"Seize the Cone at Carpe Diem As one of the city’s most notable culinary destinations, it’s no surprise that Carpe Diem Finest Fingerfood has been awarded one Michelin star and two Gault & Millau toques. It’s not just an award-winning restaurant, but also a bar, lounge, and café with outdoor seating among the historic architecture of the famous Getreidegasse. Their unique concept of finger foods served in handmade waffle cones, such as beef tartare or cucumber-mango gazpacho, has proven a success. Cones are available throughout Carpe Diem, though the restaurant itself focuses on a more conventional plated menu of Austrian and international cuisine created by chef and cookbook author Franz Fuiko."

High end contemporary decor with gorgeous wood finishes and a beautiful gourmet menu. Breakfast was scrumptious including very fresh juice, fruit, average bread, yogurts, delicious eggs and waffles. Giant cappuccino, hot chocolates, etc....American style size. Nice ambience but our only complaint was that the people at the door were snooty. Our waiter was good though, making sure to be careful about a peanut allergy. Food didn’t all come together, which was a little annoying. Make sure to reserve a table unless you’d like to sit in the bar area!

Food and service was marvelous. Very pretty presentation and cone concept is interesting. I love the warm bread with wasabi cream, the scallop compliments, beef tartare cone, sashimi ausseerland char and the asparagus dessert. Definitely towards the expensive category but it's worth it.

Has different areas serving different menus: Bar, lounge and award-winning restaurant. FOOD: Ordered: 4-course Menu (€35.50 + €2 cover charge. Drinks not included): × Cauliflower-curry-pineapple soup w/ king prawn • Overpowering and heavy • Strong curry taste like drinking curry sauce - overpowers freshness of prawn ✓ 2 kinds of hamachi, mousse of yuzu, papaya & avocado in a curry cone • Refreshing • Highlights were yuzu mousse and hamachi (fresh, seared and raw). Raw hamachi goes very well with refreshing citriness of yuzu mousse • This place is known for their 'cone' dishes; makes for a different experience but I found the curry-flavored cone didn't positively add to the taste of the papaya 'salad' inside, nor its texture ∆ Small filet steak, artichoke & walnut crust • Only the actual steak was good; juicy and soft. Artichoke dry. Walnuts' taste too strong. Sauce also a little strong and on the salty side. These may suit some tastes though as I generally prefer less salty, and lighter foods ✓ Thai mango tartlet, curd cheese & yuzu ice cream • Light, creamy, refreshing, well-balanced • Real mango taste • Nice thin crunchy biscuit base • Not too sweet INTERIOR & AMBIENCE: Modern, trendy SERVICE: Satisfactory, a little better than the general unfriendly standards experienced in Salzburg and Vienna restaurants and shops. NOTE: Bar on ground floor allows smoking, upper floor is non-smoking, however the smoke spreads upstairs. Unpleasant if you dislike smoke smell.

Great food perfect atmosphere.. Good price for high quality... Perfect to taste Michelin quality without the troubles to dress up... Everyone is welcome... Especially the sweet finish is worth to travel hundred miles...

Google
this place has a bar and a restaurant. The bar offers a finger food menu, which is what we took. They have a bunch of different things. They've got cones. We got the one filled with tartar and potato, really good. They got some fish dishes, which were really good. Cheese, oysters, they really have good variety. We closed with a reindeer steak that was delicious. Service is good, and the price is quite ok for a michelin star restaurant (for the fingerfood part, the restaurant seemed to have higher prices). Can really recommend.

Yelp
We found this great place just walking by the famous street "getreidegasse" . We googled and it appeared to be a finger food, Michelin Restaurant. So of course we stayed. It was a course menu which we enjoyed so much! Yellow gazpacho Beef tartar (it looks like a cone ice cream ;) Cheese course Fillet of beef Black cod Goose liver And beautiful desserts! The service was not the best and it was a little bit pricey.

Yelp
Spent a lovely 2hrs here for an extended lunch of small bites and champagne at the champagne bar on the second floor. "Cones" are creative and very tasty - beef tartare was a favorite. Beware - bottom bar is incredibly smokey and our clothes smelled of smoke for several days even sitting on the level above.

Yelp
Carpe Diem is a one starred Michelin restaurant at the end of the pedestrian zone, near the church and parking lot. From the outside, it looks like a typical bar and patio setup. Tucked away inside and upstairs is their fine dining area. I had the "Salzburg" menu for lunch, since I was stuck in traffic and arrived after the cutoff time for the larger "Carpe Diem" menu. The menu says it is for 2 people, but they will make it for 1 person as well. At the time, I was a little bummed because I wanted more food, but I am glad it turned out that way because I was stuffed. Started out with two amuse bouche items, one with duck, and one with scallops with a mango maracuna (passion fruit/lilikoi) sauce. The scallops paired VERY nicely with the sauce, as I love both mangoes and passion fruit. Next, was the goose liver with kumquat and Brazil nuts. The goose liver was cold/frozen and shaped into small ice cream like scoops and came out with some shave ice type flavors. It made it really easy to eat, but also had to eat it sort of quickly so the shave ice didn't just melt. The candied kumquat skin added a nice tartness to the goose liver. Third, was the black cod, coconut miso, tamarillo, and green asparagus. This was my favorite dish of the set. I had never heard of tamarillo before, but it tasted like papaya. After I looked it up, it is supposed to taste like a mix of passion fruit and tomatoes. Either way, the coconut miso had just enough flavor to complement the fish, but not overpower it. The final dish (before dessert) was veal, cream of spinach, mushrooms and blueberry. I was unsure of what to expect before it arrived, but worked nicely with the tender veal. For dessert, was chocolate, banana, and passion fruit. On the hot day that I dined here, it was perfect to cool off before I headed back out on the road. To top it off, they gave me two chocolate balls to take to go! I am glad that I ended arriving a bit late because I was stuffed. Next time I go to Salzburg, I will make sure to have the "Carpe Diem" menu for dinner and arrive hungry!

Yelp
It was unfortunate that we could not find another place for a late lunch during a day trip in Salzburg. Carpe Diem was something like the 5th choice after calling around to find a restaurant still serving hot food at 3pm on a Saturday. We dined in the ground floor bar as the first floor fine dining restaurant's lunch service had ended. The 'finger food' in the bar were quite creative and neatly presented with pricing to reflect. My main issue with our meal was not the food but the 'service' we received from the main server, a female staff member who was very abrupt, unfriendly and impatient. This server would fit in better working in a fast food outlet rather than a fine dining establishment! Her colleague who brought some of the tapas size dishes was far more pleasant and described each dish being served which is what one normally expects in a restaurant of this standard. Our experience at Carpe Diem was ruined by the unacceptable service received from the main server. The only time this person smiled and spoke in a slightly friendly manner was when bringing the bill, presumably in the hope of receiving extra tips. If there had been service charge shown separately on the bill I would have ensured that this was deducted from the total!

Yelp
This place is really cute and has great drinks. I was not a fan of the food. Our Caesar salad had way too much dressing and the other food we ordered was extremely salty.

André F.

Yelp
The food was delightful and the staff was very accommodating. Be aware that the main floor is a smoking area.

Adrian M.

Yelp
Not sure how a place with a Michelin star can have such bad service. Tried to stop and get some drinks after dinner. The waiter sneered at us and other people because we inconvenienced him with our patronage. We sat ourselves and he came with some menus. We hadn't had a chance to look at them when he came back we asked if he could suggest a schnapps. He became flustered and we tried to look in the menu but their schnapps list was on different menu so it wasn't even something we could have fixed. He got further flustered and got the right menu and basically threw the menu at our table. We left immediately. Life is too short to get bad service from entitled waiters.

Yelp
This once very good bar and restaurant is now PERMANENTLY CLOSED It will reopen under a new name and management.

Yelp
Want to spend 80 euros and leave hungry and unsatisfied? Well then this place is for you!! Nothing even remotely interesting in the dishes, and they all come in tiny ice cream cones that limits your portion to about 3 teaspoons per 8-10 euro taste. I cannot stress how underwhelming this place is versus expectations that the ambiance, prices and reviews create. Staff are ok - not so quick but get it done. Worth a miss - try somewhere a bit less pretentious that might actually have a skilled chef.

JO Z.

Yelp
A "bit" pretentious. Food was ok. Makes sense to eat here if you just want a bite. Nice outdoor patio. Of course everyone smokes inside. The upper level is for non smokers and if you are lucky you may find one lonely person dining there.

Yelp
I'm a definite fan! My husband and I came here after finishing our 7-day hike, as a celebration. You can opt to either stay downstairs and try out the finger foods, or head upstairs to indulge in the fine dining. We opted for the upstairs and chose to treat ourselves to a 5 course tasting menu. It was really fun and super delicious, and this way we got have a nice sampling of many items from their menu. All of the food was scrumptious, but the weakest link for me was the crayfish soup. It was extremely rich and heavy. The venison was awesome. It came with apricots and some sort of mash, and the flavors all went together really well. I also loved the little 'ice cream' things they served....one was a tomato ice cream, on top of tomato chutney, both sitting on top of a parsley flan. Yum! The only reason I'm giving it four stars, is it felt a bit stuffy. I'm not sure if it's because of how we were dressed, or because we didn't have reservations, but the hostess, after greeting us actually made a point of making sure that we knew this was 'fine dining' and suggested we look at a menu before seating us.

Ofra M.

Yelp
Had finger food dishes. Service was terrible - after quickly rushing us with first finger food dishes (i.e., "throwing" them rather than serving them nicely and taking them out of the table though we have not finished testing). Then waiter vanished and we waited for an hour and only after three times requesting from other waiters we received the other dishes that we ordered. Some dishes were good but others even non edible. Beware! Expensive and bad bad service.

Yelp
Sometimes, the whole idea of 'finger food' doesn't suggest a fine-dining experience, but you'll be pleasantly surprised by Carpe Diem. If ever in Salzburg, you MUST simply try what must be one of the finest finger food restaurants in the world. Each dish is presented in a small cone, and every course is an adventure in itself. A new age restaurant like Carpe Diem prides itself on the experimental art of fusing the palettes with a rainbow flavours. It is Molecular Gastronomy at its best While prices may be a little steep (approx EUR 6-9 for a bite size portion - max 2 mouthfuls!), the innovative use of ingredients in each entree is an ingenious work of art. I scarcely remember disliking any of the concoctions, but most certainly recall I fell in love with many of them. To get a faint idea of what to expect from Carpe Diem, I would suggest visiting their website@ www dot finestfingerfood dot com - go to their restaurant page and check out their menu you'll see many of their exquisite courses described in detail. Although some of the gastronomical partnerships sound bizarre, they work - miraculously! I am hard pressed to describe the sensational experience of dining at Carpe Diem, but if you're a lover of molecular gastronomy, and are adventurous when it comes to food.. then it would be a great folly to miss out on Carpe Diem. If I'm ever in Salzburg again, this would definitely be a restaurant at the top of my list to visit!.

Yelp
Unfriendly service and food was okay...overpriced. if you want a snack this is a good place to kick back if you font mind the smoking while your eating.

Yelp
Feels like Asian fusion with pretty and interesting dishes. The beef was super good. Prizy though.

Lisa E.

Yelp
Loved this restaurant!! The small plates are amazing! The nonsmoking area is upstairs.

Luc L.

Yelp
Excellent dinner with friends. We enjoyed a series of very delicate small plates paired with some delicious Austrian wines. What an experience!

Yelp
I was excited to try this restaurant after reading about it. It's true, the founder of Red Bull owns this restaurant but he could do a lot better. I like the idea of finger foods and I am not adverse to paying for quality food. However, this restaurant relies on being a trendsetter without following through. My husband and I each ordered two dishes in cones and almost all of them were forgettable. The sauces were bland and the only good one was a fish dish. I do not recommend the beef/chicken dishes. The food was cold when it came out and you do have to wait quite awhile for these tiny dishes.

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner and the price was reasonable. We did the candlelight tasting menu which did a great job of including some local Ausseerland char ceviche, duck and venison. Compared to other Michelin stared restaurants the service was a little lacking. It was ok up to the end. Then it trailed off. One of the runners did a really good job explaining the food and inspiration. The other not so much. Our waiter picked some good wines to pair with the food but it felt difficult getting him to do this. Even then I felt it was more on what they were told to push then the best pairing. However It was a good choice in wine. At the end our waiter was non existent and didn't say anything when we left. Which felt weird because the service was good all night and he was attentive. I didn't think we did anything to offend him. Maybe he was busy. One of the other waitresses checked us out. She was very nice. Ultimately this is petty stuff. The food was really good, reasonable price and the overall experience was very nice for my wife and I. I would definitely recommend coming here.

Yelp
Whenever visiting Salzburg, i always make time for lunch at Carpe Diem. Not only is the finger food delicious but it's also fun & innovative. Everything is served in flavoured cones! Genius. It is pricey but well worth it. The service is great & the decor is cool & tasteful.

Yelp

Amy E.

Yelp
The food was not the quality we expected. Could not even eat the main course in the tasting menu. Very disappointed.

Jr R.

Yelp
Savories served in a cone. Artistic but not always tasty.

Yelp
I dont usually wax over restaurants-and am curious as to why any food knowledgeable person would disparage this place.great skill with superb ingredients blending of a variety of flavors. Our entire party who are super critical loved the meal
