Room smelt horrible, including the pillows and towels. The air conditioning worked but it blew out a disgusting smell. The room felt dirty and uncomfortable. I ended up using my clothes as a pillow case due to the smell on the pillow. Breakfast was good but was severely overcharged for a mediocre buffet dinner. However, the staff were very nice and the pool was nice.

Good things first: - location is really nice and offers breathtaking view over the lake and proximity to hiking paths. - nice little sauna and outside pool Less rosy stuff: - very intensive smell of the toilet in the room. Opening balcony door to clear the air is not an option because of extensive noise. We were trying to address this issue at the reception with little success, but the alternative to take another room (which we didn't need) for extra CHF 50. - poorly trained personnel at the reception and is rather confrontational as helpful - overall our room, which is considered to be of the higher scale, was very old with smelly carpet and noisy air-con - location can be challenging for people with lower mobility - totally overpriced for what hotel is offering, there are way better option in the area of Ascona and Locarno. Obviously, it was our second and the last stay at this place.

We truly could not have had a better experience at Casa Berno in July 2024 to celebrate our engagement. Everything exceeded expectations, from the surface of the staff at the front desk and in the restaurant, to the quality of the rooms and amenities, and of course, the breathtaking pool deck and panoramic views. The included daily breakfast was excellent, drinking an espresso looking over the lake. Highly recommend staying at Casa Berno!

An elegant 4 ☆ Hotel, high above the Maggiore Lake, with a wonderful panoramic view. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the evening menu will be in our memories forever (autumn special dish). The staff was also very attentive.

We had a wonderful time at Casa Berno! The staff are incredibly nice and friendly, and they were super patient with our one year old son, particularly at the restaurant for the breakfast buffet, and for a more formal dinner at the terrace restaurant. The buffet breakfast was excellent (fresh fruit, baked goods, eggs, etc), as was the dinner (my wife had the Penne al’arrabiata and I had the beef tagliata. Both recommended).||||We were initially a bit worried about the hotel’s isolated location, which is about 15 minutes from the main promenade in Ascona (but is a roughly ~200 meter climb!), but they have complimentary shuttle service several times throughout the day, which is totally sufficient for getting to and from the hotel (though depending on your plans, it may require a little planning). That being said, the last shuttle back to the hotel from downtown is at 5:40, so if you plan to go out for dinner, you’ll need to plan for a taxi back to the hotel (~20-25 CHF). Walking back to the hotel is also an option - it is quite scenic, and very peaceful. Though (as mentioned) the uphill walk may be strenuous for some, my 6-months-pregnant wife was able to do it without too much trouble. An additional note, at the end of our stay they were kindly able to provide a complimentary ride (with our big pile of luggage) directly from the hotel to the Locarno train station - which was a big help!||||The room itself was also great. Incredibly clean with a private balcony that had a breathtaking view of Lago Maggiore. Not much more you could possibly ask for, especially given the reasonable price. We had more than our fair share of espressos while reading on the balcony/enjoying the view.||||In summary, we had a wonderful stay, and should we (hopefully!) find ourselves traveling to Ticino again we would absolutely stay at Casa Berno.

Fabulous hotel - amazing views (we had a room on floor B) and had an unobstructed view of the lake and towards Ascona.||The staff are fabulous - very friendly, helpful and speak fabulous English. ||The breakfast was great - continental style and constantly replenished.||The pool is amazing - loads of sunbeds dotted around and again, amazing views. ||Ample car parking and shuttle bus to and from ascona. We had a fabulous time and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the hotel to friends and family.

This hotel has a lovely view which is why we booked it. The hotel is not in a convenient location, down a small road not close to much of anything. The food is good so we did not have to drive anywhere but I think it would have been a problem if we had not stayed on the property for dinner. There is a shuttle. The people who work in the hotel are very nice. The downside is that the hotel is extremely dated, it looks like something out of the 80's. Our room did not have AC, they brought us a fan which did not help much and we slept with the door open so we were awake very early when the sun came up. Nothing like leaving a hotel exhausted. I think some rooms have been renovated but ours had not. We had a very small bathroom with a terrible old fashioned blow dryer that would only turn off when unplugged. The worst part was the smoking. Most of the people around the pool were smoking. At dinner the tables on both sides of us were smoking the entire meal. I felt sick by the time we finished dinner. If smoking bothers you do not stay here. The hotel is very expensive for what you get.

This hotel was awesome!!! Thanks to a special offer I've seen on Ebookers.ch we had the chance to stay there for 3 nights! First, our room was really big... great bathroom with a big bathtub and what a view!!!! INSANE!!! Also while staying on the balcony for sunsets or in the hotel restaurant on the rooftop, everythign was so nice. Also the service on the pool deck... just call for beverages/snacks/food/Ice cream on the telephone at the pool and 10minutes later you have your wishes. We also had luck an the Lamborghini Club Switzerland spent their weekend in the same hotel. What an adventure when they drove away for their day-ride trip!||The restaurant was a bit expansive (for us) but for a weekend in this hotel you're not thnking about money, right? :) "living the life how you want it!" :) ||So we'll come back there for sure and enjoy our next stay!!!
