BEST GAY HOTEL EVER! I have been coming here for almost 3 years and at least twice per year. I had a birthday party there. The rooms are unique and amazing with so much character and space. Some rooms have private hot tubs on the patio. There are 3 pools and 3 hot tubs on the property. Kindest and most genuine staff. I lost my phone... it was found... and the hotel shipped it back to me. Any bad review you see of this hotel is a an upset American and thats coming from someone who is an American. If you book at Almar, be ready to become a dollar sign. If you book at Casa Cupula, you are family.

Super friendly and helpful staff. This place is a gem and walking distance to the gay beach and nightlife while still maintaining a secluded vibe up in the hills. I had a beautiful view from my room and loved all the amenities including the gym. The pool bar was great for socializing and the restaurant on site was great for a late morning breakfast. This is my 3rd stay here and I will be back again!

After arriving at Casa Cupola I quickly realized that I had made the correct choice in accomadations. The facility consists of an historic villa. The newer addition to the property demonstrates a tasteful blend of old and new. Rooms are more than sufficiently appointed. Towels are superior quality. The location is a bit off the beaten path creating a more tropical natural setting. Much more desirable than the concrete reality of nearby condo row. However it is only a very short Taxi or Uber ride to the nearby Romantica Zone. Wait time for ride share or a taxi was never more than 15 minutes. There is both a convenience store and pharmacy within walking distance. The onsite restaurant is available for breakfast and lunch and is extremely convenient. The gym is larger and better equipped than the average hotel gym. I did not take advantage of the services offered by the spa. I cannot say enough about the staff at Casa Cupola. Your stay at Casa Cupola will also be supporting an LGBT owned and operated business. The Saturday pool party and Sunday Brunch offered an opportunity for meeting and mingling with other hotel quests. Fortunately the hotel allows non quests to attend these events for a reasonable fee. I met several other Americans from nearby hotels or condos along with locals. I recall one couple from an all inclusive resort regretting that they had not booked at Casa Cupola. I have plans to return to PV and will definitely choose Casa Cupola for any return visits.

I will only be staying here in PV from now on.. the staff are genuine and kind, the food is tremendous and the vibe is chill and inviting. The food/drink prices are reasonable - and they have great events pretty much every day that people from other hotels come and pay to enjoy - but they are at your doorstep for free. The “After Dark” poolside dinner and show is an absolute must, you will not be disappointed.

Came out for the Saturday pool event — the host and the show were definitely the highlights! Super creative with great energy, interactive games, and an all-around fun atmosphere.||Unfortunately, the bar was a different story. It felt disorganized and messy, and the cocktails were subpar. The server had a really unpleasant attitude. We left a $6 tip for four drinks, and he actually told us it wasn’t enough, which made the situation very uncomfortable.||To top it off, his uniform was messy and had food stains, which didn’t exactly inspire confidence. Honestly, the service didn’t warrant an exceptional tip, and the way it was handled left a bad impression.||Overall, the event has potential, but they seriously need to invest in staff training — both in customer service and basic bartending skills.

I don't recommend stay in the hotel; if you go only to the pool parties its OK! I stayed one night. The rooms are old and the furniture looks deteriorated. Neither of the two AC worked properly, so it was very hot inside the room. At checkout, they didn't cancel the $3,000 pesos deposit, which is a security deposit, so I had to keep calling and emailing to get it returned. After all they returned my deposit via PayPal; but I probably won't come back stay in the hotel.

Google
Try for a room that faces outward into the valley. I had a room that had a mixed view of hillside forests, condos, and the ocean and it was beautiful. The location is more secluded being on a hilltop with a long, winding road downhill to the more active streets. It’s still close to stuff but if you don’t want to be on the main drag it has a good standoff.

After Dark is a current promotion that there currently running that includes a 4 course meal. You don’t need to be a guest staying there. We did not stay here but gave a 5 star for room so it doesn’t hurt their rating. The dinner experience was the best we’ve had during our 2 month vacation. The setting & ambiance was beautiful & romantic for my wife & I. They feature live music during these events and we got do enjoy Diego & Jared. The whole experience was so wonderful and the host Brian made sure every table was satisfied. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The Drag Brunch on Sunday morning was so fun. The buffet had a nice assortment of breakfast basics and tasty treats with non alcoholic beverages to complement those who ordered the bottomless mimosas. The cliff view from the show was spectacular and made for a relaxing afternoon. A pool party follows right after the show. Although I didn't stay on the property I enjoyed the hillside esthetic with several floors and hidden patios.

Yelp
The experience of the day pass for the pool was underwhelming. It's a bit pricey to get in the door, and then you realize that EVERYTHING is extra. If you want a locker, extra. If you want a cabana, extra. That's not that uncommon, but the thing is... if you want to sit at a TABLE, extra. Being there by myself and just wanting to take a dip in the pool, I was relegated to sitting at the bar, hanging my backpack over my chair, and kind of "squatting" there to not lose my spot. Friends eventually arrived and we upgraded to a table, but we would honestly prefer if you just paid more to get in, then got to sit anywhere you like. It just felt very nickel-and-dimey in a way that wasn't congruent with relaxing. Not sure we'd return.

Benjamin D.

Yelp
We attended a pool party, expecting a fun and relaxing time, but it turned out to be anything but. First, we were charged about $45 just for entrance, which seemed steep but we thought it would be worth it. At the entrance, they told us we could sit anywhere, so we chose a spot by the pool. Then the unpleasant surprises began. Apparently, sitting by the pool came with an unspoken 3,000 pesos minimum spend, which was never mentioned at the door. To make matters worse, towels weren't even provided. If you didn't bring your own, you were forced to rent one for an additional $10. None of these ridiculous charges or rules were communicated beforehand. For the price, you'd expect much better service and transparency. Instead, it felt like a complete money grab with poor management. Wouldn't recommend wasting your time or money here. Their response: Your today's attendance was in our Naked Pool Party from 3 to 8pm hours. We charge pre sale tickets on the Eventbrite platform and ticket sale at the door of the event at a different cost. This is a regular practice in the pool clubs, hotels, and entertainment industry. The cost of the entrance is the cost of using Pool Club PV facilities as It is the heated pool, jacuzzi, showers, bathrooms, jardens, and playground area. Also, the entertainment with Gogo Dancers, show, games, host, music, and amazing dj. We also provide P.R. discount codes if you mention the name you received 10% discount if not regular price. As Pool Club inventory of lounge chairs, circular beds, and cabanas, we offer the opportunity to rent those with minimum consumption in the pool parties as regular hotel and pool clubs industry does. We do inform all our guests about the cost of a specific inventory of furniture and the general area with tables, tall chairs, and couches with no minimum charge of consumption. Towels and lockers are not included and have a cost of 100 pesos rental and 100 pesoa deposit. We always explain to our guest when they require the service. We are very sorry you didn't get the complete information of the business and costs. My response to their response: Thank you for your response, but it misses the core issue. We understand that pool clubs and hotels often charge for facilities, and we don't dispute that. The problem wasn't with the idea of minimum consumption or towel rentals--it was with the lack of communication about these charges upfront. When we arrived, we were specifically told we could sit anywhere, with no mention of a 3,000 peso minimum spend for certain areas until after we had already settled by the pool. That's where the frustration lies: being blindsided by unexpected costs that weren't disclosed at the entrance. Additionally, while you mention informing guests about towel rentals, this information was never provided to us upon entry or in the ticket details. Transparency goes a long way, and unfortunately, that was lacking during our visit. We hope you take this feedback seriously and improve communication with future guests to avoid similar disappointments. And as a side note, while I understand you're trying to clarify the nature of the event, disclosing that I attended a naked pool party is unnecessary and frankly, unprofessional. The focus of my review was on the poor communication regarding additional charges and not the type of event. My privacy and the privacy of other guests should be respected, regardless of the setting. That said, my main issue remains: the hidden costs and lack of transparency about minimum consumption fees and towel rentals.

Yelp
3/1 - 3/7/22 The highlights are the staff and the pool house. The view is a close third and the bistro is absolutely amazing. Situated about a 10 minute walk from the hottest gay bars this is a great place to return to. The beds were comfy and view from the oversized balcony is simply amazing. Pool parties: just go. DJ, contests and guests from all over the city. The crowd that attends is very diverse. Shouout to Lalo who is a flat out amazing bartender that will take care of you! Bistro: amazing food and atmosphere, I just wish they were open later. Other pools: the 2nd floor pool area was nice but a bit of heating and updated atmosphere would go a long way. Room: I am surprised by some of the reviews. My bed was great, the room was better more expensive ones I have stayed at in Vegas. Cleaning! - we are not just talking a changing of the sheets but everything up to and including moping the floor. Concierge/front desk: no matter what I asked for they provided - and more. I do agree they could update the patio furniture. Just go. You will enjoy it.

Yelp
Can't speak to the rooms, but my experience at the pool bar was bad enough I had to share. I went to an afternoon pool party there. Ordered three drinks on my tab. They tried to charge me for eight. The bartender stood his ground, as I tried to explain that I wouldn't be able to stand if I had consumed eight drinks. Finally, the bar manager (?) cut it down to four. Ok, deal. Still not a cool and feels super sketchy, but I can handle an extra drink charge. THEN, I realized the next day, at the airport, that they had given me someone else's credit card. Same bank. Card looks similar, but just has a different name. I own part of the blame for this, as I should have looked at the name, but they also should have been better organized. I am not impressed.

Yelp
I have stayed at Casa Cupula on several occasions and have noticed a precipitous decline in both maintenance and staffing. Through the words and actions of the Hotel Manager (initials BR), Casa Cupula has clearly demonstrated that if is not a safe, sanitary, and welcoming space. I will certainly not make the mistake of returning. On multiple occasions, I found it necessary to complain about matters of basic health and sanitation - no running water, dogs*#t on the pool deck, a filthy carpet in the bathroom, etc. One might reasonably expect that a luxury hotel would want to address these issues promptly, thoroughly, and courteously. The response was seldom prompt, seldom thorough, and never courteous. On my last visit, the Hotel Manager BR responded to a complaint about the filthy carpet by standing in my suite and yelling at me like a crazed person. BR's aggressive tone and menacing stance were truly alarming. Had BR not been blocking access to my cell phone, I would have summoned the Tourist Police for assistance. Such threateningly hostile behavior toward a customer should be grounds for immediate dismissal.

Yelp
This was our second stay at this exclusive boutique hotel. We loved it so much we have booked our third visit in January 2020. Everything about Casa Cupula is amazing. From the exceptional customer service to the amazing food at the restaurant. The exclusive pool parties hosted every Saturday and Sunday are a fun break from the normal beach chair fun. If you have ever been to Puerto Vallarta you know what I mean about the chairs on the beach. Casa Cupula offers a gym, restaurant, pools, driving services to and from the airport (which I strongly recommend), and even spa services. We love our room because it is the perfect size for two. The fridge and safe in the room are also very convenient for us. Already planning 2021!

L G.

Yelp
Very poorly maintained. Once you arrive, they want to add on all kinds of extra fees. Example: if you want to sit by the pool, you have to pay an extra fee, even as a hotel guest. Not particularly clean, and the common areas are generally run down. Do not recommend.

Yelp
I have really struggled with writing this review but - I also feel that having had the experiences I have with Casa Cupula I owe it to other travelers to share our last experience and - hope for major changes at this once great Hotel. My husband (then partner) first went to Casa Cupula 15 years ago - and it was - a dream. A true five star luxury boutique gay hotel in Puerto Vallarta. The architecture was incredible, the design high-style and the services top notch. We made it our go-to destination every time we went to Puerto Vallarta - every two or three years. We were last there four years ago exactly. And - four years ago - for the most part it had maintained its high quality - and they had opened a fabulous bistro.. the meals were incredible. What a difference four years makes. Because of our prior experiences we rented two suites for 20 days - prepaid. Since I was going to be working remotely I was sure to ask about internet capability and was assured it was fast and working A very very sad deterioration. Our first suite was Milagro. We were told at check-in the spa on the deck was being repaired and would not be available that day. It also wasn't fixed the next day. It worked for a day and needed repair again. The restaurant no longer serves evening meals. The furniture was worn out and the fabrics stained. And the technology was ancient and barely functional. The internet was too slow to actually use the Apple TV functionality. It was all pulled together with an old receiver... I asked multiple times for someone to come look at the TV so that I could log into apps and use it - no one could figure it out. The internet was so slow - you can forget working remotely for zoom or FaceTime or Skype calls. We made the best of it - and we were reassured that all would be well when we moved to the Executive Suite for our final ten days. The suite had its own pool on an upper level patio with lounge chairs and an outdoor grill.. the pictures looked fantastic. By the time we moved rooms, it was evening and after all the stress of the first part of the visit we were looking forward to getting into the hot tub. No sooner had we gotten into the hot tub - which is weirdly situated in a step out in the bathroom next to the urinal - we noticed a horrific smell.. It was in the hot tub - and in the drains of the shower - and in the urinal in the bathroom. It was disgusting. It turned out there was some kind of problem with the sewage exhaust off loading into the suite. At midnight the front desk worker (a wonderful young man) was scrambling to find someone to help and he did his best to at least plug the vent and shut down vents so that at least the stench didn't permeate through the suite. The next day workers came to look at that - and to fix the pool. Although the stench quieted down somewhat - it never really left. Although we were told we had to set a timeframe for the hot tub to run - and we did - it just ran - randomly - not that we were in any hurry to get back in. The upper deck with the pool as you can see by the pictures - was in a state of disrepair. I brought one of the front desk clerks up to show him the grill - which was an embarrassment - and he sheepishly said it doesn't work. We were told when we checked in there was some issue with the pool and the filtration and they were working on it but were assured it would be fixed the next day. It took two more days to fix that. The entire place had been neglected in the four years since our last visit. I sent multiple emails to the manager - and asked that they be forwarded to the owners and requested a conversation with them. It never happened. We were given two free massages at their also tired spa as a consideration for our inconveniences. I want to add that the staff remains hard-working and eager to please. From the front desk, to Boris the manager, the desk clerks, the housekeeping staff and the workers at the bar and pool. Just friendly and dedicated. This is not about the staff. They are fantastic. Wonderful people doing the best they can. With each mishap, Boris and the crew did their best - but with a crumbling infrastructure - there is only so much they can do. This is about the owners simply - giving up - or so it seems. I know the pandemic years were brutal - but this decline was in play long before COVID. The raw space is still gorgeous - the architecture is still stunning and the view are incredible... but the infrastructure and the interiors are gasping their last breath. And, something else has happened in the intervening years since Casa Cupula opened - there are some amazing luxury options for gay travelers in Puerto Vallarta that have opened up. I would advise anyone to make sure you do your research before you book here. And with all my incredible memories of years past at Casa Cupula - it breaks my heart to say it.

Yelp
We love our stay at Casa Capula. Last time we stayed at an all inclusive and we will never do that again in PV. The staff, hey Antonio!, is incredible. Tucked away high on a hill but still a 10-15 min walk to the beach. 5 mins walk into Zona Romantica. You get the best of PV, seclusion right on the town. Amazing views, amazing rooms, amazing food. We loved our stay. There are absorbing bo complaints. We splurged (which is funny cuz it's still amazing price) for the frida suite!

Yelp
I love this (gay) boutique hotel. Note: this review is mainly for Pump Gym My friends and I stayed at a resort time and we wanted to switch things up. Ended up booking the very nice hotel - Playa Los Arcos so we could be right next to the beach and where the clubs and restaurants are. My friend found a great deal there so it made sense too. The only thing was that I wanted a gym. My body goes into shocks when it's on vacation and if I don't have coffee and exercise, then it stops digesting. I looked around the area and only found The Fit Club and a couple that were just for yoga. Ended up coming across Pump Gym and at 600 pesos for a VIP weekly pass for gym access and pool access, this was a great deal. The gym is clean and has a good amount of machines. It feels a bit cramped because of the small amount of space but if there's nobody using the gym, it's more than fine. They have music playing, which can get loud, but it's alright too. The pool is absolutely lovely and very serene. Everything is well manicured and they have a steam room inside the lockers. Very nice. I plan to stay at this hotel my next visit. Apparently their Sunday brunch is amazing. The people who booked a couple of rooms together (half the building?) were super friendly and even walked me to where the reception area is.

Yelp
Amazing experience. The staff were amazing - Always helpful and very friendly. Up the hill a bit from old town Puerto Vallarta, but the walk isn't too bad. Great views from the balcony. Clean rooms with nice amenities. They have an on-site restaurant with limited seating and hours, but there's plenty of places to eat in town. I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
I recently stayed at Casa Cupula and had a blast. The staff was super friendly and had no problem pointing out things to do and places to see. The view from my room was pretty on point and we could even see the beach fireworks almost nightly. Everything is roughly 7-10 min from the hotel, so very manageable.

Yelp
Been here about 3-4 times, though not for a couple of years (been going to Zipolite - Heven is amazing as far as tropical gay bnbs go). We're headed back soon. The property is amazing and really expanded and upgraded over the years by Don. Location is ideal. Close to Los Muertos (gay beach), restaurants, etc. Good service generally. Off peak or on a last minute deal it is a decent value, tho I find the full price Nov-Mar rates a bit steep. Anyway, for my money, gays going to Mexico should consider here or Heven in Zipo.

Yelp
Positives: The diver and the person that checked us in was very nice and friendly. Room was very nice and spacious. Negatives: We checked in 330p and headed to their restaurant as we were starving. They told us that we wanted to have lunch we should go now as they close at 4p. We got there we were told they were already closed and it was 340p. However they pointed us to their pool lounge as they serve food there. Food was ok as it was more appetizers than food. When we got back our room around 1130p we noticed how dark the area was and when we got into our room nothing turned on. We had a power outage which we understand it's nothing the hotel can do but they at least could have checked in to see if we were ok, if we needed anything like a flashlight etc. but nothing so we used the flashlight feature on our iPhones. Next day we got back to the hotel around 830p and wanted to use the pool to cool off but was told that both pools was close. We heard people at the pool so we decided to check it out and saw people in the pool but again was told by one of the staff members their by the pool that it was closed. I guess the staff was using the pool? Check out was 11am and our flight wasn't till 4p and was told that we could use the pool, gym hang out at the hotel until the driver takes us to airport. We decided to walk town around town for bit. When we got back to hotel around 11am we decided to use the pool but was told it's not opened till 1pm. So we asked if could just sit by the pool as it's hot and have no room to go as we checked out and he said no. So we just walked to other pool and notice no one one there so we just sat there to cool off. At this point I had enough of this place so asked the front desk if they driver can just take us the airport now so we can enjoy amenities that are opened. Driver was available to take us but before we left that front desk person said hey we noticed that beer and sprite was missing in the room fridge (my husband doesn't drink alcohol and sprite and I don't drink beer and soda) which we were not surprised by that comment as one of their yelp reviews it happened to another guest. Needless to say we immediately disputed it and told the front desk person that we did not appreciate the accusations and he immediately replied back he is not accusing us. Lesson learned here: We shouldn't have checked their yelp reviews before we booked it. We came with a bunch friends who all stayed at an Air B&B in the heart of Zona Romantica (it was a beautiful place and convenient to everything) except us as we wanted to stay at a "gay resort". Unless you plan on going to bed early and use the pool between 3p-8p then this is place for you other than that I would book else where.

Yelp
What an amazing experience we had at Casa Cupula. Our company, Zen Casa, hosts several gay retreats in the United States and in Mexico. After my initial visit to Casa Cupula, I inquired about hosting a gay men's retreat at the resort. The entire staff went above and beyond my expectations. We rented out more than half of the resort including the Villa Sevilla. The accommodations are extremely comfortable. Each room is unique and the bathrooms are modern. Everyday we had different activities planned for the retreat and the staff was ready and willing to be of service. When we had morning yoga on the top patio, the staff ensured all the furniture was moved and the floor swept. The restaurant Taste, had a banquet table setup alongside the pool where we enjoyed our candlelight dinners with excellent service. They took care of ground transportation to and from the airport and made sure everyone felt at home. Logan, Edwin, and Jesus provided top quality service. They provided recommendations for restaurants in town, helped to organize our group excursions, and was attentive to all of our needs. We loved the experience so much we are going back to Casa Cupula for our April retreat in 2017!!

Yelp
Fantastic . Highly recommend . Logan and all the staff are very helpful. We stayed in the oxaona suite which over looks the pool club pool . Great spot. You can walk into town in about 10 minutes . The hotel is on a hill so coming back might be a hike for some travelers . If so, you can get a taxi for 50 pesos ($3).

Yelp
So all of these reviews are quite old. Don't waste your time here; the fun crowds have moved on. If you do try it watch your bill very carefully.

Yelp
Went to the Adam & Steve pool party today and it was fun. But, they use an antiquated ticket system (1 tickets = $50 pesos). During our afternoon there the waitstaff over charged us by one ticket and wouldn't rectify the issue even after we discussed this whit them and they agreed that they did. So, be very careful. They will steal your money right in front of you, admit it, and not make it right. $50 pesos isn't a big deal... but, it's the principle of the matter. We went to enjoy the boys, beers, and sunset which were all fun... not to be knowingly taken advantage of by the staff. They could of made this right and decided not to. *** Note I tried to resolve this issue via messaging the property directly and they wouldn't respond. Podrían haberlo hecho bien y decidieron no hacerlo. *** Tenga en cuenta que traté de resolver este problema a través de la mensajería de la propiedad directamente y no respondieron.

Yelp
Haven't even gotten there and I'm already so impressed with Casa Cupula's quick, friendly, and HELPFUL customer service. Any question I've had has been answered with in minutes of me reaching out. This will be my and my husband's first time at Casa Cupula and PV! Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the person that helped be but I feel its safe to say they are all awesome. If this is how they treat their future guests, I know we're going to have an awesome time!!! See you in June!!!

Yelp
I stayed at Casa Cupula four years ago on my first trip to PVR and I continue to look at their site to plan a return trip. I have been to PVR a few times since but with larger groups and stayed elsewhere but I am definitely longing for a return trip to stay at Casa Cupula. The staff is so friendly, the gym facility is top notch and I love the Taste restaurant attached. The Friday Night Welcome cocktail party was awesome to meet the staff and other hotel guests.

Yelp
My husband Mark and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Cupula. Our room and terrace were fabulous. The staff went out of there way to help us and make us feel comfortable. We would like to personally thank Gustavo, Logan, Alex, Fabian, and our host Senor Don Pickens. We especially loved the infinity pool which was just outside our suite and the shower for two. So many pools to relax by, and the views are breathtaking. We enjoyed the food at Taste, and had such a great time here overall. Thank you Casa Cupula for making our trip to Puerto Vallarta very memorable. We will come back to you any day.

Yelp
Amazing resort. Friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again. Taste us a nice option. The brunch is out of this world. This is a must if you have a weekend stay. Many pools to choose from. Bar is great. This is an upscale and classy resort. Thanks for an amazing time.

Yelp
Did you Notice how the bad reviews are from people who came to party? Or from people with an unrealistic view of luxury? You can't compare this to South Beach properties costing 10x more. My husband and I came here for a romantic Valentine's Day trip. We loved it! The hotel is perched above the romantic zone. It takes about ten minutes to get to the bars and restaurants, but the walk is beautiful. Plus you might see some iguanas! The location feels extremely private. We were told they have 19 rooms, but it felt like we were the only ones here. The room was beautiful. The views are incredible! As a gay traveler, I can not recommend Hotel Casa Cupula enough. I highly suggest the couples massage in your room. It was the highlight of our trip.

Yelp
Before you think I'm giving an unfairly low rating of Casa Cupula, check out my recent review of Island House Key West--it embodies many of the things I wish CC would take note of. Casa Cupula is "okay". I write the review as a guest that has stayed 3 distinct times, over the course of about 6 years. 1st visit was 2010, then again in 2012 and now in 2016. Things started out great during my first stay in 2010, but then upon my most recent visit, I've noticed the following: 1. There is ZERO evidence of reinvestment into the property by the current ownership. Guest room decor looks exactly the same as it did in 2010, and it hasn't worn so well. Common areas could use a paint refresh, outdoor cushions and fabrics on resort chairs and outdoor beds are faded, and there is more work to be done on tile and plaster all around the resort than a little spring cleaning could accomplish. I understand that all of this is occurring in a desert/tropical/ocean adjacent environment that is humid, hot and blistering hot sun all the time--that's the point of planned property reinvestment--to reverse environmental damage over time. This property looks and feels faded. 2. Interactions with house staff were largely positive--most staff members went out of their way to help me with things I asked for, like booking the boys' catamaran cruise (well worth the $90USD) and tips on where to go out at night. One desk agent, who I will not name out of courtesy, was pretty snarky at check-in, with some serious attitude, as I was arriving after flying for 18 hours to get to CC. I think he was trying to be cute/funny/relevant, but it just came off as another 20's assh*le with too much attitude that I'd step right over in my daily life. That was less than ideal, but again, the rest of the staff, including the amazing housekeepers, was just fine. 3. The gym is pretty awful. Cardio equipment looks like it's 15 years old, and you'd be hard-pressed to find 2 sets of weights that match on the free weight wall. It makes my local YMCA look like a hi-end LA Fitness. I made it work, but it should be said that the ENTIRE gym could use a serious makeover. It should look more like an offering at any Hilton property, and less like your high school friends' garage gym. For those interested in taking their cardio routine outside, the tall set of stairs just down the hill by Signature Residences make a great outdoor option that I turned into a contest with friends. Of interesting note, they actually have a real life person sitting in the gym babysitting the often-empty gym--it was hard to imagine, as a small business owner myself, how this payroll could really be justified. 4. For a 'Resort' property, things around the pool area were damn disorganized. I stayed at the property for a week, and the outdoor loungers tucked under faded cabanas were often piled high with extra cushions and pillows (and it wasn't raining). With so many staff members running around, it seems like it could be on the task list to keep this area clean, organized, and place fresh towels on the loungers, like they do at any other resort property--gay or straight. 5. During previous visits I was approached by hotel restaurant staff while hanging poolside to see if I'd like something to eat or drink. Not on this visit. Not once did anyone from the restaurant pass through the pool deck area to offer food or beverages, which was a missed opportunity on their part. Sure, there's plenty of food and drink in PVR, but the hotel menu represents a level of convenience that I would have ABSOLUTELY taken advantage of--if anyone had offered. 6. I left Casa Cupula with awful bites all over my torso, legs and groin area. Bites that are still healing 3 weeks after my stay. The hotel suggests that these are likely the result of sand fleas, and not bed bugs, but, honestly, I'm not so sure, and I'm not willing to try and prove anyone right or wrong with a revisit. In summary, it was a gem for a while--and not just in my imagination. Now, absent some real cash flowing back into the physical property--and some staff training--I honestly wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
This was my first-ever visit to Puerto Vallarta. I booked a last-minute solo getaway when I had some unexpected time off. And I couldn't have asked for a better place discover PV than Casa Cupula. Casa Cupula's high level of hospitality is noticeable from the get-go. I used their airport car service, which does cost more than Uber or a taxi, but I appreciated having someone there waiting for me after long trip. Then you arrive and are immediately greeted with a smile and a glass of wine. Alex at the front desk, who is excellent at his job, showed me around the facilities (the layout of the place takes a little time to get used to so I was glad to be shown around). Antonio likewise was very helpful and Eduardo the concierge really knows the town and had great suggestions. If you're used to American corporate hotel chains the customer service shown here is a real treat. My room was very nice, a large space with a large balcony overlooking the bay. The bed is comfortable, the two-showerhead walk-in shower was nice, I loved the decor. The clothing optional pool area area was also nice, set on another spot with nice views, and they are very generous with the alcohol when you order their margaritas. I also found most of the other guests pleasant and approachable and I'm someone who is usually shy when I'm by myself. I had no problem making new friends. I didn't use the gym, which looked a little dated, but you're going to get your cardio in going up and down the hills anyway. The food at the restaurant Taste was good, not great. If I was staying downtown I wouldn't come up the hill to eat there but it's fine if you're stumbling out of your room in the morning looking for something to eat. The real attraction of Taste is the setting, outdoors on a porch, and sipping coffee while you watching birds and butterflies go through the treetops was very nice. Casa Cupula takes their guests' safety and security seriously. Being on a quiet side street in the hills, they spell out safety precautions for going into town at night. They offer a shuttle service until a certain time and give you the number for a trusted taxi company for later hours. They are also serious about locking the entrances at night and keep hustlers/unsavory characters off the property. Never at any point at Casa Cupula did I feel unsafe. Before I'm done I have to take a minute to have a good laugh at the two bad reviews on here amidst all the other reviews which are four or five stars. One is from a person who has the money to travel to PV but will leave a one-star review at a place he didn't actually stay at because he was accidentally overcharged $2 U.S.; the other tries to claim from thousands of miles away that Casa Cupula management is not reinvesting in the property when in fact they've expanded it from five rooms to 19. Comments like those say more about the reviewer than the place being reviewed. All in all I could not have asked for a better place to stay for my first visit to Puerto Vallarta! I'll absolutely be back.

Yelp
My partner hosted my birthday trip here last weekend. Truly an amazing time! First off, the rooms. We had the penthouse suite. A great size, amazing bathroom, great décor. The true gem, however, was the multilevel terrace. With it's infinity pool, grill, and views, it made it a great place for entertaining. Our friends occupied 4 other suites/rooms. Each were unique and had their own charm. The views and outdoor spaces in all were stunning! Secondly, the staff. Logan and the concierge staff did a great job suggesting restaurants, beaches, and clubs, as well as arranging travel through out our trip. The wait staff at Taste, their restaurant were friendly, funny, and cute. All and all, the entire team went out of their way to make us feel at home and welcome. Finally, the grounds and pools. The entire property is beautifully landscaped and tastefully done. The pools are not of Olympic proportion, but are perfect for dipping after a day a the beach. The Adam and Adam pool party is fun and the boys are not to be missed. A big thank you to the entire team at the Casa Cupula. You helped to make our trip an memorable experience! You will see us again soon.

Yelp
I really enjoy traveling alone. My vacation is about relaxing and taking care of myself, and I want to be on my own timetable. But I do get concerned that I will find myself bored or idle as I frankly can be a little shy. A few days before I arrived at Casa Cupula I received an email from Logan, the concierge. He wanted to know my flight arrival times and what I was looking to do in PV. A few emails went back and forth and I soon felt confident that there would be no worries about being bored. He and his staff were always available to make sure my vacation was perfect. They planned a private tour of the city with a great guy named Armando. (Highly recommend. He was perfect.) I also had a great experience cuddling a baby Bengal Tiger at the zoo which Logan recommended. Casa Cupula also seems to attract a great group of travelers. I met a wonderful couple from Guadalajara and a quiet dinner with them turned into a late night bar crawl that I hope one day to replicate. Enjoy the pool, where a quick smile at the bartender has him taking your lunch order and setting a table for you poolside to enjoy. A shout out to Alex and the reception team who were always happy to answer questions. What's the best bar tonight? What time should I get there? What's your favorite restaurant? Every question was answered enthusiastically and their recommendations were spot-on. They were really charming and I was sad to leave. I am very excited to return. It's a great city with a great hotel filled with great people.

Yelp
Tom C has it spot on! This place is a true "gem"! It is very classy, clothing optional, not "seedy" at all. We are staying at a 5 star resort on the beach and I'm telling booboo let's stay a couple nights here! Sadly, we paid in advance for the other resort! I'm still saying "let's stay here a couple nights!". Your on a hillside, overlooking the ocean...amazing views, with a great breeze!!! If you like to stay in a nice, classy, gay place that is close to everything stay here! Don't make the mistake we did! The pictures of the stunning pool (and I'm a snob!), is open to a "select" public from 1 pm to 7 pm, lovely people here. If your coming as a monogamous couple, no problem at all. Additionally, they have this great music playing by the pool and it isn't "too loud". All chill and relaxing here with a great classy gay vibe! The food is light and done very well, you can walk 10 minutes to the great restaurants and clubs, but take a taxi back! The hike up isn't fun (uphill for 5 minutes) and taxi is crazy cheap! It was 4:20 pm here, amazing! A must come

Yelp
Wonderful hotel. Pros: Large rooms, clean, great bedding, tastefully decorated, attentive and helpful staff. Get the half border plan for meals at Taste restaurant. You will not be disappointed. Our friends were on the first floor. It walked right out to the pool deck. We didn't use the gym facilities other than for massages. Cons: The entrance to the hotel off the main road looks a little sketchy, don't let it fool you though. We were not the 2nd floor near the main door to our section. It was made of heavy iron. You could hear it shut every time a guest/staff came or went. I'm a light sleeper.

Yelp
We stayed here on our recent trip. It's a nice place, great rooms and nice atmosphere as a gay destination. Service is solid. They could improve things a lot by having a coffee, tea, station by the pool in the am. There was no way to get tea in the am short of their nicêr restaurant. Easy to get into town from there and good exercise back.

Yelp
This is a five star kind of place and deservedly so. Nestled on a mountainside in PV, it feels like you are actually staying in a tropical rainforest. The service is impeccable and the rooms, restaurant and pools are top notch. And the view? Amazing! My only tweaks and they don't affect my star rating: 1. Staff/service can almost be intrusive at times--too much of a good thing. 2. You so have to sign your visitors into the hotel front desk, and there is a time limit on their length of stay (I think it's 3 hours) or you will incur an additional fee. 3. Hotel does not like to accommodate more than 2 people per room--this hotel is NOT for groups. 4. I have traveled all over the world staying in hotels with 5 star ratings to 1 star ratings, but I have never seen a hotel as tip-driven as this one. Tips are strongly encouraged and promoted--it is almost overbearing--and their suggested tip rate for staff which is paid in one lump sum at end of stay? 15-20 percent of your total room cost (including tax and incidentals). I have never heard of this before and I think that it can place hotel guests in a very uncomfortable position, particularly if they don't use/call the staff for anything during their stay. If your two day stay is $600, for example, taxes and incidentals included, they expect you to tip $120. I would suggest that the hotel tone down this tipping culture a bit. It is an anomaly in the international hotel industry. However, overall it is a phenomenal place!

Yelp
This was our fourth visit to Casa Cupula. The first three years were four to five stars. This year it was two stars. There were a total of four of us, two couples in two separate rooms. My husband and I had the Penthouse Suite which is the most expensive and usually the nicest room. This year we had a hot tub that remained lukewarm the entire trip. When we arrived it was empty. We had difficulty with their apple TV and their stereo speakers. The room was terribly disappointing after the years of having an enjoyable experience. We attended an event at the hotel that was a disaster. The service was bad and outright insulting as one point in which they asked us to move tables so they could seat another group at their preferred seating. Our friends in another room had a door that would not close and they had to sleep one night with a chair up against the door. We wondered what might be going on at the resort as the staff seemed tense and irritable. In the past that had not been the case. We could not figure it out until we sent in the feedback to the owner Don. When Don received the feedback which was objective, outlining what we were disappointed in and what felt to be satisfactory. He responded with a defensive, hostile e-mail in which he took no responsibility for his resort's misgivings and in fact he said he was "hurt" by our feedback. That seemed to help us understand where the problem lies - in the ownership. He is clearly a reactive, angry man. If he treats his clients this way, he must be difficult to work for which explains the demoralized staff. In the past we recommended this place to friends, colleagues and clients. After this experience, we strongly would not recommend this place. We were open to understanding what might have happened but when the owner responded as he did, we knew there was no chance we could work out what occurred. It is saddening. Our attempt at resolving the issue was met with such hostility that we felt the entire vacation was tainted by this experience. Very unfortunate.
