Casa Balthazar sits at the top of a hill in Lisbon that I would consider to be in the best area of Lisbon. It is down a tiny street filled with several excellent restaurants right at your doorstep. The staff is nothing short of amazing, accommodating, appreciative and helpful. There is cake and coffee in the lounge daily (and an honor bar), and you can book the small spa downstairs for an hour (wish I did that/no time). Breakfast was great (pastries, fruit, sliced deli meats, and eggs (I believe if you ask). We booked the Rossio Terrace which had an incredible view of the city (and a little kitchen), unfortunately for us it rained and we couldn't enjoy it as much as we would have liked to. The mattress practically killed my back (way too hard) so I had a rough time sleeping. Rituals bath products are in the suite coupled with a towel warmer. Walk out to your right and you can descend about a couple hundred steps (not kidding) to the center square below. Streets in the area have lots of additional shopping and restaurants. If you haven't been to Lisbon you need to be aware that it is VERY hilly, has lots of steps and some streets sit at a 45 degree angle (if you're out of shape get that fixed before you go - we saw lots of people huffing and puffing so start walking on the treadmill at an angle and/or the stair climber). Rossio train station is about a 2 minute walk if you want to head to Sintra for example (Purchasing tickets is easy (it rained for us on our Sintra trip and it was awful - not worth going with rain). The key to the Rossio suite required numerous turns back and forth to get it to open and lock. Other than that I highly recommend this property. Perhaps you are really good with extra firm mattresses? You'll love the staff!!! Are you gluten free? Check out Bali do Cais (walkable from the hotel, Indonesian, excellent) and Rice Me cafe (take an uber/bolt- they have amazing pastries). One other note: Uber/Bolt will not drop you off down the street in front of the hotel - you have to walk down the cobblestone street with your luggage. However, when you leave, have the hotel book you a taxi, they WILL come into the hotel area because they turn around inside of the 'compound'. It was only a few Euros more for a taxi and well worth not having to drag luggage down the street. Do note that Bolt is less reliable, in general than Uber - we had rides dropped several times during our trip. Have a great trip!!
