"A funky guesthouse in Rio’s charming Santa Teresa neighborhood, Casa Cool Beans is an antidote to soulless chain hotels. Not so friendly for kids (there’s a 13-year age minimum) or less physically able guests (there are many stairs and no elevators), it’s better for couples or families with teens. Uniquely designed rooms range from a 183-square-foot twin to a 484-square-doot duplex with a semi-private patio; some have hardwood floors and high ceilings, while all feature original local artwork. The hotel’s friendly American owners serve a continental breakfast each day by the pool and are happy to point you to the area’s best restaurants and nightlife as well as arrange tours and transportation."

Absolutely exceptional, I have never stayed in a place where the owners were so genuinely invested in ensuring that you have a good time not just at their hotel, but throughout your holiday. If you need each morning they will take time to talk through your plans, offering loads of helpful advice, and then assist in booking and arranging any aspects you need. I would especially recommend it to anyone visiting Rio for their first time (as we were), as it really helps to get your bearings and make the most of your time.

Sergio was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent. There was some construction in a few rooms and rather than place us in those rooms, two seperate rooms were provided for my group of three. The hotel can be a bit challenging to get to because taxi drivers are not familiar with it, but the hotel provides a little card with directions. Santa Teresa is a a charming neighborhood. There is a lot to discover in and around the hotel. I can't recommend this place enough. It is a great place to stay in such a large city!

Good value in quaint Rio neighborhood but there are some location caveats. When going to Rio, you need to decide if you want to stay on the beach (paying handily for it) or stay not on the beach for less. Casa Cool Beans would be the later. Accommodations: The facility is very nice, but not fancy. There is a small pool and a little bit of a view. Restaurants several blocks away are decent but the sidewalks in the neighborhood can be dangerous due to being not even with gaps and holes. David, one of the proprietors, was very helpful though is still relatively new to Rio. The rooms have air conditioning and some WiFi coverage. The breakfast area is beautiful and relaxing. Also take note that there are steps getting to the rooms though the staff are very willing to assist with your bags. Location: Located in a quaint neighborhood called Santa Teresa. It can be challenging to get to and from. There is some bus service about 2 blocks away, but otherwise challenging to access. Many cabs had difficulty finding this location. Though once in a cab or bus, getting to the fun nightlife areas are not too far. Cabs to the beach from Casa Cool Beans are roughly $15-20 USD.

Excellent B&B in the Santa Teresa neighbourhood. Lance and David are excellent hosts. Every morning David checks if every guest needs help planning their day and provides helpful suggestions and insights. Breakfast is included and they also provide wall adapters in the office if required. Metro cards left behind by previous guests are also available in the office.

This place is like my second home -- a sunny, breezy escape from the noise and traffic and congestion of the beaches. The staff and owners are like family, the breakfast is to die for, and the price can't be beat. Sometimes I go by myself, just to decompress. Other times I bring friends and we get a whole floor to ourselves. Heaven!

Santa teresa is a cosy neighbourhood and Nice local restaurants and bars at walking distance. Only 10 minutes from Lapa the party district. Room was very big only disadvantage is that you can not ring the Bell at certain moments and recrption also closed after 16.00 and before 0800.

Casa Cool Beans is the most bureaucratic place I have ever booked with in my life. Everything, including time of arrival, is a big-time hassel and must be known up front. Stay away from these people, who would be better suited working at an insurance company or government agency that running a B&B. I have never seen anything so bizarre in my life.

Yelp
We recently stayed at Casa Cool Beans while I was on a 1/2 work and 1/2 vacation trip and it was one of the best "hotel" experiences I have had anywhere in the world. The owner, Lance and the manger, Sergio make sure to provide the type of experience that you would get from a much more expensive hotel. They go out of their way to make sure to help you actually achieve the most ambitious itineraries to the point that you almost feel like you have your own concierge. The location is spectacular. It is located in the older, more winding cobblestone streets of Santa Teresa. It has a much more neighborhood feel, with nearby pubs and eateries that serve as honest to goodness community gathering places. We never felt unsafe even when walking around late at night. It is not the beach, but it is convenient to get there from the hotel and they have towel and bags that you can use if you need them. Excellent decor. They employed local muralist to decorate the exterior walls and have been supporting local Santa Teresa artist for the art in the rooms. We stayed in one of the more modest rooms, but it was perfect for our needs. Breakfast has an omelet bar that you can choose you toppings. Local fresh fruits (like passion fruit!) that we became addicted to... heck, they even had cashew juice!

Yelp
The place is in a historic neighborhood called Santa Teresa. The neighborhood has a lot of character. When it comes to the b&b it is very clean. By far the biggest plus is the people. The owners are very detail oriented and REALLY go out of the way to make sure that your stay is pleasant. The only thing that I can say was not perfect (and I'm reaching here) is that it seemed to me that taxi drivers don't like to drive into this neighborhood. it might be the tight winddy cobble stone streets but those same streets are what give the neighborhood it's flavor.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at Casa Cool Beans for 3 nights almost 3 weeks ago and we both felt that it's what every B&B should aspire to be. The place is extremely beautiful, with lots of attention given to decorative and practical details (for an example of the latter, our room had quite a few outlets that fit American jacks, which is far from standard in Brazil). Moreover, the service is amazing. Lance, the owner, is an incredible host, very helpful, friendly and professional. The staff are great, as well. In addition, the neighborhood, Santa Teresa, is wonderful and worth getting to know. It's not near the beach, but it provides a different side of Rio with its older and charming character, galleries, bars and eateries frequented by locals. We enjoyed getting to know this neighborhood just as much and possibly even more than Copacabana, Ipanema, Lapa and other top attractions in Rio. If we ever go back to Rio, there's no question where we'll want to stay, and we cannot recommend Casa Cool Beans any more highly to anyone else.
