"Explore impeccable natural scenery at this adults-only hotel, where villas sit perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The property is located in Mal País on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula, where you'll find one of the world's Blue Zones — areas where the people tend to live longer than anywhere else." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Resorts in Central America: World's Best in 2021

"Case in point: No. 3 Casa Chameleon at Mal País on the Puntarenas peninsula in Costa Rica is tucked between the famous surf breaks of Santa Teresa and the Cabo Blanco Nature Preserve, a thick jungle full of wildlife. 'The best views I have ever seen,' extolled one reader, while another loved that it's 'off the beaten path.'" - Travel + Leisure Editors

Casa Chameleon Mal Pais (Puntarenas, Nicoya Peninsula) 5 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For some of us, the words “Costa Rican boutique villas” are more or less all that’s needed. Throw in “Pacific coast” and “Nicoya peninsula” and the chance that you still need convincing drops by half again. For the rest of you, the short version: Costa Rica, one-time low-budget backpackers’ haven, has expanded its upscale offerings, and a place like Casa Chameleon Mal Pais is the perfect venue for acquiring some first-hand knowledge of this trend." - Tablet Hotels

Hotel Casa Chameleon Mal Pais - is a lovely boutique hotel with 10 bungalows all well pointed and comfortable. Each bungalow has it's own pool and you can hear the ocean (and see in most units) from your balcony. The land is lush and there is a lot of life in the jungle - you could hear the Howler Monkeys for miles, we had visits from White Faced Monkeys (pictured), Toucans and even a very large kinkajou in the trees afar. The staff was welcoming and courteous from the moment we arrived, addressing us by name and greeting us with a welcome drink (non-alcoholic and refreshing!). Estaban is super friendly and professional, as is the rest of the staff. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that breakfast (sans cappuccinos) was complimentary.|The menu, for all meals, is limited, however, everything we ate was delicious!|Our only hiccup was one of our bungalows was without hot water and although the resort offered to move the couple we were 5 days into our trip and it was decided the move was not convenient. The hotel compensated us instead, with a very lovely. meal on our last night at the property.|This resort it for relaxing and resetting. ||The beaches in the area are not the best for swimming, however, the Secret Beach has a small sandy spot you can enter the ocean. There are tide pools when it's low tide and that is fun to experience.||The nights are so dark you can get a great view of the Milky Way.|||One note for anyone traveling in/out of Cobano Airport (ACO), ensure you are AT the airport a minimum 1-hour before your departure. While many locals will say 30 minutes is plenty of time (because the airport is so small), you may find yourself in a bind with the airline should you decide to only go 30 minutes in advance. Heed this warning so the challenges do not over-shadow your visit to Casa Chameleon).|Do NOT fly Sansa Airlines but choose Green Air instead.

We had a phenomenal stay – truly unforgettable! The view from the property is absolutely breathtaking, and the rooms were amazing. Each one had its own private little pool and stunning panoramic views. It felt like pure luxury from the moment we arrived.||The staff were all incredibly kind and welcoming, but we want to give a special shoutout to Andy, Keyren, and Estefan. They were all super friendly and went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Keyren even picked us up early one morning (on his own time!) to take us surfing – he brought us to Playa Mar Azul, and it turned out to be one of the absolute highlights of our trip.||If you’re into surfing, Andy and Keyren are the guys to go to. They know all the best spots, are super knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Estefan was also incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our stay – just great vibes all around.||We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly, highly recommend!

We stayed at Casa Chameleon Malpais for the second part of our honeymoon in June and it was amazing! Our room was gorgeous and had an amazing view, and was well cleaned everyday. The food was great and drinks delicious. The staff was friendly and facilitated everything we needed (and even made sure pre-booked excursions were on time). My favorite meal there was the typical breakfast with the turialba cheese & the coco-loco (which i tried on an excursion and become obsessed with it, so they remade it for me)! The romantic dinner was absolutely adorable and so nice also! The road to get up there was a little iffy, but otherwise everything was fantastic. Big shoutouts to Andy, Keyner, Brandon, Nicole and Esteban, you guys made our stay amazing! We will definitely be back!

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Casa Chameleon. The Estrella suite was absolutely stunning! Very private with an amazing view. We loved the plunge pool and outdoor shower. There was nothing quite like waking up to the birds chirping, monkeys saying hello, and a stellar view of the ocean. The "hike" to this suite was more than we anticipated but definitely manageable and well worth the trek!||Beyond the room, the staff was top notch. Everyone was so kind. They even took special care to make sure my food allergens and sensitivities were covered. I have to give a special shout out to Brandon who was so sweet and helpful. I loved that he made the table decorations and handpicked the arrangements. You can tell that he and every single staff member loves what they do.||We absolutely loved every part of our stay and hope to visit again.

My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights for our honeymoon and it was seriously the best trip ever. We didn’t want to leave, of course Costa Rica is amazing and beautiful and we had so much fun exploring, but our highlight was staying at Casa Chameleon. It is the most beautiful hotel with such amazing staff, Esteban, Nicole, Brandon, and Keyner (and everyone else) were so amazing. They went above and beyond for us everyday and we are so greatful. Nicole made sure we felt warm and welcomed as soon as we arrived, Esteban ensured all of our plans were in order and that we were always having a good time, and Brandon and Keyner served with such hospitality and friendliness. The rooms were beyond our expectations, food was incredible, everything about our stay was beautiful!

My wife and I stay at Casa Chameleon for the last part of our honeymoon and it was extremely pleasant time. It is in a great location and the views are beautiful. The staff is super friendly and respectful. We felt like king and queen. The food is also delicious and drinks are amazing. Will definitely recommend this place to our friends and family and anyone traveling to visit Mal Pais. Only downside is that it is on a steep hill, so taxi or an ATV is best up to the entrance. Busses and shuttles won’t take you up the hill. Overall, great experience. Pura vida!

Casa Chameleon Mal Pais Is a tropical paradise. The views are stunning and the villas are incredibly private. We had monkeys hanging out each morning on the tree beside our patio. We had a truly relaxing and restorative stay here. From the moment we arrived, the peaceful atmosphere and attentive service made it easy to unwind. The surroundings were serene, the amenities thoughtfully designed for comfort, and every detail encouraged rest and rejuvenation. I feel refreshed and recharged - a perfect escape. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Esteban gave us some great restaurant recommendations for when we were out exploring as well as some secluded shady beach spots. We had breakfast onsite each day at Brasas del Mar and the food was so incredible. Try the Tico breakfast for some authentic Costa Rican food. If you are renting a car be sure to get 4 wheel drive. The roads are steep and often very rough. It's a fun adventure just to drive around but definitely worth it to explore the local cuisine and shopping.

When we first got there, we weren’t too sure about the location, but the views and service made it so worth it. Our honeymoon stay was amazing! Esteban and Nicky really took care of us, along with Andy and the rest of the staff. They made us feel right at home with their hospitality, and we honestly can’t wait to come back. One tip for future guests: make sure you book a flight from the international airport to the smaller airport near Mal País, otherwise the drive will take a minimum of 5 hours.
