Excellent stay. Shared bathrooms and kitchen were perfectly clean during our time there. Very close to town center, about a 10 minute walk. Rooms were well equipped and comfortable, with a cabin vibe. A plus is that they have cats and dogs that are friendly and make you feel more welcome. Would certainly recommend !

Amazing quiet hostel that feels like home. Rooms were very clean, the atmosphere is very quaint and the staff are all very helpful. They have the cutest cat and dog and I loved having them around. Would definitely recommend staying here to anyone!

Best hostel and best operated hostel that I have experienced in my travels on five continents. Also the cleanest, most thoughtful, most well organized, best kitchen (cleanest/most well organized/loveliest layout and most enjoyable to cook and to cohabitate in); and the most tastefully, artfully, and beautifully decorated hostel (by a long shot) that I’ve experienced overall. Casa Azul is also in perhaps in the best location in Puerto Varas. What’s more, there’s a great communal vibe amongst the travelers and guests coming through. The public spaces can be quite social and yet there are enough of these spaces both inside and out (including little nooks in the shared and gigantic ‘living room’) to find plenty of privacy and quieter zones, even when the hostel is completely full. And then the rooms themselves are exquisite, with a high degree of thoughtfulness having gone into their outfitting and design, including super warm blankets and comfortable beds. Also spotless shared bathrooms that are kept extremely well cleaned on a daily basis. * Hostel is located on a smaller, largely quiet street in the more local part of town (less overrun with out of town tourists most interested in shopping), yet only several blocks and perhaps a five or so minute walk away from the center of town and all of its cafes, restaurants, bars, shopping, plazas and events. It's incredible, really. One great little less frequented cafe is just 60 meters out the front door... * Casa Azul is a family run house and gardens that's been in business for 25+ years (haha, I’m aware now that I sound like an advertisement—I just became so fond of this place is all!) Andres and son Luka do a tremendous job running the place, and it's lovely to notice the level of care that the two and the rest of their staff put into the Hostal (Shoutout to Federico and Krétse!!! (sorry I'm sure I spelled that wrong!)). It’s an informed care that clearly comes from years of experience with the place and knowing what works well. There's a warmth that radiates from the hostel's design theme of beautiful warm, light colored wood throughout--tongue and groove wooden walls, ceilings and floors, wooden doors and gorgeous block wood staircase; to the custom glass display cases that hang in different shared spaces throughout, and are filled with various pieces of memorabilia and pop [and other] culture remnants, from multiple decades and countries with numerous genres of life and art represented (including Andre's former career as a professional photographer in the German movie industry); to the tastefully custom framed printouts of lyrics to profound/inspirational songs or passages from powerful pieces of literature that hang in some guest rooms; the small shelves above the head of the single beds (as well as matching wooden nightstand beside the bed) at just the right height to be able to reach up and grab things in the dark while you're sleeping--and the light and easy to reach light switch underneath. Also a mirror in most of the rooms that I saw and small custom locking wooden boxes to store personal items in. * There’s a Japanese garden down one side of the hostel with a lovely covered deck and seating to take in the sounds of the coy pond at its center and watch the fish swim along beneath strands of colorful prayer flags that hang from above, presiding over the jade and other plants and small Buddhist statues… The highly curated assortment of music that plays on old school high fi speakers throughout impressed me on a regular basis. * I stayed here for a long time--much longer than I'd originally intended to, and I felt so very welcome, almost like a part of the family. You will be impressed by this place (I am not the only one I heard say, 'this is the best hostal I've ever stayed at') and it is almost always full, so book in advance if you think you may like to be here longer! Thanks Casa Azul Hostal crew for truly making me feel at home and for being my home in Chile for nearly a month! See you again! :) :) :) * 'How you do Anything is how you do Everything.' *

located in a quite area yet close to the city center, this place is run by German origins. Room #2 is spacious covered with wood, and has a separate bath room. The shared kitchen is large and fully equipped, yet partly used as a "home office". It's also strange that a bookshelf is locked, so that a traveler cannot easily swap books for reading. Do your best to not be overruled though by looking at the bright side of the lovely garden.

We arrived in Puerto Varas by bus from Bariloche, and the bus station was conveniently close. Our stay at this hostel was excellent overall. We started in the loft room, which was quiet and private but lacked a private bathroom. However, the loft could use darker curtains to block out the morning light, and the steep stairs leading to the room might be a bit challenging for some. The shared bathrooms were spotless, and the communal kitchen was clean, tidy, and well-equipped. The private bathrooms were also great, with plenty of hot water and a spacious bathtub-shower combo. The sink being separate from the main bathroom was a nice touch. One drawback was the lack of soundproofing in the rooms—you could hear quite a bit from the neighbors. The hostel is conveniently located about four blocks from the town center, though the walk involves going downhill to reach it. As someone new to hostels (this is my fifth one), I can say this is my favorite so far. I would definitely stay here again! Ps. They have pets. They roam the property. We did find the cat on our bed one morning. They are harmless.

Great hostel - clean, quiet, organized, nice owner, good kitchen and common spaces (inside and out). Awesome garden and bonsai! Really enjoyed our too-short stay.

I have traveled on five continents. This is the best hostel that I have ever stayed in, and this is my fourth visit. The owners have thought of every convenience that a weary traveler might need. All functions are well organized. There are neat and immaculately clean accommodations across price points. The grounds are an aesthetic delight, with a bonsai garden and Koi pond. Interior surfaces are lovingly finished and well-maintained. It is a brief walk to the center of town, while being outside of the bustle. The owners and staff could not be kinder.

Booked a room - they cancelled it on us the night before as they received more money. Andreas very rude. Edit: We had the room reserved for 24 hours, with all details provided, and you cancelled with very rude emails. Understood it is high season but very disrespectful. Makes sense.
