Casa Aliso is where I spent my downtime in Quito - I’d already passed several busy days visiting museums and other sites in the Centro Histórico, followed by a week of intense birding with yet another week of intense birding to come. So I was looking for tranquility, and this beautifully-restored mansion in the laid-back La Floresta neighborhood was perfect for that. ||||Period details were accented by modern art in the hotel’s common areas; I especially appreciated the gorgeous breakfast room and multiple reading/sitting areas scattered about the main floor. Staff were friendly and helpful. My room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfasts, with eggs made to order, were excellent. ||||The surrounding neighborhood was great for strolling and cafe-sitting, and puts you an easy walk from restaurants, including several of Quito’s best (URKO and Quitu). The beautiful and moving Casa Museo Trude Sojka is just a couple of blocks away. ||||That said, the location isn’t particularly convenient to the historic center, so may not be ideal for first-time or time-limited visitors. It was perfect for me, though!
