Located around the city center of Quito, we were able to explore the city on foot and by public transport. This hotel is rather quaint but pleasant. On our first night we were greeted with a food platter, fruits and a bottle of wine, which came as a nice surprise for our honeymoon with our arrival being quite late. There are restaurants and a small super market within walking distance, making this a very convenient stay. Lenin was helpful with organising transport and making us feel welcome. The kitchen can be used to wash up your dishes and other equipment, and the lounge can be used to eat take-away dinner. Breakfast was simple but included bread, a choice of eggs and fruit.

First and foremost, I am the type of person who sees a review with only one previous comment and am skeptical. I have a pervious TripAdvisor account that I can no longer log into, so don’t be deterred by not having any “clout.” My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights post 7 days trekking/climbing in the mountains. Although we are American and our Spanish is sub-par, the gentleman at the front desk was so kind and understanding our lack of the local language. He made us reservations for a taxi, made us a great breakfast and could not have been more hospitable. The last evening there, we met the owner who came back from the Amazon and let us help ourselves to local Amazon bananas! Such a nice touch! Comfy beds, local decor and close to an amazing Sunday market. Tons of delicious local restaurants nearby too! Recommend staying here in La Mariscal over Old Town any day! Thanks so much for a great stay!!!

I stayed here for several nights during my recent trip to Ecuador. Claus and Jessie were the most welcoming hosts. They made me feel right at home and kept me well fed! Because of covid, things were relatively quiet during my stay, but everyone at the hotel wore masks and observed social distancing. They made sure that guests were separated during meal times as well. Everything was clean, and I felt very safe here. Thank you guys for a wonderful stay :)

We were booked in here for x2 nights as part of a trek booked through Much Better Adventures. It was great, Sol was a fantasic host giving us lots of top tips for places to visit and places to eat in the local area. Would definitely come back. Thank you.

I stayed four nights with a group two years ago. Claus and the staff were warm, welcoming, and helpful. Our room was fine: comfortable beds, opening windows, and hot showers. Common areas were inviting; there is a guest kitchen and a laundry drying area. One can buy fruits and vegetables across the street and get one’s clothes washed three blocks away. On a bus route and a short walk to the tourist districts.

If you’ve stayed in a hostel you should have certain expectations, this hostel exceeds what is typical. The beds fantastic, not a squeak to be heard or a spring to be felt. The orientation of the hostel is very unique with small staircases running everywhere to private little areas shared by only a few rooms creating a private experience for you to make what you’d like of it. For breakfast just put in your order the night before and it appears in the morning warm and delicious. Claus, one of the owners, made an effort to be available every morning to give us tips and ideas of places to see, he helped is book tours in the jungle hikes to volcanoes. All in all the hostel really speaks to the traveler who wants it all. I could go on but really this is a place you should experience for yourself. 5stars all day.

Casa Helbling is made great by the accommodating people who run the place. We arrived late at night without a reservation and we're taken care immediately. On multiple occasions coffee was offered gratis. They serve breakfast which smelled delicious and is served in a cute courtyard. They offer laundry and a well stocked kitchen for patron use as well as a terrace and lounge with plenty of books. We only stayed one night because of time constraints but it's location just outside of the Mariscal Sucre make this spot a well placed, well run, quiet option for a moderate price!

We stayed 5 nights here and were very pleased. It is simple, clean, interestingly decorated with bright colors and many masks on the walls, a tree growing through the roof in the front room, a fire in the fireplace at night...The people who own the hostel and others who work here are helpful with all of your traveler needs and they all speak English. The owner also speaks German, as that is his native country. They serve breakfast in the morning (extra charge)and offer wine and beer at night. The only negatives, which were minor: I could have used a bit better lighting in our room, and wish that the old plumbing would allow one to flush one's toilet paper- instead you must deposit it in a little bin. Not much hot water for the shower, and our bathroom sink was so small with a large shelf over it that I couldn't get my face over it to use it for brushing my teeth or washing my face without a washcloth. But despite these small things, I really enjoyed Casa Helbling- cheap, friendly, very clean, and has a very genuine local feel. Oh, and they have a laundry room you may use for a fee.
