"Originally a private summer home, Casa Bonita is now a beautiful 12-room resort run by the third generation of the Schiffino family. Located on the Dominican Republic’s southwestern coast near the town of Barahona, the property was constructed from felled trees and thatch, giving it a luxuriously rustic vibe. Inspired by nature, rooms feature white linens, palm wood accents, and wicker furnishings; some have private balconies overlooking the jungle, others have infinity pools with ocean views, and the two-bedroom Villa Bonita includes a terrace with a grill. The resort’s farm-to-table restaurant uses produce from the local community and on-site Pat’s Organic Garden, while the spa incorporates traditional Dominican ingredients like coffee, chocolate, and coconut into each of its indulgent treatments. Also available to guests are activities like water sports, tennis, yoga, horseback riding, mountain biking, and a zip-line canopy tour through the jungle. Should you want to venture off property, the UNESCO-designated Jaragua-Bahoruco-Enriquillo Biosphere Reserve is just next door. There are also coffee plantations, lakes, and caves with ancient tribal art nearby."

I’m Dominican and used to the big beach hotel settings. Casa Bonita was a excellent alternative to what we are used to! Small hotel but, make no mistake, big in service with great accomodations! Hotel staff treats everyone like family, and feels its their personal responsability that guests have a pleasant stay. The manager (Gonzalo) and Berenice are ALWAYS available, very attentive of every detail to further improve the guest experiences. If you go there, you need to make sure to have a conversation with these two! Awesome people with a big ‘Im here to help’ written across their faces!||||Food was awesome, organic and very tasty! Kudos to the driver (Carlos) that took us to Bahia de las Aguilas. A very knowledgable gentleman, very eager to share all that he knows so we can appreciate more the views, the little towns that we passed by, and the best beach in this country. This tour was very well organized, on time and lots of great food!||||Cant wait to come back and enjoy the river suites. Its so peaceful there that one really does not want to leave!

This is one of the best Hotels I've been in, in DR! 🇩🇴.. Second time in a row...! The Villa really nice and spacious and has EVERYTHING you need!! And the River Suites are AMAZING!! Very Boho-chic Hotel, you feel sooooo close to nature it's incredible! 🌼🌸🍀🍄Amazing food, specially the steak and (4 the first time I can honestly say), the Ceviche one of the best in the Country (and I'm Peruvian!) 😆🇵🇪… The service incredible and Yorkendi from the staff, always so helpful even got the cake & flowers for my sister’s birthday and Berenice & Co. took care of the Decor!! 🎂 💜.. Speaking of Berenice & Gonzalo... what a couple!! so nice and helpful, took care of every demand we had! 😣… they really went overboard to make our stay unforgettable!! Really amazing people & hotel.. We will cherish them our hearts forever!! 💜💜|We’ll go back as soon as we can!! Keep up the great work guys! 💪🏼🙏🏼💜🥰😘

I didn't know what to expect - so many places in the DR are big beach resorts, so i was really thrilled to see that this was a beautiful, serene oasis in the midst of a grove of trees! The setting was deeply relaxing, and the room (we got a river cottage) felt like a dream - dark wood, rustic, light filled but protected for privacy. A small deck directly next to the river made for a good reading spot, and a beautiful semi-outdoor shower next to a hot tub. I could have just stayed in the room for days.||||The service was unparalleled - Bere and Gonzalo were attentive and always available (it was really helpful to message them on whatsapp), and the food was great - organic, local, delicious. One night we had dinner by the wood-fired oven outdoors with candles, and with the sound of the river in the background, it made for a really memorable experience.||||I loved the staff's knowledge of the area, from attractions to food and the nearby town. The area is less touristy than others in the DR, but no less full of natural attractions, including the prettiest beach (Bahia de las Aguilas). It was great to explore all of it without big crowds, and return to the restorative zen of Casa Bonita for a great meal, a beautiful setting and the coziest room.

We came here as an impromptu stop on our honeymoon in Dominican Republic. It was the best decision we ever made. Bere and Gonzalo went out of their way to make this the most memorable experience. ! The beauty was unprecedented. It’s a literal gem in the middle of the jungle. We stayed in one of the river houses that felt like we were in one of James Bond’s homes. It was stunning and very private. The staff were on point and always there if we needed anything. They had just sustained a tremendous loss of property to a fire but we would’ve never even known had they not explained. Food was outstanding. We flew our plane in and would highly recommend this as a stop for private pilots. The airport is not open for commercial use but it is very close and they will arrange a shuttle, the driver was so kind. There is an endless amount of activities, we tried the rock sauna and it was awesome. I look forward to see what new experiences they have set up next time we come because we will definitely be back!!!

We stayed at the Master River Suite, it was amazing. Felt really welcomed, the staff is very friendly. My favorite part was the bathroom and the jacuzzi, they allowed and helped all the decorators to make my engagement a dream. We loved the nature around it and how peaceful it was. Just an observation food is expensive and not a lot of variety, but we managed. After that perfection.

Casa Bonita Hotel in Barahona is nothing short of a tropical paradise. The surroundings, decor, ambience and customer service is definitely deserving of a five star rating. The food is simply delicious, five stars! The rooms are nicely decorated, but they are on the smaller side, and can comfortably accommodate no more than two people. If traveling in a group of three or more, I definitely recommend their villas. The hotel should also offer shuttles to nearby attractions, and maps of the area, that’s really all that I felt was missing for a complete five star rating. I still couldn’t give it anything less than five stars, because the overall experience felt luxurious, the service was excellent, it was a beautiful hotel, and a truly beautiful and serene landscape!

Stayed at Casa Bonita with my family and friends during April/2022. Rented the river suite and the villa. Both were good, but really enjoyed the river suite and it's bathroom. The service was great . Everyone was very accommodating to all our needs. Can't wait to see how the hotel looks like after they rebuild the area that faces the sea.
