Are Cruises All-inclusive? What to Know Before You Book

"A mainstream, value-oriented line that includes core items like accommodations, standard dining and onboard entertainment in the base fare, and then offers a la carte options (for example, beverage packages and Wi‑Fi) or add-ons so passengers can customize how close to an all‑inclusive experience they want to be." - Lauren Dana Ellman Lauren Dana Ellman Lauren Dana Ellman is a New York-based writer and editor who specializes in travel, lifestyle, food, and shopping content. This was our very first cruise, and we had an amazing time! Sailing from the Baltimore port was perfect for us since it’s close to home, and we didn’t need to spend extra on travel. The check-in and check-out process was smooth, well-organized, and stress-free. We had such a great experience and definitely plan to cruise again!

They are organized in the way they board the ship. Very helpful in one on one problems that arise. The building is spotless. I had left a bag at the terminal, and when I came back to claim it, the staff member walked me through and helped me find it. I would be booking out of Baltimore again

OMG NO. Baltimore is Chicago and New York. Mix. I’m still used to GC weather and this is a warning. If you live near Illinois and you not used to it being super cold. PACK BIG COATS AND ANYTHING THICK. YOU WONT REGRET IT. EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO PAY A FEE AT THE AIRPORT. PAY IT ITS GOING TO BE WORTH IT IN THE LONG RUN.(I came in December) when you eat on carnival. Most the food is trash. My taste buds are used to seasoning. I don’t even taste salt or pepper. But the deli is a 9/10. Don’t ever go when kids have to school. They were acting loud and annoying. I know that’s normal but at night it’s worse. I was 17 senior when I went. They need more places for kids. Even kids who don’t talk to people.(like me) but you will need to make friends even as an adult. Or bring a lot of family members or you will be bored and in your room24/7.

Embarkation and debarkation very well organized. Cruise director, Crissi, very approachable, involved with guests and she has a good since of humor. Entertainment was spot on. Staff, waiters, waitresses always willing to help.

Going through port was an easy pleasant experience. The ship was an ok size. How we the food is subpar. I have many allergies and gluten free items were not available in abundance. The gluten free bread they did have for sandwiches is so hard it cut my gums. The gluten free pizza does not taste well. I enjoyed the salad bar but it is not always open. There was no fish in the buffet only as a paid item. Due to the lack of food I decided to eat chicken which I haven’t done in 3 years and ended up sick for days. The entertainment was not very diverse and they up-charge on every single item. The staff were not as friendly and nice as I am use to on other cruise lines. One of my excursions was got cancelled and I was advised until I got off at port and walked to designated area. If I was advised before I left the boat it would have been a smoother process. Overall I wouldn’t go on another carnival cruise.

I'll try to be objective. Speaking with several other families, they love Carnival. That being said, I found it's name appropriate because at times it's a clown show. We checked into our room and there were hairs on the sheets, which was nasty. The ceiling lights on the Carnival Pride have plastic covers that slide open, and my wife and I noticed a dark square inside. I took it out and it was a note that read, "you found this, f___k you." I don't blame Carnival for this, but it's indicative of some of the patrons you'll find cruising. The food was okay, but the lines for some of the food were just ridiculous, making it feel like we were cattle being herded rather than customers to be appreciated. They push jewelry and watch sales HARD, and offer a lot of seminars on why you should buy topaz and such. One seminar had a slide entitled, "The difference between a $100 watch and a $10,000 watch." There are plenty of things to nitpick, but the final one I'll share here is that Carnival pushes sales hard, and part of this is taking constant pictures of you and your family to sell to you later on. They have props on Deck 3 for photo shoots, and my son, who is under 10, picked up a plastic flower sitting on the floor and held it to his chest. My wife, thinking it was cute, pulled out her camera to take a picture and a Carnival employee RUSHED over, blocked my wife's shot, and said, "No photos, no photos," and gently took the flower from my son. Get the hell out of here with that. That one action upset me more than the lines, more than the guy in the room next to me hawking loogies off his balcony, more than cameras everywhere I go. Your margins are so thin that a child can't use a prop? I paid a couple grand for this 7-day cruise and over $340 in compulsory gratuities to your staff. Carnival is obviously a business, but they make it quite conspicuous that profits are their primary objective, without a veil of making you feel valued (besides telling you you're valued while selling you jewelry). My son loved the trip, especially the excursions, and for that reason I gave a second star.

Carnival Glory!!! Great time. More adult parties, bars, casino etc. my teens 13 and 15. 13yr old was bit more shy so just stuck with us walking around or just wanted to hang in room and get room service. 15yrold went to the teen club area made friends and walked around til her curfew. She had more fun. But they both loved to spend our money... I didn't know we could have took on cases of pop or we would have. Pepsi is like 4.25 a can. But it is what it is. We still enjoyed ourselves. The gift shops didn't open til like 5pm which was a bummer for us early morning risers. Like me, my husband, mother in law, and our 2 kids were up everyday by 5/6am so other than go down and get breakfast there wasn't open. Yeah pools were and arcade but no shops. So we were usually bit bored in mornings til later on in day. But other than that still had a blast. Our state room guy was amazing. It's crazy that these workers can remember names for as many guests as they get. But he always had a smile on his face and greeted us every time we passed him. We went to Bimini Island which was smaller than Nassau but we enjoyed the Ocean and sites and shopping there. We would definitely go again but invite other family to go if they can find the money so we have more to hang with and our kids mainly our youngest had her cousins to hang with. But definitely fun.
