Casa 69 San José

We had a great stay at Casa 69. The location is perfectly situated between downtown and Barrio Escalante on a quiet back street, with about a 10 mins walk to either. The room was really spacious and comfortable. We arranged an airport transfer with the hotel at $30. Winston and his staff really look after their guests and cook a delicious breakfast. The hotel is quite close to a train track and you do hear the trains however all the positives make up for this.

We had a wonderful one-night stay at Hotel Casa 69 in San José. This is not a generic hotel. It’s a beautiful old Spanish colonial–style house with two peaceful courtyards that immediately make it feel calm and special. There’s also a rooftop deck where you can take in views of the city.|The hotel was spotless, thoughtfully decorated, and perfectly located just a three-minute walk from the National Museum, making it ideal for our last night before an early flight. You’re greeted by an old, friendly dog on arrival, and the whole place truly feels family-run rather than corporate.|Winston, our host, was incredibly warm and helpful, and he cooked us an excellent traditional Costa Rican breakfast in the morning.|One note for travelers: the immediate area is a bit gritty right now, so use normal city awareness, especially later at night. That said, the hotel is next to the Nicaraguan Embassy and there is major redevelopment underway, including a new pedestrian shopping area that looks close to completion and clearly signals positive change.|We walked to Mercado Central for dinner at a local "soda" counter and finished the evening with sorbet from the oldest sorbetería in the country. It was the perfect final night in Costa Rica.|Highly recommended if you value character, cleanliness, and a genuinely welcoming, human-scale place to stay in San José.

We loved Casa 69. We stayed there three times during our recent trip to Costa Rica. The staff was wonderful. They prepared an early breakfast when we had an early departure and had helpful suggestions on visiting San José. The breakfast area and patio have a lovely tropical vibe. Breakfasts include a selection of tropical fruits as well as eggs and toast. The rooms are clean and uniquely decorated. The hotel is within walking distance of the city center. We had the hotel taxi driver Walter meet us at the airport upon arrival and take us to the airport for departure. The staff recommended a delicious Peruvian restaurant, La Valicha, around the corner. We would definitely stay there again.

A very nice place to stay in San José. Owner is a nice man and the crew and himself served a very good breakfast in a highly positive atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place to visit. Price to value is very good. Some room improvement suggestion: inconvenient shower holder and mold on the shower curtain in the bathroom due to limited ventilation. Bed was hard but ok. Thank you for hosting us! ♥️

Lovely hotel. Restored older building beautifully done. Good location. Very pleasant hosts. Huge breakfast. Good value.||Room was fine. WiFi fine. Everything good and would have been a straight 5* if not for the 5am tram wake call. From 5am the trams pass close to the hotel sounding their horns liberally. Things in our room rattled when they passed. So suits early birds.||Also, be aware that Kurt has a very friendly dog so if you aren't a dog lover, look elsewhere.

Very cute Their greatest strength is the staff who were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious. Our room was just off the lobby, and a little oddly laid out - but it was the last available room, so the others were probably better The location was good, we walked to the center, and to the Barrio Escalante.

Stayed here for one night before heading to the airport, and wish we could've stayed longer! Our room was very comfortable and quiet. I'm not sure what the other reviews mean about the noise; please don't let this put you off, we slept very comfortably. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Breakfast is served in a lovely little courtyard, freshly cooked eggs and gallo pinto, with fruit, coffee, juice etc. Great value, fantastic location with lots of bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk. We wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Wonderful small hotel. The staff and owners are super friendly and helpful. They also make an amazing breakfast for you. It’s located in the California neighborhood. There are just a few bars/restaurants nearby but it’s a very short walk down to where the museums and main waking/shopping streets are.
