Carpentier Kitchen in Surabaya is one of those spots that just nails the cozy, laid-back vibe. It’s tucked away within a residential estate alongside a few other cafes, giving it a bit of a hidden gem feel. The menu has a nice mix of options (the burgers looked pretty good!) - we just went for coffee (latte and cold brew), fried calamari, and chocolate cake.
Fried calamari with the tartar sauce was pretty solid - the batter was nicely seasoned, and the sauce was very flavourful, with bits of onions and other unknown secret ingredients within.
Chocolate cake was decent, I would have preferred a more moist version, and the cold brew interestingly came with lemon - made for an interesting taste, although it was a bit too bitter for my liking.
The decor feels homey, with a touch of vintage charm that makes you want to settle in for a while. It’s a great place to relax, enjoy a good meal, and even browse around their little boutique section if you're in the mood to shop.
