19 Best Boutique Hotels in Mexico City | Condé Nast Traveler

"The hotel is set on a relatively busy road in La Condesa, but once you enter the quaint courtyard all that hustle and bustle just fades away. Every aspect adds to the homey vibe—from the cheery, helpful staff to the simple, bright decor. A different Mexican breakfast is served daily at a communal table, and guests also have access to the kitchen if they want to cook. (But we won't blame you for choosing not to.)" - Susannah Rigg

My husband and I stayed six nights at Casa Comtesse in October 2025. We discovered the property through the Lonely Planet guidebook, which never lets me down—and this was no exception. Casa Comtesse is tucked into the southern edge of the Condesa neighborhood. There was plenty of foot traffic, and we felt safe walking both day and night. Upbeat music plays in the evenings, but it’s pleasantly quiet during the night hours. We had a Junior Suite on the second floor overlooking the enclosed patio. The room was generously sized, with a Nespresso maker, a desk and sitting area, and plentiful outlets. Hot water was reliable, and the rainfall showerhead was a nice touch. The front desk appeared to be staffed 24/7, and there was daily housekeeping—which, in my experience, is not typical for a B&B. There’s a small bar onsite offering a mezcal tasting included with the booking—hosted by one of the staff members and a lot of fun. We enjoyed the daily breakfast, and they accommodated a vegetarian traveler perfectly well. Every member of the staff was sincerely friendly and kind. In advance of our trip, I had coordinated a private tour and transport to Teotihuacan through the B&B, which worked out perfectly. If I had one small suggestion for improvement, it would be to add a few more hooks or a towel bar in the bathroom and perhaps additional lighting around the desk. Overall, considering the final bill, travel dollars go very far at Casa Comtesse—a wonderful stay that exceeded our expectations.

Casa Contesse was the perfect place to stay. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, sharing excellent restaurant recommendations and helping us with bus tickets. The house is wonderfully original, and our room was spacious and full of charm. One little recommendation: I wish the mattress was a little firmer. Breakfast was delicious with the best pineapple jam, and lovely conversations with other guests. I highly recommend Casa Contesse.

As first time visitors to Mexico City, Casa Contesse was the perfect place for my husband and me. The friendly, welcoming and helpful staff made us feeling at home at all times and were available to answer all our questions and provided us with plenty of guidance and help. The house is beautiful and our room was eclectic, ample, with plenty of charm. Breakfast was a gathering place for all the guests to share experiences and it was abundant with the option of a different traditional dish every day. I highly recommend this place for its location, welcoming personnel and charm. We loved it and will certainly recommend it to our friends!

My wife and I would go back to CDMX just to stay here again. Friendly, attentive service on par with a 5 star hotel with an amazing staff. Cool, creative, colorful atmosphere in a great neighborhood. And the home-cooked breakfasts were genuinely some of the best food we had in a city full of great restaurants. Not to mention a great rate and value for all of the above. Do yourself a favor and book it!

We spent 6 nights in a junior suite which was very spacious. The people are bilingual and helpful, they offer a nice breakfast and super location. The only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is that our room was overlooking the back patio and some guests decided to have a tequila tasting the night I wanted an early bedtime and it took about 2 minutes for the water in the shower to get hot.

This hotel was a bit of a letdown. After reading the good reviews we expected more. We stayed in the smallest room in the hotel, and the bathroom was located across the public hallway. This was not mentioned on the website, and we do wish they had said this as I might have booked another room. Furthermore, the building does not have AC. This was not mentioned in the website, and while the weather in CDMX was cool enough to not need AC, I couldn’t imagine this place in the summer! The worst thing that happened was that the Saturday we were there the staff were throwing a party in the downstairs of the hotel for their friends and seemingly family. Guests were not notified nor invited!!! We couldn’t use the entire downstairs of the hotel and heard their party going well passed the hotel’s 10pm quiet time. I am a frequent traveler for leisure and work and this was the first time I had ever experienced such a thing at a hotel. It was totally bizarre. I would not stay here again.

We stayed in two rooms for 5 nights (the Pomposo suite and the king size Jaguar room). The house itself is lovely with lots of art work throughout. Rooms were good size and the beds comfortable. Breakfast always included a cooked option, along with breads and fruits and drinks. While the stay was very comfortable, I have to say that the location was not my favorite, being more on the edge of Condesa and on a busy street across from a major bus stop. Although I was staying at the back of the hotel I could still hear the occasional loud buses from the room. There was also some construction going on in the building behind the hotel, with occasional banging that lasted through the day. The Wifi in my room was also very tempermental and there was a fair amount of time that I could not access anything. Furthermore, since the house is old, there were the expected problems with plumbing, with the water temperature in the shower being somewhat variable (not always that hot). One evening the toilet stopped working and I was not looking forward to having an embarrasing conversation with the staff the next day. However, the next morning I was able to flush it, so all was well. In terms of rooms, I wouldn't recommend spending the extra money on the suite as the extra room was not all that usable, with some uncomfortable plastic chairs being in the area outside the bedroom. The Jaguar room, which was less expensive, was also at the back of the hotel and very nice (although without the massive bathroom that the suite had). Potential guests should also be aware that there is no elevator in the hotel, although staff did help in carrying out bags up to the room on the top floor.

We had an amazing stay at Casa Comtesse! The house is beautiful, and all the staff were so friendly and generous. Excellent breakfasts that kept us fueled up for lots of Mexico City explorations, and a peaceful home base to come back to afterward.

Yelp
I just returned from a week at Casa Comtesse during the Dia de los Muertos festivities. The place a is gem. From the staff to the decor, a lovely and perfect spot to explore Mexico City. I will certainly return. They made me feel as I was at home and the food each morning was amazing. Gracias!

Yelp
Ambience: the house is really charming. The touches are thoughtful. The shared dining room and living space flowed together under a very tall ceiling. Adjacent to the dining area is a glass wall facing the small outdoor patio. Staff: Jackie was the main feature. Her warmth and cheer made us feel welcome and at home. It was our first time in Mexico City, far from fluent in Spanish, her availability and positive spirits were particularly appreciated. The kitchen staff were pleasant. Breakfast was standard: sliced fruit, toast, juice and a warmer main dish. The weekend fare was a bit fresher and tastier. Transportation: it was located 3 long blocks from a metro and directly in front of a bus line. With the connections, going to the city center is about 20 min. We opted to walk, which was about 25 min at a moderate place. So if you want to be away from the bustle, and be able to stumble across cute coffee shops and eateries, this is a good spot. Rooms: the room we chose felt very cramped. We chose the bedroom with 2 beds, advertised as larger than we expected, thinking the sleeping arrangement would be easier on our different travel body clocks. But we do not recommend it - go for another room if you plan to stay more than a couple nights. We peaked into the others and they were significantly larger.
