8 Best Hostels in Budapest in 2025

"Staying at Carpe Noctem Original feels like crashing at a friend’s place — it’s the original party hostel in Budapest and organizes trips out on the town every night. The place is really small but the rooms are nicer and more spacious than other party hostels, kept cleaner with comfier beds and more room; the common area is cozy with a soft couch and handmade bean bag chairs, and the party atmosphere makes it easy to meet people." - Matthew Kepnes

Its a solid hostel, the staff were friendly and helpful, there was free coffee and I didn’t have to pay for a towel which was a pleasant surprise - it did indeed feel like “staying at a mates place” Good quality beds and the bathrooms were regularly cleaned throughout the day. They run events that are solely focused on drinking, nothing wrong with that as it’s marketed as a party hostel, but a daytime city tour or something similar would have been nice. The events are a daily bottomless brunch together with guests from their sister hostel “Vitae” and the hostel also joins the various Budapest nighttime events such as the river booze cruise and party bus. I definitely recommend this hostel to other solo travellers!

Booked a bed here last minute without a full appreciation of its legendary status as a Budapest party hostel, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Even for someone who admittedly would not call themselves a “partier,” Carpe provided a sociable, respectful, and clean place to call home for a few nights. I met some very cool people during my stay, got to experience Budapest’s nightlife, and they even have air conditioning to boot!

One of the worst hostels I’ve stayed in. For €60 a night, it was dirty, the mattress was terrible, and the towel had stains. Staff tried to overcharge me twice and were unprofessional, more focused on flirting than helping. No respect in the dorms—people had sex openly on the first night. The whole place felt uncomfortable and sketchy. I’ve stayed in better, cheaper hostels in Budapest. Not worth it at all. Dont understand the good rating.

Best Hostel Ever! Nothing quite like it in the entire world. Extremely communal that has staff making sure everyone gets involved, from the most outgoing extrovert to the reserved introvert. If you are in Budapest and in the mood for some responsible degeneracy, Carpe Noctem is definitely your go to. Even though I have only stayed for 6 days, it felt like I have made life long friends in that time and will definitely return if I am ever in town again. There are daily activities and family dinner that ranges around 4000-10000 Huf in total which I think you should take full advantage of to get the most out of your stay. Bear in mind to come in with some respect and always be courteous to the staff even though they might be casual and never take their kindness for weakness. With that being said, to my favourite staff, Ramunė : Jūs esate geriausias!

Such a awesome hostel, we were welcomed with open arms by the staff and felt instantly comfortable. All of the organised events were great fun and gave us the opportunity to make some great friends. We love you Carpe!

Great spot. I picked it for location/price and was really only there to sleep (so I didn’t go for the party/communal aspect as much) and it was still a nice stay. Quiet hours were respected, staff cleaned daily, and reception was open late and was super flexible. The people working and running this place are really exceptional and it’s a solid spot if you’re looking to explore and mingle

Fantastic place! Rupert is great. He taught me all I know about having safe sex. He even bought me condoms. 11/10 stay. Great for solo travellers

Aircon is 10/10. Thanks to Rupert for showing us the city and making us feel welcome. The orthopedic mattresses fixed my lumber problems I've had since childhood. Would return as it's cheaper than a physio
