The sandwiches are amazing. I ordered a Carson Street Ruben and my one regret was not buying 2. The chick behind the bar was cool and helpful. I'll be stopping again next time I'm around.

Google
Solid sandwich shop in Southside. Quality has been consistent over the years. Sandwiches are pretty big for the price and you can also enjoy a craft beer! The roast beef with the horseradish sauce is one of my favorites!

Google
A good, solid sandwich shop. The quality of the meat and the ingredients is definitely quite a bit higher than many of the other local delis and shops. However, the prices are also a little higher than usual, so it balances out. I really like that they have a build your own sandwich option, and that’s what I ordered. I made a sandwich with smoked Turkey and grilled chicken, ranch, provolone cheese, olives, and roasted red peppers all on a French baguette. In terms of quality, definitely quite good. The olives and the peppers both felt fresh. The chicken wasn’t too stringy, although it was a little dry. The Turkey was tasty but it was a tad stringy. Decent meat portions. I would have wanted a bit more ranch as the sandwich was still dry. And the bread was definitely quality but I would have loved it more if it was toasted. All in all, definitely a great sport for sandwiches. A tad expensive but higher in quality. My main criticism is to include more sauce.

Google
Thanks for the delicious veggie pita wrap. And my wife loves her BLT. The food was delicious and well prepared. And the service was quick and friendly. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Google
I have had a lot of Italian sandwiches in my life but by far they have the best! I can’t wait to try more of their menu. They also have lots of different beers and ciders in the fridge so you can try out flavors without having to buy a whole case.

When I visited to Pittsburgh, this place became the must one to go. I need to go more often to try other sandwitches and craft beers, but I am from Japan... 1. Google
I haven't had a sub that good since I left the northeast. Fresh bread, fresh ingredients, great portions. Definitely try their Italian, or their Buffalo. Haven't done dine-in yet but they have a great beer selection from what I saw.

Google
Maybe it isn't the corned beef from 15-20 years ago which was one of the best in Pittsburgh, but it is still delicious. Fresh bread, care with their sandwich making, turkey quality could blast most anyone in Pittsburgh. Nice work. 4 1/2 rating if google allowed it.

Yelp
It's right on Carson, and I'm kind of ashamed to admit I never looked its way before since Mike and Tony's is directly across the street. But boy is this place worth a visit! I got the Mark Cuban sandwich, which was uh-mazing. Lots of meat, lots of mustard, the works. Every sandwich comes with a pickle on the side. They're not bread and butter (good.) They're also not dill, though. I'm not sure what kind of pickle it is, but I want a whole jar of them. Do yourself a favor and give it a try!

Michael S.

Yelp
Sandwiches are bomb. No question about that. Tons of options on the menu so you'll definitely be going back after your first time trying I recommend going with someone else so you can get multiple to try. Also I'm not a mustard guy but The Real New Yorker's New Yorker is by far my favorite on that menu A bunch of us used to go on Monday (I think it was Monday) nights because it was buy one get one half off and would pair up to all try different ones. The cashier with a mustache was kind of a prick but I don't blame him, we were always stoned college kids being idiots in there

Shawn K.

Yelp
A staple in the community and the feel of the South Side when you walk in the door. CSD has so much to offer besides the sandwich, which is spectacular any way you want it. Service and assistance top notch, Beer, well let's get serious, Beer!!!! Plus a true deli....this ain't yo mommas Subway or Panera! It's Authentic, Delicious and should not be missed...I will be back again and again....

Tabreeze M.

Yelp
Just got two sandwiches and they were phenomenal. The people or chill , is a good vibe and nice scenery. The food is very good and fresh will recommend the family and friends.

Jenna F.

Yelp
The food was very good, typical deli nothing to complain about. They had a ton of options to choose from. The service was amazing although the pop machine was out of just about everything. You order at the counter and serve yourself the drinks and chips.

McKenzi D.

Yelp
The food and service were great! They have physical menus and digital menu options to use by scanning a QR code, beer selection is written on the wall. The bread is cut fresh and everything is made to order. They take your order at the bar and then you pay your for bill when you're done eating up at the register.

Ulyana K.

Yelp
Yum!! I love sandwiches, lol. This place was great. They have plenty of beers on tap and the sandwiches are huge. I had the BYO with Turkey, Bacon, Veggies, etc and my partner had The Beast with a side of Jalapeño Mac and Cheese. We both loved everything and the service was super friendly. Definitely super busy as lunch time but worth it. So good!

Brian M.

Yelp
Great deli We arrived around 5:20 on a Thursday. Small crowd and open seating. We got a window seat. Order at the bar and food is brought out. Great food. No French fries though.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Stopped in on a whim for a quick Sunday lunch. Presentation was good, but I feel like the sandwiches and the experience was a bit lackluster. Quality ingredients, but execution could've been better and the food could be more flavorful. I was also confused on the ordering process; you order at the bar, but pay at the register in the back after you're done, and I just feel like that can be a more streamlined process. Seemed like everyone there was also a bit confused on the process... On a plus note, they do have a good beer selection, on tap and cans to go. Overall, I would try again, but I'm not in a huge rush to come back.

Yelp
Great staff! Amazing Sandwiches and cold beer ! This is the spot on Carson ! I would highly recommend this local bar for good food and tunes.

Jensen H.

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches!! I love cold cuts and this knocks jimmy John's out of the park !!

Lauren T.

Yelp
One of, if not *the* best sandwich spot in the burgh. I love visiting in person especially during the summer and hanging out in the courtyard out back. They have a phenomenal menu of the freshest hearty sandwiches, salads and more. They also have a great curated selection of craft beer. Today I ordered to-go and did the "create your own" option with up to 2 proteins. It's the perfect way to get exactly what you want. My vibe today was turkey & pastrami on a French baguette. Love the oil & oregano . My favorite sandwich when I'm not creating my own is The Jay--it's like a classic Italian but with turkey. You really can't go wrong here with anything on the menu. They also have 2-3 soups each day which are delicious. Not pictured here is the minestrone I devoured before this sammy. Highly recommend this spot to any sandwich enthusiast!

Humphrey F.

Yelp
Love their signature reuben sandwich with coleslaw and thousand island dressing and New Yorker with crunchy toasted marble rye! The only suggestion for improvement is that maybe the rye bread of reuben could be toasted as well.

Matthew F.

Yelp
Very very good "gumbolaya". Spicy but not too spicy, filled with shrimp and sausage in each bite, and very flavorful. The music on made for a cool experience. Made the lunch visit...cool. And the employees were all very clean...washing hands several times during our meal. We watched. :) Good experience. We'll be back.

Yelp
I was in the mood to try someplace new. I decided to go with the Carson Street Deli do to its great reviews. The place is interesting looking and is kinda cute. The staff where very friendly and helpful. The place was very busy and packed which is generally a good sign. I ordered a italian sandwich otherwise known as a hoagie. It was good better than some but not the best overall that I have had. They are written up a lot for there rueben and pastrami sandwiches maybe ill try them the next time. I will definitely be back again.

David T.

Yelp
Stopped in for a salad after going for a brief walk at lunch. Got the Buffalo chicken salad and blue cheese dressing. The chicken was great and had a nice but not overwhelming kick to it. Next time I stop by I hope I don't have to go back to work so I don't have to skip a flight of the many beers on tap.

Mike M.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in the city! Staff consistently great and one of the best local draft offerings around. I alternate between the Rueben, build your own, and the small plates happy hour menu (pretzels, charcuterie, bacon flights, etc). As someone who enjoys sampling craft beer, I can try a handful of new ones every 1-2 weeks on a flight as offerings rotate pretty frequently.

Yelp
We stopped by on a Wednesday around 3 and the place was empty. We sat down and decided to order the three little pigs and the classic Italian with a side of hummus. The hummus was excellent, classic plain hummus with pitas. What you expect, so simple but very good. The three little pigs was the star of the show. It was soooo good. The right combination of crispy toasted bread, meat, cheese and all the juicy goodness dripping out with every bite. The classic Italian was ok. I wish it were toasted but it comes with cold deli meat and cheese on a hoagie. I'd probably try something else next time. The service was great and the servers were very friendly. They played great music from the 90s and early 2000s.

See Dee B.

Yelp
Good place for a good Sammich. It's always fresh and tasty. Great beer selection too.

Alex M.

Yelp
Waited in line and the server decided to cut the line off at me. Was there for 10 min waiting to order first. No one behind me and 40 min before the should have closed. Server goes kitchen just said no more orders. I think she was just misunderstanding the kitchen that they were saying I was the last person. But like Forrest Gump said stupid is as stupid does. Made an effort to go just for them. Will not do that again.

Kenna S.

Yelp
My sister recommended this place and suggested what I ended up ordering, the presto pesto. At first I was a little surprised at the price but that was before I opened that baby up. Huge sandwich, and it wasn't only a good portion, it was phenomenal.

Catie F.

Yelp
Stopped by this weekend for the first time and I'm so glad we did! There are so many sandwich options to choose from and you can also make your own. The two sandwiches we ordered to-go were delicious. There was a bit of wait, but they are making the sandwiches fresh when you order so I didn't mind. We didn't get to try any beer, but I really liked the idea of their build-your-own six packs. They have a variety of craft beer on tap and in the coolers. If you are looking for a great sandwich shop, definitely give this place a try!

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Take out review, very good sandwiches and they had everything correct on our order. The sandwiches range from very unique, to PB&J on white bread. Something for everyone.

John M.

Yelp
I was looking for the best Italian hoagie on the Southside. The majority of recommendations were Carson Street Deli. So I went and ordered the Classic Italian. I was really looking for a baked hoagie, but much to my surprise the flavors from the classic Italian made my tastebuds dance. Paired with the 11th hour selections recommended by my amazing bartender, this turned into a delicious, delightful dining experience. I cannot wait to get back to try all the other offerings they have, and of course have that fantastic Classic Italian again.

Sarah M.

Yelp
I got lunch from the deli today and literally couldn't wait to jump online and post this review! Five big happy stars for the deli and its lovely employees. While at first I was hesitant to spend $10 on a sandwich, I'm glad I did - the sandwiches are packed with fresh, delicious ingredients. I absolutely feel like the prices are fair, now that I've experienced this quality. I made my own sandwich with grilled chicken, buffalo mozzarella, and veggies on a pita. The chicken was as juicy as the mozzarella - which is to say very! And the veggies were flavorful. My partner had a classic Italian sandwich. They were out of baguettes so they subbed Italian bread. His sandwich was piled high with meats. We also had a side of potato salad that rivaled the best of any summertime picnic I've experienced. Overall an awesome neighborhood spot! We ordered online because the phone line was busy. There was a bit of a wait once we got there, but the employees made sure we were taken care of ASAP.

Shun-Sho C.

Yelp
It was busy when my party walked in early evening on a Saturday but not loud. The bar tender was great to work with! We ordered two sandwiches, The Beast and the Reuben, as both were local favorite picks for the place. We also ordered a flight, which was a great deal. The meal was freshly prepared and everything was hot and fresh. I'd say we were impressed by the meat (great quality) but the sandwiches, although piled high, overall weren't anything to write home about taste-wise, nor was the beer. The pickles were a nice addition and the food was filling! Good atmosphere and nice place for a quick bite but it probably won't be our go-to spot. I'd give it a solid 3.5.

Spencer S.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking to try a new sandwich place and decided on Carson Street Deli based on the reviews and proximity to work. My wife is pregnant and cannot have cold cut meats. The classic Italian is not normally a toasted sandwich but we put it in the notes to please toast the sandwich with the pregnancy explanation. When my wife picked it up the guy handed her the sandwich and said he had heated the meat by two different methods to ensure it was warmed through for her. We were very grateful to them for reading the order thoroughly and meeting her needs. The sandwich looked great and the meats were plentiful. We shared it and really enjoyed it with the exception of more vinegar that we would have liked. The sandwich was a little on the steep end, though definitely tasty and worth the splurge

Laura C.

Yelp
Easy 5 Stars. Club sandwich is my go to and big enough to share. Great beer selection. Stellar service. Suggest it for anyone in the South Side.

Mary F.

Yelp
This review has nothing to do with the food, though what we saw did look good. We were here specifically for a beer. They had the Platform chocolate almond torte on tap as well as the Platform Holiday Donut Ale. It is pretty small, a few regular tables and three or four high top tables, plus some bar seating. You order at the counter. They had a decent tap list and their prices seem around what you would expect. I didn't order one that night but I noted that they do offer flights which is always a nice option to have. They have a pretty good selection of bottles and cans available to go. We did pick up a bottle of something we were wanting to try. I would say prices are on the high side but may be worth it for a hard to find brew. I can't say I will go out of my way to go here simply because there are so many options around. However I would go back if I see a particular beer being released or if I am nearby.

Stephen F.

Yelp
I really liked this place! I came here the other day and tried their Classic Italian sandwich which I found to be very filling, full of flavor, and doused with just the perfect amount of oil. Additionally, I love banana peppers and I was happy to see that they weren't afraid to lay on the banana peppers and other veggies which really added to the flavor of this sandwich. For the price I wish that this sandwich came with a side as I had to pay extra for a side of potato salad which was a little bit of a bummer. However, I will say that the potato salad is really, really good and you should definitely order this when choosing between sides. Service was meh as I had a couple questions for the waitress about menu items but they seemed pre-occupied by other tasks in the restaurant and didn't really take the time to answer my questions. Stop by here for a great sandwich!

Rosa R.

Yelp
Carson Street Deli was a hidden South Side gem my friend introduced me to! Their menu is packed with different sandwiches and menu options. Not to mention, their beer selection seems to be awesome too! There were so many options of sandwiches, but obviously the one with grilled Buffalo chicken spoke to me first. I ordered the Montezuma's Revenge, which was loaded with peppers,l and cheese. It comes in a pita and looks like a quesadilla. Very delicious! I'd love to come back here and try a different sandwich.

courtney d.

Yelp
don't answer the phone, cut their delivery services off during lunch hours but yet post on social media anything except what the specials of the day are soup etc. used to eat here regularly but it's more of a hassle these days than the time it's worth trying to place an order.

Tiwanda R.

Yelp
The food was decent but the service isn't very good. No one welcomed us or even came over to ask if they could help after sitting for 5 minutes. The place itself is very dim & lifeless

Abby K.

Yelp
Probably hands down one of my favorite sandwich shops in Pittsburgh. The carson street deli has a great selection of different sandwiches. My favorite is the Roma with added hummus. Also if you are looking for good beer not only do they have a bar they also have a case of a fantastic variety of craft beer that tends to change. They have a few shelf's of local PA beer. The staff is always great. They're friendly and helpful! During covid you can order online. The ordering and pick up is easy and fast! This is a great local spot if you want a delicious sandwich and good beer.

Natalie H.

Yelp
Yes...yes... and more yes! I recentlet moved to PGH from NJ/NYC & we were craving Pastrami sandwiches and so gave Carson St Deli a try. It was so amazing!!!!! The food, the craft beer selection, the location, the people! I am so excited to have found this deli! I came here with my very critical & picky mother & she, too, was obsessed. She was raving about it for days.

Cass B.

Yelp
4.5 stars if I could give it. This used to be my go-to spot for drinks before shows at the Rex Theater due to their typically wonderful beer selection. Now that the Rex is out of business, I find myself on the Southside pretty rarely. At work, we order takeout sandwiches from here maybe once a month. The sandwiches are very good. I had the Dizzy Lizzy (chicken salad type wrap) last time we ordered. It was great. Nice and light, but still a ton of flavor. Their sandwiches are good, but not otherworldly. This is what holds them back from 5 stars in my book. If this establishment was somewhere else besides Carson St., I'd probably make it in more often.

Hannah G.

Yelp
Great place! Great sandwiches and good deals! Highly recommend if you are in Southside and want a good meal. Whether you make your own or chose from the list you can't go wrong. Everything seems to be the highest quality of ingredients. The atmosphere is really cool here too. Lots of beer and drink options. Flights are $7 which is a great deal. Good happy hour too! Definitely a place worth coming back to! Make sure to come in store to see there weekly deals because they aren't online!

Rose R.

Yelp
Disappointed. Is the deli under new ownership? My whole order today was terrible. The egg salad sandwich appears to have been made with 90% mustard. The chicken salad tasted sour and the macaroni salad also tasted like 90% mustard. Oh yes, and they forgot my drink. Last time, I will be ordering there, sadly

Cydney K.

Yelp
I came in here for lunch today and had a great experience. The staff were very knowledgeable about all the beers they had and the food was excellent. I did the create your own sandwich which has a variety of meats, cheese, bread and vegetable options. I ended up with a tuna sandwich with pepper cheese and all the usual toppings. The bread was super fresh and the tuna was great not overly mayonaisey like they can be. My boyfriend opted to order from their signature sandwiches and got the three little pigs. It was one of the best sandwiches he's ever had. I also got their black bean soup which changes daily. I highly recommend trying whatever they have on special. Overall a great lunch a will definitely be back in the next few weeks for another lunch.

Pete J.

Yelp
Nice local craft beer selection on tap. Decent size selection of cans and bottles as well. This is my second visit and I'm not disappointed. Great sandwiches. We ordered today sides of potato salad and macaroni salad. They were ok, not phenomenal. I seriously recommend this place however for happy hour. Great specials, especially the charcuterie plate. Just awesome. I have 4 stars instead of 5 today for no charcuterie today and the ok sides. Great little spot that you all should try. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about beer as well, so that's a big plus.

Joe C.

Yelp
I travel for work. At least I did pre-COVID, and my go to sandwich when I want a safely satisfying meal on the road is a turkey club. The Carson street deli is my holy land. I make a pilgrimage here...literally just for the turkey club. Crispy bacon, fresh spongy bread, packed with turkey and cheese. I'm telling you, this place is a legit as it comes. The atmosphere is combo bar and deli, which I've really never seen and appreciate. Large selection of bottled drinks and chips. 10/10 will dream about again.

Alexa S.

Yelp
Hands down, some of the tastiest sandwiches I've had in Pittsburgh so far. They have a nice little patio in the back that's tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Carson Street. They have a great selection of sandwiches, sides, and beers! I always get the potato salad and would definitely recommend you do too if you're ordering from the deli. I'm looking forward to trying out their meat and cheese boards, but haven't had the chance yet, so stay tuned!

PJ B.

Yelp
Where to begin.... excellent sandwiches made with high quality ingredients. Probably a little pricier than a typical sandwich shop but completely worth it. Beer selection is second to non - I have out of town beer enthusiasts who researched the beer scene on their own and came up with Carson st deli. Great place for a flight or grab and go six pack

InThisMoment Y.

Yelp
This is truly a great spot, clean, friendly, food is hit it out of the park good, Try the New York pastrami and if you're lucky the gumbo soup! This is my new weekly destination in Pittsburgh, great craft beer selection too

Julia S.

Yelp
Thanks to fellow Yelpers, I was able to make the right choice and get the Donnie Brasco sandwich. I must admit I was a bit hesitant because egg salad and buffalo chicken together doesn't make sense, but when I took my first bite I was blown away. The bread is fresh, soft and slightly crunchy on the crust. Veggies are fresh and crisp not limp. The pickle spear is a nice add on to give it a lil bite. Service is great. The guys and gals there were helpful and cheerful. Dude was the 'stash was super nice and provided great service. Beer selection is ridiculous. Hey have beer flights which I would try next time when it's not work hours. Flight of 4 for $7. Good deal I say. Parking just is well... It's Carson. Nuff said. But has not bearing on the deli itself. Bon appetit!

Joe L.

Yelp
My wife and I live in California and we were visiting friends who took us here. Great call, guys! This is the kind of place that I wish I could drive to, let alone walk to. We decided to dine in the outdoor beer garden. We shared the Veggie Burger and the Veggie Deluxe. The Burger was hearty and one of the best black bean burgers I've ever had. I was skeptical of the Deluxe seeing that it contained both hummus and baba ghanouj, but it turned out to be a perfect combination. The draft beer selection kicked ass. There were even a couple of cask-conditioned beers. Welcome to the 'burgh! We returned a few days later because of the bottled beer selection. We grabbed a few to take home that are unavailable where we live. Fortunately, the cashier suggested that we get six so that we would be eligible for the discount. We even got a loaf of free bread that turned out to be really good. I could get used to this! How did I get to be the Duke? I am a benevolent leader, but I believe the title belongs with a local. Come to Carson Street Deli, Pittsburghers! Craft beer and delicious sandwiches. What more do you need? I shall definitely return the next time I'm in your fair city.

Remy L.

Yelp
I go here every week and the customer service and food I just had today was the worst I've had. I don't know what is going on with this place but they completely left things off my sandwich didn't include things .. so I just ate a dry sandwich with Turkey cheese onion and bacon. When I called to address it they said is that it.. and then hung up on me

Karolyn A.

Yelp
I was surprised by the broad selection of inventive sandwiches here. The Dizzy Lizzy, with its curried chicken, dried cranberries, and amazing slaw is my solid go-to, but everything I've tried is fantastic. Also, let me sing the praises of their extensive beer selection. A wide variety of well chosen craft beers awaits, and the seasonal offering is simply spot-on. For the purveyor of perfectly crafted sandwiches, this stop is a must-try.
