see most of the preparations). All online menus are not priced correctly, when you get to the restaurant they do not honor ANY prices they have listed online (prices are almost double at restaurant) and the volume of soup you get is not worth $9. ALL bread for the sandwich's and soup were stale, chips with sandwich are not fresh -very stale out of a Costco size bag-. We ordered mayo on the side -there was a side of mayo BUT also A LOT on the sandwich. I called after we got back to our office and realized the errors and poor quality. I was told all there food is made fresh with fresh ingredients (all meat including the bacon, the bread and sauces are PREPACKAGED). When I brought this up I was told "that it is a risk you take when you get food to go and if you want to bring back one of the sandwich's to be re-made that's ok". No further offer to make right, i would have been happy with a Gift Certificate or partial refund, even an APPOLOGY would have been appreciated. Nothing.

Yelp
This is a great lunch stop as the sandwich and soup was amazing. A co-worker took me here and the restaurant was not what I expected in Redding (but in a good way). I can't wait to go back and try something else.
google avatar

Dan O.

Yelp
This is my favorite spot to get lunch in Redding. I usually get a half-sandwich, potato salad, and a beer. I think their sandwiches are damn near perfect. Piled with tasty fresh ingredients, bread grilled just right, yum! I even like the vegetarian! The atmosphere and service are also wonderful.

Yelp
This cute, small space delivers on its promise of tasty sandwiches, salads and soup. Dished up by the chef/owner, Julie. A Friday afternoon found a handful of regulars saunter in around five to grab a glass of wine or one of the featured brews of the week. A place where they know your name, most definitely. This has been a labor of love for the past 14 years, creating a great place to grab a bite in a " transitional neighborhood " is no easy feat. I would make this a regular haunt if I was closer.

Lindsay S.

Yelp
First time here. Waitress was very rushed even though it really wasn't that busy. Asked her about the club and didn't realize it was grilled. Not a big deal I thought so I asked her if it was possible to make a different sandwich. She said yes and never told me I would be billed for both. A sandwich lunch turned into almost 40 dollar meal. Absolutely ridiculous. When I asked her about it she said it was owners policy. She should have told me she would have charged me for both. So then I asked for the other sandwich back. Not coming back.

Dissatisfied C.

Yelp
I usually do not write negative reviews about restaurants, but this experience being the second at this establishment in the last few months needed to be noted. Another office was kind enough to gift us with a luncheon that they delivered. Unfortunately, not only was the order not complete ( missing turkey, cheese on the sandwich and a drink), the bread was stale, the salads had one slice of cucumber and tomato on each and the soup had a sour taste. We had called and left two separate messages on their answering machine with no return call by the following day. One of our coworkers went down to the restaurant and spoke with one of the employees to which she was told they were in between bakeries ( that's why the bread was limited) and that they were very busy that day. She was then told to call the following morning and to ask for the owner. As recommended, she called in the morning and instead of speaking with the owner, was greeted by the lady she spoke with the previous day. She said the lady once again apologized for the mistakes but had only offered a $6 refund. You would think as a courtesy for the inconvenience, poor food quality and dismissal of the messages left and also stopping by, the order would be corrected. Nope, $6 refund was offered, which she declined. 3 sandwiches with salad/ soup at around $15 each that were made with stale bread, no turkey or cheese and a single slice of tomato and slice of cucumber on each and sour soup that was tossed was more than enough to leave a bad taste in our mouths permanently. As I said this has happened before at Carnegie's and we decided not to address it with the establishment, chalking it up to them having a bad day. So for this being our last food experience here a one star review is being left. The employee was quite polite but an apology and excuses is not what I consider good customer service to try and make the customer whole. The food should have been replaced with quality products and made as ordered. Very disappointing.

Yelp
During Covid we have tried different take out items. The clam chowder was the best i ever had. Tomato basil soup is very cheesy and rich. I bought some of their Asian dressing and used it on my Chinese cabbage salad. It is tasty. Tuna salad and curry chicken salads were good. They have beer on tap so bring your growler and fill it up!
google avatar

Sandy P.

Yelp
The white bean and sausage soup was incredible! I want more, it's going to be a regular for me. They use Funari sausage which is local. I also had a tuna sandwich with capers that was sooo good. It was piled really high with tuna so a lot of good protein and fresh ingredients. And i got it delivered with Door Dash too so that's a great plus to have that flexibility when you want soup on a rainy day
google avatar

Phillip M.

Yelp
Great vibe and great food!!! Will be back for sure. We really enjoyed the environment! Wine and beer are a good selection too!
google avatar

Yelp
Went for lunch and was extremely disappointed. I ordered a chicken pesto salad. They ran out of noodles and instead of telling me they brought out a salad and told me they'd charge half price. I was charged full price. The chicken was scarce and I didn't like the dressing which is up to my palate, I tried to order half a club sandwich it took twenty minutes myself and three more people to get someone to take my order. They brought the check with my sandwich to go. The gave me a full sandwich when I ordered half and charged me full price, again. Poor service here.
google avatar

Trin N.

Yelp
I've been here for lunch many times. All their sandwiches are amazing. Fresh bread hand cut to order. If you're hungry get the full order but half is more than enough. Staff is always smiling and super nice.
google avatar

M. G.

Yelp
Love the tomato basil soup and sandwich combo during the cold months and the salads during the summer! The apple walnut salad is my go-to but their half or whole sandwich options are awesome too. People complain about the price being to high but I say you get what you pay for and I think it's worth it!
google avatar

Laura K.

Yelp
Awesome sandwiches with super fresh vegetables and a quality brewed iced tea. Definitely worth going back again. They have awesome bread which they source locally (I had the wheat).
google avatar

Heather N.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches, salads and soups combined with friendly service and local beers on tap? Yes please. We've been here many times now. Try the hummus sandwich for veggie lovers. It's garlicky and scrumptious with large hunks of cucumber and tomato. Hubby always gets he BLAT-bacon lettuce avocado and tomato. Their tuna comes with capers mixed in; a nice twist on the flavor. Chicken salad is good too. Bread is always fresh and fluffy. Half sandwich and soup or salad is plenty of food, or get a whole sandie and take half home for dinner.

Yelp
I left the office thinking that I'd try out the new Vietnamese place for my 100th Yelp review, but decided I didn't want to go there w/o the ladies. Besides, this is really my 101st review, as Yelp deleted my review of Pio Loco (along with 95% of the other reviews of Pio Loco -- Chef Jeff must have threatened a lawsuit, or maybe to cater a Yelp event). Carnegie's exists, in my mind, so that I can go there for lunch every four months or so and indulge in a mind-blowing Reuben sandwich with potato salad on the side. Today I exercised restraint and ordered just half of a Reuben, and I still felt like a heart attack on wheels when I walked out. I couldn't even go back to work -- I just lurched down the block to Mike's Barber Shop, flopped into the chair, and sat there in a Reuben sandwich coma while he gave me a haircut.
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
After having read the other reviews, I am jealous. You see, I didn't even get to eat. Oh, I sat down. The waitress saw me, but I didn't eat. Why? Because in my ten minutes of waiting, the waitress was busy taking an order from a table by the door, going back to the kitchen, then coming out again to take another order. Time was ticking, but I remained patient. I've worked in restaurants myself, so I know what it's like. A few people came in and found a table, and THEN, in walked this young man (late 20s) and he was dressed business casual. He sat down at the table next to me. And IMMEDIATELY the waitress went over to him and got his drink order. The waitress never even acknowledged me. There I was, jilted. Maybe I wasn't as handsomely dressed as the other guy. Or perhaps he was a favorite customer and I was just a joe. It couldn't have been because she was too busy as there were plenty of open tables and she saw me as I walked in, just like she saw everyone else. I just feel that I was discriminated against.

Yelp
So pleasantly surprised! I've been wanting to try this place for a long time and it was not what I was expecting...in a good way! The place is totally adorable and has a great vibe. Sandwiches are generously portioned and delicious. Great soups and salad also. I had the HALF cashew chicken salad sandwich and it was perfect. I'm not sure if they do this sort of thing, but I was thinking the place is set up perfectly for local musicians and intimate gigs. I wish they were open for dinner too.

Greg R.

Yelp
I have recently started having lunches in this establishment. It makes me sad I didn't start sooner. The sandwiches are fantastic, I can't wait to return and try another one.

Marisa R.

Yelp
Loved this place! Great sandwiches & lovely old town building. Staff super friendly & loves all the old art work/photos. TY Helene for the rec. :)

Patricia P.

Yelp
Four of us went to Carnegies yesterday for lunch. We all agreed that our sandwiches and salads were severely lacking flavor. A big disappointment.
google avatar

Rosanna G.

Yelp
I have always loved the food here. We had planned to eat lunch, but decided to go somewhere else because of the grime and dirt I saw. The menus were dirty and hadn't been wiped, I think. The napkin stand was dirty. The door hadn't been cleaned of fingerprints. Someone almost fell stepping off the step that should be painted to alert people there is a change in walking level. The food is probably still really good, but I didn't feel comfortable eating there.
google avatar

Jaren D.

Yelp
Food wouldn't have come out had I not talked to one of the servers. After I had the conversation it took them 5min to make the food. I ordered right when I sat down. Didn't get my food till about 45 min of my stay. Ordered: roast beef and green peppers sandwich with tomato basil soup. Sandwich was soggy. Soup was excellent! Servers: One guy in particular was either not paying attention or just chose to disregard me. One good thing that happened! I got my check when I was only 2 bites into my sandwich! That was just fantastic! Then when it comes to pay, I placed my card and the little receipt holder on top of the napkin container so it was visible. This server decided to walk by me and pick up the payment of the other table right next to me. I said, well that's fine whatever's. But see I only have 1 hour lunch time. As you probably know, Time is of the essence here. The same dude looks at my table, then decided to go up the stairs and picks up the cards and receipts up there then goes to the register. I decided to walk up to the register and just gave it to him. Another good thing, he says "have a nice day!" That's great! The other waiters were great! Very polite and attentive. Water keeps on getting refilled. They were nice and smiling all the time. Very friendly. But this guy with jeans shorts, and folded up so that we can see a bit of his thighs was just... eh "inexperienced." Atmosphere was great! I like the place. Just have to prepare for longer lunch hours.
google avatar

Olin S.

Yelp
Good soup and sandwich. But the service is slow and if you want your soup first you better confirm it verbally with the server. Because apparently looking them in the face and saying I want my soup first isn't good enough. 4 stars for the food 2 for the service. I will say they did make sure my tea was refilled timely.
google avatar

Lloyd M.

Yelp
We had a wonderfull time at this great little bar! We sat at the main bar area on the high bar stools. There was plenty of regular tables and chairs which might be more comfortable to some people. I prefered sitting at the bar especially in this bar because it is so personable. Our bar tender's name was Julie, She was a great hostess and I enjoyed talking to her and the other patrons. I went with friends and we enjoyed the tomato basil soup which was delicious. I also enjoyed the kale, sausage soup which I think is just the ticket for the winter time chills. The beer selection was great with so many options I cannot list them all here, but there is somthing to satisfy and refresh everyone's palate. For a cozy night out with friends, Carnegie's is great!

Michelle S.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service. The tomato basil soup and club sandwich are very flavorful and delicious. Good sized portions for the half sandwich and soup combo.
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
Dangerously Delicious. One of the best sandwich stops in Redding. The Club is old school style with turkey, bacon, 3 layers of great bread, tomato, lettuce and sauce. If you order a whole sandwich you'll wish you had ordered half and if you order a half sandwich you'll wish you had ordered a whole one. Pastrami = Delicious Soups = Tasty Salads = Fresh with nice dressing choices. Heads up: Service is good but sometimes food can be a little slow. if you're in a hurry call ahead or bring some reading and relax.
google avatar

Billy B.

Yelp
Their club sandwich is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. The service can be a bit slow sometimes, so yeah, call ahead, but I'd recommend taking a book if you're alone or better yet, a buddy to hang with while you're there. There's always a good selection of beers and the tomato basil soup is bomber.
google avatar

J H.

Yelp
It was probably my error but I thought our club sandwich would include more than meat, cheese, & tomato. The sandwich was quite oily too. It was a disappointing lunch.
google avatar

Matteo M.

Yelp
I've enjoyed going to Carnegie's for many years. Consistently scrumptious soups, sandwiches, salads. Healthful fresh ingredients, and hefty portions. The potato salad is my favorite side. The atmosphere is comfortable. Lots of character and natural light. The owner Julie, and wait staff are always lovely.
google avatar

Dean S.

Yelp
My wife and I eat lunch at Carnegies regualrly. Love the food and the service. Fresh food and friendly service!! Beer is cold too...
google avatar

Yelp
Carnegies is one of my favorite places in town to eat at. The food is amazing. Get in early before they run out of Tomato Basil Soup!
google avatar

Yelp
Great service, substantive portions, and delicious food. The bread for the sandwiches was really good.
