Casa & Putia Ristorante

We visited this restaurant while exploring Messina (Sicily) in September. We found it by chance when we got hungry, and the staff was very friendly — they immediately offered us a choice between sitting on the terrace or inside. Since it was quite hot, we chose to sit inside with the air conditioning. The appetizers and main courses were delicious, the service was fast, and the atmosphere felt very warm and family-like. Everything was great — even the toilets were clean. Highly recommended!

This place is in the catagory of southern Italy food. We looked at the menu on Google, the dishes look nice. But when we went into the place, the menu is totally different. The food is not typical Italian, very fusion. The dishes taste like the food served in Big Daddy's in US. We came to Italy over 10 times. These are the worst food we ever had in Italy.

Wonderful experience from start to finish. The best restaurant we visited during our 10-day trip through Sicily! The fish rolls were a perfect 10/10 — incredibly tender with a subtle, refined flavor. The dessert Limone — a lemon tart with almond crumble — was like a creamy dream that melts in your mouth. Service was exceptional, attentive, and warm. It was a wonderful! ❤️

First- Great food- Great Staff. Highly recommended. Second. I was fully expecting a tourist trap where you pay a lot and get terrible food because… you don’t know any better and they don’t care. But…. The owner and staff accommodated us (I was meeting friends who were passing on a cruise). We didn’t have a reservation but they found a place for us. The owners have a passion for food and everything was Sicilian cuisine perfectly prepared and we had an amazing visit and time there. Honest prices, great food great people. Love it and I will be back. If you’re in or will be in Messina, plan ahead and make a reservation to support this great place and have a great meal. Thanks!! Thomas

Nice atmosphere, excellent service and friendly staff. The food was delicious, homemade, and made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The portions were on the smaller side, but everything was beautifully prepared.

Such a lovely experience. Food was very delicious. Cooked to perfection, we enjoyed every bite. Welcoming and very informative staff who would give interesting details about the food that was served.

The food was so good. I just wish the portions were a little larger. They are plated beautifully. However, there are only a few bites per menu item. The staff was very friendly!

We had lunch at this restaurant, which had been privatised for the about 20 people attending, on the occasion of my brother's wedding. The food was just amazing and refined, and the wines too. It was a typical Sicilian meal, with about 8 or 9 different items on the menu and only the "dolci" (desserts) were not prepared by the restaurant. We just loved everything that was on the menu, with a special mention on my part for the revisited "arancini" as well as the "polpette" and its side food made of home-made grain bread with cheese and scarola. We were attended to by a friendly young server from Guinea, who thankfully spoke French (our native language) due to his origins and was thus able to provide us with plenty of interesting information about the food and the concept around it, namely "slow food", meaning that pretty all that was served on that day came from very local sources. Another plus about this meal was that our daughter, who is a vegetarian, was always presented with fine alternative dishes although the restaurant had obviously not been noticed. We thought this was a great attention and reflected well the care the owners and their team take of their customers. If we had had time left during our stay, we certainly would have gone back for a lunch or dinner on our own, something we'll definitely do next time we are in the wonderful city of Messina. Looking for an experience of authentic Sicilian culture? You'll find it here. Authentic, old world, charming and delicious. It is slow food, at it's finest. Dishes that other won serve, because they require time, love and attention. Lots of seafood, freashly caught and you can taste the difference. Amazing vegetarian pasta. Lots of dishes to select from. Too many. You could dine here for a week and still not explore it all. Go! You will be delighted!

We arrived at the restaurant and was told there were no tables available for the evening and was turned away. I then informed them I had made reservations to celebrate my wife's birthday and was promptly seated. The highlight was the bread and the olive from Mt Etna, amazing splash of olive oil!. Then things went down hill from there. Service was mediocre, the food was not as expected. I had Spatola and had to search for bits and pieces of fish. The taste was off and I elected not to finish my meal. I assume they were having an off-night but after seeing some of the reviews, I don't think so. I traveled throughout Italy, Sicily and Sardinia and must say this was not enjoyable. I would not recommend this place of business until they re-evaluate their menus and staff.

Excellent excellent excellent food and the service is kind and attentive. Highly recommend Casa & Putia if you want authentic and locally sourced food. The wine is perfectly chilled or in my case red served warm (which I like) Outdoor seating is available but it's a bit noisy.

I got the pesto vegetarian pasta and it was amazing!! Service was also great, they brought a small appetizer and drink for us to try on the house so yummy. It was also easy to walk in for lunch we were the first ones there.

Stopped here after a cruise excursion. Everyone was very accommodating and the atmosphere was very friendly being Americans off the beaten path. The food was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and gave us a great experience. I would go back and highly recommend.

This is a treasure. They a a registered slow food place so they cook within season. We came on my birthday, and all four of use were delighted. For our needs, we were glad to find four dishes with no fish or meat- though they certainly offered that as well. There was a pate, homemade ravioli, a platter of stuffed veggies, and a pleasing sandwich. We had a local beer, and our daughter has a really cool tasting bottle of local soda- not as bubbly as the US sodas, but bitter aftertaste that suited her. Desserts are ice cream and ice cream adjacent; the lemon one with a candied orang slice made us super happy.

Remarkable food and service. The steak tartar and octopus were the best I have ever had. Wine recommendations were spot on. Dessert was very interesting and just delightful. Sweet caper icecream.

This is a great place to enjoy a fine Italian/Sicilian food. I went there with locals and I was surprised that this Restaurant does not exist on Yelp. I decided to create a page so I can share with other Yelpers this experience. We started with an amazing tasty Pumpkin and Fennel antipasto, full of flavors and rich in texture. After that, I had the first plate of home made pasta with Anchovies! To die for! Especially paired with a tasty side Iliad wine. The third plate was braciole and it's a speciality of Messina. Really good and tasty. The service was great, the staff very helpful, they opened a first bottle of wine that we didn't like and they insist on changing it until we found a good bottle to our taste. Prices are reasonable. Must try!

Very close to cruise port but an authentic family owned true Sicilian culinary experience! The food was the best we had so far In Europe. The family were so kind and welcoming. My husband and I both had the pesto and clams and it was fab! The wine made by the family tasted like a 100 dollar bottle for 16 Bucks! Heaven on a plate! Go!

Came here last week with a friend of mine and we were amazed at how good this spot was. From the service to the food, it was everything and more. Surprised how this place wasn't busy when I went, they deserve all the business they can get! So so tasty and perfect place for get togethers :)

We were looking for a different restaurant that happened to be closed and ended up at Casa e Putia. We were so glad the other restaurant was closed! The food is amazing and perfectly prepared. They specialize in Sicilian dishes, some traditional (braciole, pesce azzurro) and some a new spin on the old (caponata di zucca e caponata di finocchio). Everything was delicious! Beyond the food and the cozy environment, the staff are very courteous, patient and ready to cater to your needs. They have a huge wine selection and know exactly what they are serving. If you are trying to answer the question, "where can we go to eat in Messina?" This is your answer.

What can i say but wow!! We opted for the six course meal. We were treated to a variety of dishes (they change each month we were told). The flavors were spot on. The owners are not typical. They are all professionals from various fields who wanted "to honor Sicilian cooking." One owner came out and explained each dish (in English)) including details about where each ingredient was from. The decor is lovely. The bathrooms are top notch. This was a very good place! You should try them out.

0nly a five minute walk from the cruise terminal. My wife and I both enjoyed it. This is a great find. The menus for authentic Sicilian. It was limited, which seemed to insure the food was fresh and cooked to perfection. A owner was our waiter they were friendly helpful and never pushy. If this place was near home I would eat here often.

I arrived early for my ferry ride to Salina island from Messina. The food near the port looked completely unappetizing. Thank god for Yelp! It led me on a 12 minute walk to this wonderful restaurant. Fresh delicious food at a reasonable price. Friendly staff. It made my 3 hour wait for the ferry to leave actually pleasant! Grazie mille Casa & Putia!

Wow, this was worth the effort to get here. Wonderful fresh n tasty lunch. With special traditional homemade lemon jello desert. Even had gluten free bread for me. Wonderful. Spoke English and were very helpful. Parking could be tricky.
