Casa Colonial Mercedes

This was the first casa we stayed in and probably the most charming and authentic Cuban experience, as the others were more like small hotels. We managed to communicate well with Mercedes although her english is as good as our spanish! Mercedes is very hospitable and her food is wonderful. She always offered us a drink when we returned from our adventures. We had marvellous breakfasts with splendid platters of fruit, pancakes and were then offered eggs! Her juices - pineapple, and mango were delicious and we didn't taste any nicer. We also had a very good Cuban chicken dinner here. The food portions are generous and if you eat all the fruit you seem to get even more the next day:)||The case is on a busy corner but the traffic stop at night and is not disturbing.It is also||entertaining to sit on the verandah during the day and watch Cuban life pass by.||Michael, Mercedes son speaks good English and arranged a very good horse riding tour which I would recommend- take swimming costumes as there is a swimming stop which we didn't know about.

A wonderful homestay that I can't recommend enough. Mercedes and her son Michael, who speaks Fluent English, were incredibly welcoming and helpful. The home is clean and spacious and Mercedes' food is definitely among the best we had in Cuba. ||Michael, who works for a local travel agency, kindly arranged excellent local tours to a tobacco plantation and nearby beach as well as bike rentals to cycle around the valley.||Hugely recommended and big thanks again to Mercedes and Michael for such a great time.

We had a lovely stay at Casa Colonial Mercedes.|It is situated on a corner so you see everything passing by. Cowboys, ox carriages, busses, tourists and the citizens of Viñales. This during the daytime, at night it is quiet.||Nice room, good breakfast and lovely dinner. Besides this, Mercedes makes the best Mojito in town and is generous with the rum!||Mercedes doesn’t speak much English, but she is trying and learning. Her son Maikel speaks fluently English.

We visited several casa particulares in different towns in Cuba. This casa was the one we appreciated most! It was´not the most exclusive but senora Mercedes and her son made our stay great. Her cooking is the best in Cuba! Calm and peaceful location. Free coffe and juice.

This was one of my favourite casas on my trip. The hosts were incredibly hospitable and friendly. Michael went to extraordinary lengths to help me (thank you in particular for taking me to the resort to book the Tropicana show!). He speaks perfect English. His mother is very considerate, and made sure that I was taken care of (thank you for the mango juice for the journey!) The room was very comfortable, the veranda is lovely for lounging about, and the breakfast is huge. Great location.

We had a great stay in Casa Mercedes! Maikel and his mum are great hosts and always there to help you. Great breakfast, dinner, ...||||Room and shower are a bit basic but the hospitality of Mercedes makes you forget this quite fast.||||We definitely recommand this casa!||||Hasta la proxima!||||Natalia and Alex

Stayed here back in 2008 but my partner and I have such fond memories of staying with Mercedes and her son and daughter in law. Nothing was too much trouble and they gave us a taste of Cuban family life. Great food and delicious drinks. Highly recommended.

Tia Mercedes, I miss your coffee and yummy chicken, frijoles and arroz.||Your house is always so welcoming. We don't know when but we look forward to our best visit - and sitting in your kitchen enjoying your care and warmth. ||We're far away but you are not far from our thoughts.
