Casa da Calçada (Amarante, Norte) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"An hour inland from Porto, along the banks of the River Tâmega, is the historic city of Amarante, among whose well-preserved treasures is the 16th-century Baroque palace that’s now the Casa da Calçada. And while the house itself has been lovingly preserved, its 35 rooms and suites feel free to express their 21st-century personalities — the look is crisp, contemporary, a minimalist counterpart to the palace’s maximalist grandeur." - Tablet Hotels

Arriving at Casa da Calçada was a bit confusing due to the local festivities, but from the moment I arrived, I felt I was at a hotel that truly cares about every detail to make you feel welcome, comfortable, and relaxed. I was impressed by how attentive and detail-oriented the staff were, and the level of service was excellent. The property is very well maintained, and even though there was some noise at night from outside celebrations, it didn’t take away from the overall experience. This is definitely a 5-star hotel and one I would highly recommend.

The hotel facilities, especially the indoor pool and spa was exceptional. The recent full refurbishment of this hotel is excellent. The outdoor terrace is fantastic for drinks. A truly luxurious experience, supported by wonderfully friendly staff. Use the hotel's electric bicycles to go for a cycles along the river. Breakfast was wonderful, too! Only criticism: Its hard to know where to go when you arrive. Some information before arrival would have been helpful. (You need to pull up to the big wooden gate and press the intercom)

Wow!! This hotel was newly renovated and the pictures I had seen when booking does not do it justice. We had a truly amazing experience staying here with everything from the level of service, the cute little town, the views, the pool, having our room upgraded . After arriving we quickly changed our travel plans so we could stay an extra night at this beautiful hotel.

This hotel is a true gem nestled in a charming and picturesque town. Impeccably restored with an eye for elegance and detail. The staff were exceptionally warm, attentive, and welcoming, making our stay all the more enjoyable.||The gardens are stunning and serene, offering a perfect place to unwind, while the terrace provides breathtaking views of the river. The spa facilities and pool are equally impressive, adding a touch of luxury to the experience.||We created unforgettable memories here as a family—an experience we’ll treasure for years to come.

This place was beautiful, the service was amazing, everything was quite perfect and very beautiful. It’s not 5 stars for a few reasons: my view was of the wall, not very pretty from the room. I hated how hot it was when I’d get back in there and when I’d leave a key in the cleaners would take it out. Didn’t help cool the room and the baby was difficult about the heat. The pool and amenities are beautiful but we got all cloudy/rainy days and the pools are not warm. They’re quite cold, taking away from relaxation. Lastly, the restaurant menu was delicious. But the chicken options were quite dry. The drinks are amazing starting with the mango explosion and espresso martini. All the women working there are incredible at their job, and they all communicate very well. They have a pillow menu so you can try out different ones. My favorite was the electric bikes you could use at anytime. The views are incredible and they even have their own vineyards and brut champagne. The tv in the room should be able to connect to apps but it doesn’t work. YouTube and Netflix don’t work unfortunately so didn’t get to use it. I would 10000% come back again. I wish I could remember the two ladies that helped me, they are amazing. The lady with the suit amazing. The lady at breakfast who kept bringing me mayo and the baby blueberries was great at attention to detail and being so sweet. Thank you. You can walk the vineyard and climb the castle they had too.

Google
Absolutely phenomenal hotel. Staff is remarkable.... one night the manager gave us his own umbrella as the front desk had none left. The day we flew out they packed us a breakfast for the car ride because we were leaving before the standard room delivery hours. The property is meticulously kept, the staff is friendly, and we were upgraded to a lovely suite for free. I highly recommend this property.

Beautifully updated & decorated historic hotel. Outstanding, friendly service from all staff, whether front desk or restaurants. Michelin starred restaurant unforgettable. Fabulous food with concentrated flavors & superbly attentive staff. Worth a special trip to Amarante, which is a very enjoyable, historic town.

Yelp
Wonderful historic location. Our room was near the service road and diesel fumes were not good. Great restaurant and excellent staff. Recommended

Yelp
This property is located in Amarante which is about 1 hour drive from the Douro wine region... the hotel is very nice in a nice setting. We did arrive and it looks like a Relais Chateaux... we were welcomed and got a pretty nice room... decor is on the classic old style, and we were expecting that.... Our room had a balcony that overlooked the River and the Church that was quite nice.. Room, The bed could improve as well as pillows and duvet... they could also refresh the rug in the room... even thouhg there was a lot of fabric around, I did not smell anything odd, and I am VERY picky on odors... that could not be said about the corridors of our 4th floor... it did smell odd. Lighting in the room was defecient as most hotels and trying to charge your electronics was a nightmare... once you turned your lights out, it would cut the power of your devices as well, so we had to charge in the bathroom. Bathroom was on the ok side... shower was also on the good side. The bathrobe needs a replacement as it was harsh and over-used... Staff in the lobby could be nicer.... Breakfast in the dining room was very good... great service there! As for the restaurant, I will post a review of its own as it does deserve a star in the Michellin book!!! The gardens outside are quite nice... they needed some care though.. All in all, it was a good hotel and missing some details to maintain the R.C. status in my opinion.... Enjoy

Yelp
Staying at luxurious Casa de Calsada has been very pleasant. The room is huge with a separate living room and a marble bath, plus a walk in closet. The dining room service has been exquisite, both for dinner and breakfast. The food is gourmet, with incredibly dense flavours. With the Couvert, adorable appetizers are ample and a lovely sweet treat is presented at the end of the meal. The wine selection is quite good and reasonably priced.
