Casa Anamaria Hotel, Nr Girona, Spain - Explore & Book

"Situated deep in the Catalan countryside, framed by the Pyrenees mountain range, this honey-coloured patrician villa appears like a mirage as you approach via a dusty driveway, past acres of green. A dramatic fountain at the entrance sets the tone for an opulent stay. Inside the main hotel, 16 contemporary-style rooms are spread across two floors; there’s also a central courtyard and a spa. But it doesn't end there. Steps away is Villa Maria, offering more traditional country-style rooms within the original 14th-century farmhouse building, while neighbouring Villa Ana features a modern studio and a family room. Vintage ornaments are peppered throughout all three buildings, courtesy of the French owner, Olivier Mitterand (nephew of ex-president, François). A stay at Casa Anamaria Hotel is the perfect antidote to busy urban life: birdsong was the soundtrack to our days here, and perfectly manicured gardens feature plenty of shaded nooks to sit and relax in; it's impossible not to take in the tranquillity of it all. With a pool, tennis court, restaurant and 22,000sqm of gardens, it’s tempting not to leave the hotel - and many guests don’t - though medieval towns, the Costa Brava’s prettiest coves and world-famous cycle routes are a strong pull. You're among Catalonia's greatest treasures here but you're safely tucked away from the crowds. Highs All the green space: over 60 acres of gardens, woods and fields, plus pine and oak trees lining a shimmering saltwater pool Option of booking the spa for private 1-hour sessions - and i-escape guests get 50% offStaff are as friendly as they are helpful: you feel very welcome hereThe fine-dining restaurant, which serves Catalan dishes with a modern twist and veggies grown in the gardenThe location near Costa Brava beaches, medieval towns and Salvador Dali hotspots Lows The restaurant doesn’t feature light, inexpensive options, though the pool bar does (open in summer only). The nearest alternatives are a 20-minute drive away (not so easy with young kids)You’ll need a car – or a bike – to get here and explore the surrounding areaRooms in the villas have a different look and feel to the main hotel rooms - no less attractive, but more rusticThis area is known for the Tramuntana wind, so you get higher than average windy days" - Clemmy Manzo

We rented the hotel for our May wedding. It could not have been more perfect. From the moment we arrived to the time we left, we had an excellent experience. The whole team - from the reception team to the housekeeping crew, the kitchen and bar staff, management and the event coordinator were simply outstanding. The property is spectacular and extremely well maintained. The rooms are beautiful and the beds are very comfortable. The food is outstanding. Breakfast is great and every item on the menu is excellent. The bar staff (which we kept busy…) was attentive and outstanding. I could go on for hours - but I certainly recommend this as a place for an event or as a chill and gorgeous getaway. Thank you to the whole team for making our wedding such an amazing experience. We will never forget it and are so very grateful. With lots of love from Canada! Isabelle & Uwe

Nice hotel with a split architecture, the main building is in a French style with a terrace and atrium while the rest of the accommodation is in the converted original farmhouse. Spacious grounds and a well kept garden with nice areas to sit.||The service is excellent though some of the staff are more helpful and cheerful than others. Special mention for Angela who gave us the most pleasant breakfast. ||The food is good, with some interesting dishes. There is a lot of choice on the carte but if like us you stay a week, you might struggle. As you would expect in Spain, dinner is at 8pm , breakfast at 8.30, but they are not always ready by then.||If you come in the summer, the swimming pool is impressive with plenty of seating and umbrellas.

I was unsure whether or not to leave a review as Casa Anamaria and the staff were so wonderful, and we had such a brilliant and relaxing stay, that I'd sort of like to keep it a secret. But that's selfish of me and not fair - the hotel deserves to be visited - the buildings and grounds are stunning and beautifully maintained - gorgeous countryside and such peace and quiet. The pool is just lovely - I never wanted to get out. The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and well-appointed. And Mariona and her team were fantastic from start to finish - very welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, and the food and wine is excellent. Highly recommended for a restful stay in amazing surroundings. We will return for sure.

A big thank you to the whole staff for making our holiday memorable! In all domains this is an outstanding hotel. Beautiful room, good bedding, lovely food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not to forget the calm atmosphere, and yet close to attractive cities and villages. Sure to return soon!

My stay at the Casa Anamaria Hotel was the most enjoyable vacation I think I ever had. The grounds are stunningly beautiful, the staff outstandingly friendly without any exception and the food absolutely delicious. The manager Mariona showed us the hotel garden where they grow their vegetables and you can feel that everything is done with love and care. The traditional Catalan stone architecture hosts beautiful and luxurious rooms, all of which in different buildings so nobody gets in each other’s way. The staff is welcoming with children and pets, there is a beautiful large pool and a tennis court. It’s difficult to imagine a nicer place…

The hotel is very tired and dated; the grounds are with beautiful but suffering from a lack of water in the region, hence the water features and gardens were not at their best.||||But now, faint praise turns to condemnation.||||Breakfast is ok, but the evening meal was vastly disappointing. Starters, 1 option only, were passable; Vegetarian options were limited to one, and were unimaginative at best and unpleasant at worst.Non vegetarian options also limited to 1 choice - very small portions and barely passable; desserts, 1 option only and three times a blob of ice cream in a messy pool of some indiscriminate juice. One should not come here for an evening meal in the anticipation of anything vaguely gastronomic. I also found it odd that one fellow guest came down 10 minutes before breakfast started, to make a cup of tea and was charged for a tea bag!!||||I have not stayed in a "4 star hotel" before, where in the best rooms there were no bathrobes, no slippers, no large bath towels, no cotton buds, no cotton wool, no sanitary towels; no coffee and tea facilities, no paper pad by the telephone, nor pencil, and a bottle of water in the room, only every 3 days! Oh and what about the brown loo paper - probably justified on eco grounds but unpleasant to look at or use!||||Hotel management and staff are, in my experience anyway, usually helpful and pleasant. Here with one fabulous exception on reception, the staff were hands off to the point of being deliberately rude. I got the overriding feeling (and other guests agreed) that you actually were not welcome to stay there.

Wow wow wow. A truly beautiful boutique hotel/resort in the rolling countryside between Figueres and Girona. Well-appointed and spacious rooms overlooking the grounds. Attentive and friendly staff throughout but never intrusive. Incredibly dog friendly. Superb breakfast and dinner. A perfect pool. This was one of the best boutique hotels we have ever stayed in. An absolute gem in Catalunya.

Lovely country hotel that is close enough (30min - hour ish) to beaches to be convenient, while on excellent grounds for morning walks. Very happy with the ambience of the hotel, relaxing. Nice pool, tennis courts and great views round it out. The rooms are large, good bathrooms. Had no problems with rooms at all (stayed in the main area). Dog friendly, if a little pricey per dog. Restaurant is not particularly vegetarian friendly, don't expect to dine more than once there if you're veggie. Breakfast is included, but not really suitable for veggie folk. Overall would recommend.
