The Reinvention of Birmingham, Alabama

"The Carver Theater for the Performing Arts and Jazz Hall of Fame is Birmingham’s only remaining black theater. It will debut as a performance space and reopen its adjoining museum in 2019."

Great performance! Unfortunately nowhere to eat after 7pm on a Friday night unless you walk or drive blocks away. Make sure to eat first! 😅 Theater was clean and spotless with plenty of spacing! Staffing was very polite, including the guy guarding the entrance. I would love to come back for the museum and tours. I look forward to more performances and shows here!

We had a great time at the Edgar Allen Poe speakeasy event! This was our first time to the venue. The seats were comfortable. Parking was easy. The performance and drinks were awesome!

Brilliant performance! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I highly recommend this event to all ages over 21 that have ever been captivated by Poe. The festive cocktails and humor added a sense of welcoming.

Actors & actresses worked their butts off to deliver a fun and entertaining experience. They served the drinks, picked up the drinks after each act and worked the door upon entering and exiting . Well worth the $! Our show was sold out!

Fantastic performances and delicious handcrafted drinks. If you like gothic or macabre stories this is for you. It is one of the best date nights I’ve had!

Went there to see Purple Kiss, the venue was very intimate and it was amazing to see them so close!! Staff were very friendly, and I hope they can do more kpop concerts in the future if possible. (Parking was down the road, so we had to walk. I would say that was the only downside to the venue.)

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised at how intimate this venue was for a somewhat large group. The lobby area was great as a reception area for an event. Large enough for different food and drink stations, along with a cocktail section if needed. I appreciated the comfortable theater seating. The sound system was great fro speakers, artistry, music and movies. The stage was large enough to host a play, band or exhibit. Hope to go back for other events. The venue hosted a screening of the documentary #Descendant currently shown on Netflix. Thank you Birmingham's Sierra Club for informing us on our Alabama and National history.

Yelp
I really love the Carver Theater and love its rich history. So many great musicians and artists have performed at this venue over the years. The Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame has a notable exhibit area that's worth checking out. In addition, the theater has numerous creative and artistic events throughout the year. I have attended the dynamic Onstage at the Carver monthly event that showcases amazing spoken word artists, singers, and a multitude of performers since my freshmen year of college. It is definitely a Birmingham treasure that everyone should check out!
