Carton Paris

Carton Coffee is one of my regular stops every time I’m in Paris. I always make time to grab a coffee, a croissant, or their hot chocolate—especially because the location is super convenient near Gare du Nord. It’s perfect for a quick stop before catching a train, and sometimes we even walk there in the morning from our hotel for breakfast. The coffee is decent, and the croissant is fine but not particularly special. It’s a bit too flaky for my taste (not terrible, just not my favorite), and I’ve definitely had better croissants elsewhere in Paris. The real standout for me is their hot chocolate—it’s genuinely delicious and the one thing I keep coming back for. That said, my last visit was disappointing because of the service. The staff that day (all women) were chatting and laughing a lot while serving customers, and it honestly felt a bit disrespectful. Whether they were laughing at me or not isn’t even the point—it just didn’t feel professional. Verdict: Bakery is okay (not the best despite the croissant awards), coffee is average, hot chocolate is amazing… but the service really needs improvement.

One of the more disappointing croissants on this trip. Was expecting a lot given they won best croissant in Paris in 2022, but I found the croissant to be rather flavorless and not too crispy on the outside. The inside was quite flaky though which was nice. We also got a chocolate pave which was extremely greasy, and a pistachio roulade which was rather dry and didn’t have a lot of pistachio flavor at all.

Do you believe in awards 🎖️? You know, when you go to a shop or a restaurant and you see a sign that says "The best something in 2024"...? I don't, cause I believe the only shops that can win an award are the ones who... participate in these contests. 😅 Yet, an award usually means quality above average. 😇 One morning in Paris 🇫🇷, we were supposed to go to a specific place to have breakfast before starting our activities but I had to lose 30 minutes (literal) fighting with the ticket machines at the train 🚆 station and we didn't have enough time left to reach that place. I was so pissed. 😡 Fortunately, when we got off the train, I spotted a bakery with lots of awards: best croissant in Paris 🗼 in 2022 and 2024 amongst others. 🥳 So we stopped there and I tried the croissant 🥐 and the pain au chocolat. I don't know if these are the best ones in Paris but they were really good (even though they didn't look so great) and not too expensive for an elite croissant nowadays in Paris (around €1.5). 👏 I had to try the classics, but the shop offers lots of other tempting options. My son did try a cookie croissant (you have to be a kid to order something like this) and that I did not like at all. 🙁 The place offers sitting inside and outside, which is great, but with no AC, which was unfortunate as the weather was so hot! 🥵 The clerks were very nice and attentive. 🙏 A good experience overall. . . . Quality & taste: 9/10 Quantities: 8/10 Atmosphere: 5/10 Originality: 8/10 Ratio price / quality: 9/10 Service: 10/10 How I felt afterwards: 9/10

(reviewed on May 2025) stellar macarons, good pastries. a bit pricey, but that’s understandable considering the location. do note that they’re sneaky with the macaron pricing, leaving them in a display with a cheaper pricing despite the macarons themselves being more expensive. we got tricked but hey, the macarons are good.

Fantastic place that was always busy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great selection of fresh food, the croissants and macarons were amazing, and reasonably priced. defintely worth a visit if you are nearby

Such a great discovery! Very quick and efficient service despite the long queue. Delicious products, whether it’s the sandwiches, croque monsieur or desserts. Would highly recommend.

Loved loved loved this place! Best crossaints I've ever had in Paris! If you are in Paris you need to go here! Great spot and nice staff and food was so fresh and some of the best looking and tasting crossaints I've ever had!

Nice little bakery near Gare du Nord, lots of choice if pastries and sandwiches. Lots tourist stopped over before getting on trains. Service is good and friendly, coffee is pretty good too, but I don't think this shop is any better than other in Paris, somehow it is very popular via social media and maybe due to its location near the train station?
