Nature and Parks in Asheville

"Like the French Broad River Park, Carrier Park includes access to the greenway, river views, and picnic tables. What sets this larger park apart, however, are its sports facilities. With options ranging from roller hockey to lawn bowling, the actively inclined will surely find a sport that suits their taste. Take to the velodrome for cycling or heat things up on the volleyball court." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Close to downtown Asheville. Stopped by but it's closed and under construction. We were able to get to the picnic table side that wasn't under construction. There was porta potties, picnic tables, small grills. As soon as we stepped out of our vehicle someone came and asked if we had money. The kids found a (jigsaw) blade on a table, tires and trash in the water. Unfortunately, no scenic mountain view

I couldn't tell if it was opened or closed. Many of the parking areas were blocked off, and all the sign said closed. But one parking area was open. I parked and ran as far as I could in both directions until the park stopped. The section of paved trails I ran were around 4 miles. Has an interesting loop for bike racing in the middle of it.

Biked from the Hominy Greenway through Riverfront Park toward the RAD. Much of the paved trail is cleared and rideable until you reach Amboy Road. The French Broad River Park section is still unusable, and the trail currently ends under the bridge. To continue on to the RAD, you can cross the bridge and use the hike/bike lanes along Riverside Drive, which provides access despite the trail closure. Hopefully the remaining sections reopen soon—this is such an important and well-loved connector for the community.

it's a very peaceful park. i take my dog here daily, and people are always really sweet when we walk by them. it has outlets under a pavilion, so that's pretty convenient. beautiful scenery too!

The playground itself is great, but getting to it isn't easy or clearly defined. To access it, you have to either find an unlocked/opened gate or enter using the stairs/ramp, as the whole area is fenced off. It's a decent walk from both parking lots, which makes other playgrounds far more convenient with young kids... unless, of course, you plan to run laps while you let your kids play. Sadly, I don't suspect we'll be back with our young kids, but will opt to visit other, more easily accessible playgrounds.

What an amazing Park! I actually just stumbled across it while I was heading to the hospital after getting rear-ended on the highway. On the way back I stopped to check it out. They were tons of people they're doing all kinds of things. They have basketball courts, volleyball, Open Fields and in the middle there was a large circular track that looked something directly out of the Olympics. There were people bike riding, cycling and running. They also had an outdoor hockey rink that the local North Carolina roller derby team I was practicing, which was very cool to watch. Saw people dance roller skating just all kinds of stuff. There was even a little race car Memorial here as well. If I lived in the area I could see me hanging out here every weekend. Then it's based right on the side of a river which just maybe a half a mile down the road was a inner tube and kayak place you could rent to go into the river. Definitely a very cool place!

This is a great park right off of the interstate. The inner track is pretty unique and let's people really push themselves. There are other paths to follow as well outside of the circuit for walkers, skateboards, and roller blades. There is also a playground, basketball court, beach volleyball, and a hockey arena for those who are looking for fun. Great for all ages.

Great walking trails. This has access to a beautiful part of the greenway trail depending what direction you go. Lots of amenities here and plenty of parking. Family friendly and great picnic spots away from the crowds. Really worth checking it out. We just hiked through and stopped for awhile to admire the park while we were on the greenway.
