8 Hotels That Are Much Less Expensive Than You'd Think - AFAR

"A boho-glam conversion of a former olive mill set in the Tramuntana hills between Sóller and Deia; built of stone with heavy wooden beams and shabby-chic fixtures, the property sits amid orange and lemon groves, offers immediate hiking from the door, a pool for cooling off, and a scenic, rustic-luxe atmosphere (famously hosting a celebrity birthday)." - Mark Ellwood

Ca's Xorc, near Soller, Mallorca - Explore & Book

"Located between Deia and Soller on Mallorca's rugged northwest coast, this former olive mill has become a chic and discreetly glamorous small hotel. The feel of style oozes from every corner - perhaps passed on by the touch of its sparkling young staff. The look is shabby-chic, blending Mallorquin with a hint of Moroccan. You'll lap up sensational mountain views from the veranda, while sipping your drink to the sound of rustling olive groves and sheep bells tinkling in the wind. The food is delicious and the dining areas imaginative - lots of hideaways and a Moroccan-style tent for parties (lots of weddings are held here). This place is and has been good enough for premier rock stars and A-listers (Mick Jagger and Claudia Schiffer are both fans). But ordinary mortals love it too. Go walking along quiet mountain trails, lie by the pool and sun-soak, find a quiet corner to chill out and help yourself to books from the library. Highs Cool interior design - this is definitely one of the island's most stylish small hotels The beautiful grounds, dotted with bougainvillea, hibiscus, marguerites, lavender, olive and lemon trees and aromatic herbsThe Deluxe Rooms with Terraces - ask for #8, which is up in the attic with stunning views and plenty of privacyThe whole atmosphere feels special, helped by the hotel's small size and friendly staff - you are very well looked after Lows A car is essential to reach beaches, shops and nightlife (there's no bar or lounge for after-dinner drinks). Be warned, the drive up is a bit hairy; big cars won't get round those dusty hairpins, and your SatNav may not work Some don't like the old-fashioned style in the rooms, and cheaper rooms feel a bit small and darkSome past guests feel it is overpriced, but others say it is worth every euro. Mixed reports of service, tooIt's always full, so book earlyAdults only and no extra beds" - Nikki Tinto

This is by far one of the best hotels we’ve stayed at. Ever. I don’t normally write reviews but had to because of how wonderful this place and the staff were. 1. Get the breakfast included in your stay - it’s worth it. The ala carte egg menu is fantastic and the smaller buffet style by the kitchen is fresh and delicious. 2. We stayed in one of their garden cottages vs. the traditional room. It was a perfect getaway for us (a couple), with a beautiful terrace where you can be greeted by the animals on property. 3. The staff is incredibly helpful and kind - and made this experience 10 times better. 4. The entire property is beautiful, breakfast with a view, pool with a view, and the sunsets were incredible. I’ve already recommended this hotel to all my friends and family, and hope to be back again soon!

Truly incredible and unforgettable view. I spent multiple days just sitting at the pool and staring out at the mountains trying to take the whole view in. The room we had booked was cute and thoughtfully designed - a little more on the rustic side, but still clean and fresh inside. The hotel is full of various picturesque lounge spaces that are all meticulously designed and fun to hang out in. The drive up to the hotel is notably difficult. Parking is incredibly hard, with there being a daily struggle to maneuver in the tight spaces there. I am knocking one star off for the location portion of my review because of the difficulty of the road going up to the hotel and the parking options for guests. The other concern I had was the amount of wasps at the restaurant. We chose to eat breakfast indoors because the wasps were unbearable in the morning. They using coffee grounds to deter them, but they also place ham on a plate at the edge of the seating area to try to get them to concentrate to one area. The downside to this is that you’re just reinforcing the problem. This ham is also the same ham they use for breakfast, which we learned the hard way after more than 10 wasps quickly swarmed my husband’s plate. For next season, they should put some mock hives across the property and use other more effective methods for pest control. Bee sting allergies seem to be common in my family, and I didn’t want to potentially have a medical emergency out in a difficult area to reach. Outside of these two issues, the experience was great and truly something I will remember for the rest of my life. If I come back to Mallorca in the near future, I would strongly consider coming back here for part of my trip.

We spent two nights here as part of our honeymoon, and it was truly the highlight of our entire trip. The property is stunning, offering countless peaceful and private spots to unwind while taking in the breathtaking views. The staff were exceptionally kind and welcoming, making us feel right at home. We booked a massage with Abbie and it was hands down the best we’ve ever had. An unforgettable experience all around.

we knew we had found something magical. Nestled in the stunning Mallorcan hills, this venue isn’t just beautiful – it’s breathtaking. Every corner of the property is like a scene from a romantic film, with lush gardens, panoramic views of the Tramuntana mountains, and that perfect golden light that makes everything feel surreal.|From our very first visit with Clara, we knew Cas Xorc was where we wanted to get married. Even with less than a year’s notice, the team made it happen – and not just happen, but exceed every possible expectation.|The Cas Xorc team – Clara, Carina, and Neus – were simply phenomenal. Their communication was prompt, clear, and always reassuring. They recommended exceptional vendors who delivered flawless results, and they worked tirelessly to bring our vision to life. From start to finish, they provided nothing short of 10-star service, not just for us, but for every single guest who joined us throughout our stay.|Then there’s Barretes – and the incredible David & Team, who went above and beyond at every turn. Our wedding taster menu was an experience in itself – we were absolutely spoiled with exquisite food and expertly paired wines. The communication from David was outstanding, and on the day, he and the entire team delivered a dining experience that was world-class. The staff were so attentive and seamless that they blended into the celebration – it felt like magic. I’d turn around to speak to a guest, and somehow, my empty glass would be full again.|We honestly can’t thank every single person at Cas Xorc and Barretes enough – from management and wedding planning, to the housekeeping, spa, restaurant, and even security. Every detail was flawless. Our wedding was everything we dreamed of – and more. The venue, the setting, the food, the service… absolutely unforgettable.|Our guests haven’t stopped talking about it – the location, the atmosphere, and the food (which truly was to die for).|Cas Xorc gave us the most perfect experience of our lives. Thanks to all the staff (2 gentleman who helped with our luggage) and the friendly ladies at the breakfast service and front desk! We loved every second of staying at this resort, even the fun steep narrow drive up to the hotel ;) Will definitely be back!

We had a lovely stay at Ca’s Xorc. The room was very nice and cozy, and we were pleasantly surprised to have a fireplace in the room, which unfortunately we didn’t have time to use. The kitchen staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good but didn’t vary at all, which got a bit repetitive after a few days. The hotel’s location offers an excellent view. And lemon garden is extremely beautiful. Just be aware that the road leading to the hotel is very narrow and winding, so a small car and confident driving skills are very recommended. Overall, it was a very nice experience.

Everything was absolutely amazing! Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Room cleaning service was superb! Views are just to die for. My only complaint was the barely warm jacuzzi. I asked staff to see if they could increase the temperature, but claimed it was at maximum capacity. Other than that, highly recommended

Ca's Xorc has breathtakingly beautiful views, you are surrounded by mountains and there are views all the way down to the sea. Their hotel grounds are gorgeous, there are several outside spaces with seating areas, all take advantage of the lovely views. There is an infinity pool and a hot tub.|The breakfast was one of the best I have had, with freshly baked warm pastries and several freshly baked loaves every day. |This is a fabulous retreat away from the crowds, the track up to it is not for the faint hearted. You are definitely better with the smallest car you can manage with to negotiate the many sharp bends, but it is absolutely worth it when you get there.|Highly recommended.
