Cartesiano

"How did it strike you on arrival? This gorgeous property is located inside an old ceramics factory in the heart of Puebla's old town, set between brightly painted colonial homes and storefronts. Beautifully restored into a luxury hotel, the Cartesiano does a brilliant job of fusing old and new, knowing exactly where to preserve and where to introduce modern features—the annex, which has whole walls impressed with colorful, hand painted ceramic tiles that were produced from the century-old factory, visible from the roof top pool, is a great example. There's also an indoor/outdoor vibe throughout: The main building and 19th century annex are connected by an large outdoor walkway filled with plants and paved with old ceramic tiles. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Puebla isn't on any kind of hip circuit just yet (it will be soon, trust me), but it's easy to see the rooftop bar at the Cartesiano buzzing with linen clad, sun kissed well-to-do Mexicans and Americans wanting to tack on a city break to their beach flop holiday elsewhere in the country. It's perfect for those who want to do Mexico in a long weekend, too; unlike Mexico City, this town can be conquered easily in three days. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.My room had a neutral palette with lots of stone and fine linens. I would have preferred that all products were local and artisan, in keeping with the hotel's history as a ceramics factory (and who doesn't want their Mexican hotel room filled with local crafts?) but over all, they did a lovely job. The rooms are clean and modern with an emphasis on materials. Room service: Worth it?This town is home to mole poblano, and though you can order it from any place in town with a stove top, the chef's sampler here is pretty tasty. But don't eat in your room! Get up to the rooftop dining area! Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?The gentleman who oversees their marketing was phenomenal. He is a local Poblano and you could just sense how immensely proud he was of his city. He insisted on walking me all over town and pointing out his favorite shops and vendors, and while I normally prefer to go explore on my own, he was welcome company and an excellent guide. A wonderful ambassador for the hotel—and for Puebla. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The rooftop bar was lovely, and the bartender was one of the few in town who really grasped modern mixology (he could do mean things with mezcal and pretty much any fruit laying around). The restaurant was genuinely tasty, but you don't want to sacrifice the wonderful, rustic mole houses all over Puebla. That said, it's a solid choice for your first night if you have just arrived and don't want to go back out. The pool and gym, meanwhile, are on the roof and have excellent views. Bottom line: worth it, and why?The Cartesiano is one of those rare properties whose opening will make a destination hot, not the other way around. This place firmly understands its hometown's artisanal legacy and honors it through its smart and considered preservation of the old ceramics factory it occupies. Plus, it has the best address in town: right at the doorstep of the excellent Las Sapos Flea Market (yep, bring an empty suitcase with you)." - Erin Florio

This hotel is wonderful in many ways! The building is beautiful and as soon as you get in everything is tastefully designed Hotel staff are friendly, professional, helpful. Our room was not ready when we arrived but they organised for us to have tea / coffee by the swimming pool while our room was ready. The bedrooms are exquisite, bed was the most comfortable and chilling in the room or all communal areas was.very relaxing The activities the hotel offers are holistic and healing. Food is delicious. Very central and easy to go around. When I left the hotel they called me me to let me know l had forgotten my headphones. Sadly I was on way to airport and could not return. They organised to send them to me. I would stay there over and over again. Cartesino team and hotel I miss you!

Great Hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We were there for a big destination wedding and the Cartesiano was perfect for our family and friend. The Location to the historic area of Puebla was perfect. Walking distance to the colorful streets and restaurants in the area. The hotel restaurant were also delicious and the entire vibe was relaxing. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Very beautiful hotel. The rooms were scented with selected scents that we could choose ourselves. Nice pool where you can get a variety of drinks. The hotel recommended us a restaurant during our stay which was really great. They have really great costumer service.

Be very careful before booking this hotel! They will make you sign a four page release document upon check in and much to our surprise after we checked out they sent us a whatsapp message 2 hours later saying that we broke the shower door! They just outright said this was our fault and we had to pay for it ($611.00!!!) for something we did not do!||This could have been a mistake made by the cleaning team after the check out and they didn't even send us the photo of the door was requested.||BE CAREFUL! I am contesting this charge with AMEX and will pursue legal action if required to resolve this and prevent from happening to to other travelers!

Wonderful hotel! Beautiful architecture. It’s a hotel dedicated to wellness, and they do a great job.|My husband stayed there couple months ago and had a wonderful yoga session with Karen Lozano, the session was so great that he decided to bring his group of friends to have the same experience. Unfortunately they didn’t have the number of rooms to accommodate us all; but we were still able to organize a class with Karen (sound healing) and it was amazing!!!|The rooms are beautiful, super comfortable, and they offer free aromatherapy.|The restaurant has a wonderful variety of healthy choices.|My only recommendation is that they should let the guest know about their free classes at check in, I found out too late that I had that option.

If I can give this hotel a 12/10 rating, I would! This is the best vacation hotel I have stayed at. Convenient location, right next to zocalo of Puebla, with many historical sites within walkable distances.||Excellent food and service! We paid common dish price for food of fine dining quality. The Thai spa is something. Would definitely come back if we can!

We loved our two night stay at Cartesiano in Puebla. The hotel is in a perfect location to explore the old part of Puebla, and there are many good restaurants and bars nearby. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and quiet and the hotel feels like a calm oasis. We had good breakfasts and also one excellent dinner in the Salon Mezcalli. All staff members were very helpful and attentive. I highly recommend both a visit to Puebla and also a stay at the Cartesiano Boutique and Wellness Hotel.

Yelp
This has been an amazing experience in Puebla. From the staff to the experiences (laberinto, spa, restaurante, librería, etc.) to the amenities to the proximity of everything Puebla, this place is amazing and welcoming and charming. Can not find enough words to say how incredible this hotel is. From Karen to Gilberto to Alfredo to many more warm friendly staff. I only wish I remembered everyone's names. Thank you!

Yelp
The good: it is a beautiful hotel, an almost authentic wellness program and except for one inept experience manager all the staff seem wonderful, on the surface. If you go for a weekend you are going to love it. My first trip was for two weeks. It was so wonderful, I went back three months later for their 30-day bespoke program. The bad: the hotel is void of leadership. The inter-department communication is ineffective and non-existent. The most competent staff person.... The wellness director who wasn't there when I was there, and considered a friend, told me to leave, knowing his colleagues couldn't deliver the goods on a $17k program at the hotel. In every other part of the world, the money for the week would have been fully refunded. In Mexico, apparently it is OK to promise the 'world', deliver on nothing and then blame the guest having bad energy, no matter how pampered the guest wouldn't be happy. The director of the hotel, and his wife who runs the restaurant which in a week got only two meals right out of over 20 on a specialized diet have yet to contact me. When I found out one of the wellness staff was the daughter apparently it was a faux pas to asker her to have her parents contact me. Now that it is partnering with NH hotels it can only get worse.

Yelp
This really is more of a 4.5 star hotel but that's not an option. I recently stayed for a weekend and had the following feelings. Pros: -Located near tons of restaurants and bars, as well as sights near the zocalo (center) of Puebla, easy Uber ride to Cholula -Great breakfast options included in the rate (pass on the bagels though if you're from somewhere where bagels are good like New York for me) -Nice rooftop pool area, as well as shaded outdoor eating/drinking area -Gym....that i meant to use but mezcal -Extremely comfortable bedding, spacious room and bathroom Cons: -Lighting around full length mirror and child height makeup mirror with no pivot ability, I'm sure a man designed these rooms -Small service gaps for a luxury hotel that are things that are easily rectified. For instance, between my first night and second night the espresso pods were not refilled as I'm accustomed to at other luxury properties. There appeared to be many people working by the pool area but it took a while to get the attention of them and a LONG time to get one singular drink (over a half hour), which is bad service/bad business.

Yelp
The best hotel in Puebla. The beautiful atmosphere inside is captivating and the staff puts time into every detail. The food and drinks were incredible on site, with a gorgeous pool and calming spa. On our first day, the staff Welcomed is at our cab and grabbed our things from us and directed us to the lobby. We were then greeted cordially with refreshing chocolate and cinnamon drinks for our entire family of four. We were given all the details of the location and some wonderful tips on what to explore in the city. The staff took us to our room where we a chef had artistically decorated a plate of sweets to welcome us on our stay. The next afternoon after exploring the city we returned to check out the pool. We enjoyed a variety of hand made cocktails, local beers, and fresh juices. Our children feel in love with the pool, it is absolutely perfect for small kids as the depth is not too much. Breakfast the following day was impeccable, and again the service was outstanding. Our children ate pancakes and eggs while my husband and I enjoyed Enchiladas and juevos ranchero- a must try! The team made us mimosas and espressos and fresh strawberry banana smoothies for our littles. We spent the early morning and afternoon walking through the city, visiting the Catedral Puebla, El Calle de los Sapos (flea market right around the corner) and enjoying a tour of the city on a bus. When we returned to the hotel, we went back to the deck for some drinks and signed up for a massage. Within 40 minutes we were enjoying a gentle and soothing massage, complete with rainforest music, aroma therapy, and two pools (did not get a chance to go in, forgot bathing suit!) The team was excellent, I couldn't have asked for a better experience here. This was my mother in laws first massage and the team was patient and gentle the whole way through. The next day we enjoyed a quaint breakfast in the cafeteria under the lobby area. The kids loved this area and within minutes of us sitting down the server changed the television to a nice cartoon to ensure their enjoyment. Our food was delicious, the coffee was exquisitely sweet. We returned later to the gift shop on this floor to explore some of the local pottery of Puebla. On our final day, we had a marvelous meal at the restaurant, the sasahmi appetizer was incredible!! I settled on the the mole poblanos for my final meal in Puebla and needless to say, I choice correctly. My husband immediately begged to switch plates with me, as this mole was heaven on earth. (His meal was very tasty too, but mine was the clear winner!) We had our server take some photos of us with the Catedral in the background and we settled in for the night. Every detail, every aspect of this hotel was thoughtful and mesmerizing. I don't think I could visit Puebla again without staying here, my heart is filled with memories of its beauty and phenomenal staff.
