Found this gem of spot for dinner from a local. I was dining alone and ate at the counter. Made friends quickly. Friendly atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed every bite. My wine choice, Vinho Verde which was a perfect pairing with my shrimp sautéed with garlic & olive oil. …and of course the bread for dipping the tasty sauce. Savory. Simple, yet each ingredient fresh, zingy and treat for your taste buds. Authentic fresh delicious Portuguese food. Relax atmosphere. A must go to if you find yourself in Lisbon Portugal. 🇵🇹

Google
Highly recommend this local spot! If you’re visiting Portugal, you absolutely have to try the seafood — and this place is a perfect choice. The dishes were fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly affordable. I can’t comment on the meat, but when in Portugal, seafood is a must, and this restaurant does it right. Also, don’t miss the red sangria — it was excellent. A great local experience — definitely worth a visit!

Google
Probably my favourite restaurant in Lisbon. Full of life and local and chaotic, flavourful fish and well balanced with potatoes and vegetables. I had sardines, like a proper tourist visiting Portugal. Absolutely recommended to everyone who wants to enjoy a truly local environment and doesn't mind crowded and noisy places.

Google
Delicious food - haven’t been able to eat for days and this was just the right level of home cooked type of food to get my appetite back up again. Staff were all very friendly too. Went early by Portuguese standards (6:30PM) and had no wait.

Google
Great food with large portions. But it was too crowded and they charged more than priced for no reason, which was a bit annoying. They miscalculated the number of breads as well and charged more. That was not a lot of money but it made you feel not so good.

I visited this Indian restaurant last year during a trip to Lisbon and it was an amazing experience. The food was delicious and well presented, and the waitress was incredibly kind and friendly. I liked it so much that I went back again before leaving. Highly recommended!

Google
We had a quick dinner here during our trip in Portugal. When we sit in, there's bread ready on most of the tables with variety of the butter next to them, we didn't need bread so we just left it there. The bread seemed like not free as we could see there's the bread price on the menu, so bear in mind with it. We ordered sausage rice & grilled chicken rice. We liked the rice wasn't just plain white rice. For the sausage, it's a bit salty especially after a while you eat it, it felt too salty. Grilled half chicken was ok, could taste the grilled flavor bit the chicken itself was a bit dried. Overall, the restaurant was ok, a bit crowded between tables. The foods we had were bit disappointed, don't have much comment for them.

Good spot near the centre of the city. Sardines were very nice. Didn’t feel like a tourist trap.

Yelp
Pretty good food! Although the name says India, this is NOT Indian food. It's Portuguese food! The clams were delicious, although very small (and not too salty!). The seabass was flavorful, with a little sea salt added on the skin. The octopus salad was also pretty good, although I think I prefer warm octopus. I wouldn't get the grilled chicken here, which was a little on the dry side.

Yelp
Try to make Reservations. Very busy Small Restaurant. They pack you in like Sardines. Staff is very kind. They try to help. But this restaurant is so busy. Be ready to wait to get in or to be Served. Very Local Traditional Cuisine to Lisbon. We ordered soup to start. Grilled Sardines and Grilled Octopus to share. Felt it wasn't enough for four we added the Grilled PorkChop meal. Which came with Rice and Fries. Added a Side of House Veggies and Rice. Food was very good for the value.

Yelp
Our first night in Lisbon we were pretty darn tired by the time we had to decide on where to eat for dinner so we took the advice of our tour guide and tried Casa da Índia. I knew as soon as we walked up to the window we were gonna like this place - since the grill is right there as you walk in the door. This was an interesting place for our first meal as you can either sit up at the bar or you sit a cagey type tables where you might be seated right next to a stranger. We chose the tables and had fun briefly chatting with another family (they were from Italy). We ordered some wine and for our meals I had the grilled shrimp and Wifey had a small steak. My shrimp (and fries) were delicious...not sure of the seasoning but it was really quite amazing. Wifey's steak was tender and cooked perfectly. Sorry - no pics so you'll just have to trust me...this was a great little gem of a restaurant.

Yelp
Unpretentious and boisterous. Patient waiters, but fast service. Fresh and very delicious seafood and draft beer at very fair (to me) prices. My family of 10 ate our fill of grilled sardines, octopus, whole shrimps and grouper; veal cutlet and piri-piri chicken; razor clams sauteed in garlic butter, and a few snails from a neighboring table.

Yelp
This place is a little gem !!! Many locals are recurrent costumers. That but itself says a lot . Usually, you have to wait outside until there is vacancy. The wait is sooo worthy it !! There was one server for the entire restaurant .. he was busy !!!! But somehow he managed to serve us well. I had branzino twice and it was delicious. We tried octopus, seafood soup, which was kinda like a stew, corn, sardines, and other items. There was not one thing that was not delicious.

Yelp
This was the first stop on a walking food tour of Lisbon, and WOW!!! We started with some grilled chicken. My husband, who is not a chicken fan, thought it was wonderful. It was cooked perfectly and the flavor was delightful. Our second entry was grilled sardines. Now, I am not really a fan of sardines that you can get in the States, but this was delicious. And finally, we had some "fast food" which was the grilled pork cutlet sandw

Yelp
After our day trip to Sintra, we asked our tour guide where we could find a really great, authentic Portuguese restaurant in Lisbon, particularly the Bairro Alto area. He suggested we try Casa da Índia, where he told us a lot of people really enjoy the grilled meat, but he actually prefered the seafood. So, naturally, we got both! It was already pretty busy, which is always a good sign, but we were able to grab a couple of seats at the bar. There's a menu in Portuguese, English, and French. We strayed away from the Portuguese chicken, which is popular at home, and, instead, got the mixed grill and the sardines. We got some bread alone with our bottle of white wine while we waited, as more people packed in and the grillmaster in front of the window pumped out orders in-house and for take-out. The mixed grill was all meat and came with beef, sausage, and a few different cuts of pork, with fries and rice pilaf. The sardines were also grilled and came with potato and salad. I found a couple slices of the pork were so thin that they were a little overcooked, but flavor was great, and the sausage was probably my favorite out of the different meats. The sardines were salty, of course, and really hit that craving. In hindsight, our shared meals would have maybe gone better with a nice, cold beer. The portions were much larger than I had anticipated for the price, and more food than my brother and I really needed. We debated about getting a chicken to go, but that was just getting greedy and gluttonous :) I know there are mixed reviews, but it's worth a try, especially when it's so popular with locals, and it's a good bang for your buck! Another plus - open until 2am!

Yelp
Right around the corner from our Airbnb the place was a jewel. We arrived as they opened for lunch at noon. We were there early enough to sit by the window. We had the cod and vegetables. The were both very good. Planning on going back tomorrow.

Yelp
I came here during my solo trip to Lisbon. As always when I am traveling I am on the hunt for that cultures home dish. I was on the hunt for cuttlefish and this place had it for a great price! Cuttlefish is a squid like calamari. Theirs was grilled, I was looking for something fried. However it was decent, I guess that's how the Portuguese do it (grilled) haha. While in the restaurant a local offered me some of his dish which was fries, chicken and rice. It was all good together, my first time eating fries and rice together. Clearly the hospitality was great here. You have the option of sitting at a table or at the bar top. The spot is cosy but was filled with people so I take that as the food is good here. I would definitely come back and try other menu options. @therichaunt

Yelp
Stand in line for this diner meets grilled Mediterranean delight. Sit at the counter while sipping ur red wine neatly poured in a milk glass and patiently watch the "chef" churn the coals to the perfect grilling temperature before flash grilling your sardines and octopus combo. Oh, and the price will leave you with enough for some pastels down the street.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for some bacalhau. The line to get in was pretty long. Luckily I was by myself so I got to sit at the bar. The fish is cooked fresh and they give you pan with spread as you wait. The bacalhau was traditionally prepared, grilled, salty, and dripping in olive oil. The dish came with steamed vegetables and potatoes. Good place for bacalhau!

Yelp
This place was conveniently 3 blocks from our Airbnb, so we came here 2x in 3 days to try all their seafood. Over two meals, we ordered grilled sea bass, seafood rice, gambas ahilo (fried shrimp in garlic), gambas cocinado (boiled, chilled shrimp), grilled sardine, clams, and Portuguese sausage. Highly recommend the grilled sea bass, garlic shrimp and seafood rice. The gambas cocinado was just average, the Portuguese sausage had a unique taste that must be acquired, and the clams and grilled sardines were not good at all. The clams were full of sand to the point that they were impossible to eat. The grilled sardines had good flavor, but were very fishy and so full of bones that eating was difficult too. This place has a great local vibe, shoulder to shoulder seating at the tables and plenty of cheap drinks. Be sure to try the Portuguese green wine--to me it just tasted like a slightly more sour white wine, but it's a local specialty.

Yelp
This is a local, no-frills spot to have dinner at. The food is simple and inexpensive, yet very good. Get here early because it fills up quickly.

Yelp
Brilliant mom and pop diner in the heart of Lisbon. Food was dope. Service was excellent. Will be back again!

Yelp
We were recommended this place by our Air bnb the day we arrived, and looked really attractive from the outside (fishs and meats on the grill, looked authentic and familial). We waited 5 mins to get a table, we ordered the grilled cod and the mixed grill, both really good. Cod was a bit oily, and the mixed grill was really heavy, but definitely worth it!

Yelp
This was our last dinner in Lisboa and I'm sure glad your CM, Alexandre, suggested this place! Big thank you!!! We came early, cuz we are from North America and we eat dinner early compared to basically all of Europe. Anyways, we were seated at these tables where you're pretty much side by side with other patrons. No problem. We met this really cool couple who had told us they ate here 3 dinners in a row because the octopus was just THAT good. I knew then and there I was going to order the octopus. Service wasn't particularly friendly or informative. After what seemed like a very long wait, we ordered and were very much looking forward to our dinner. Oh right, we chose a grilled fish too. The octopus itself was worthy of five stars. Perfectly grilled and simply seasoned but full of flavour and great texture. Loved it! The fish was well seasoned and tasted good too. I wish our service was better because I would've easily given this place 5 stars. Maybe we should've come here 3 nights in a row because our neighbouring friends were pretty much treated as regulars! I still highly recommend this place for a solid meal of grilled anything!

Yelp
This was my favourite restaurant during our short weekend in Lisbon. We got to go to a number of really nice, fancy and delicious restaurants. Still, it was this humble restaurant which buzzed with the real citizens of Lisbon and authentic tastes and smells of the cuisine. The sardines and potatoes were in season and especially flavourful. The sardines were grilled to perfection.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant. Good portuguese food, nice portions, and excellent prices. The waiter was very friendly. I had fried fish with açorda (typical Portuguese dish) and It was yummy.

Yelp
I wanted to give a negative star, anyway. Pros: Absolutely NOTHING Cons: 1. Disgusting food 2. Disgusting service We ordered sardine fry and pork chop, after 20 mins they came up with the dish. The fish was extremely salted we could not able to take single bite so we asked the waiter and told him the problem. He said okay no problem let me see. We started eating the pork chop but it was so rubbery could not able to eat at all. After 15 mins he came and give us the same plate of fried sardine but they might have cleared the fried fish with water to get rid of that excess salt, wtf!!! Disgusting. At that moment we just paid the bill and came out. Overall: awful experience. Yuck!

Yelp
After reading local reviews, we went here for dinner 3 nights out of 4 while in Lisboa. Cheap, delicious, greatt variety, seafood, chicken, salad, whatver you wanted. I had the portugese chicken substituited with salad instead of fries/chips. Chicken was soft, juicy & moist! Not dry at all. It was fresh of the grill. Not a fancy place but if on a budget, great place with lots of locals here. Skip the dessert, not the best but so so. Menu is also available in english.

Yelp
Despite the name, this place serves Portuguese food. We came here based on a recommendation by our Airbnb host and we were a bit disappointed with the food. I have never had Portuguese food before so this was my first time and I'm not a fan of it. To start, we had the Portuguese soup. It was something that was not appetizing to look at and not appetizing to eat. It was super salty and composed on cut up bread soaked in soup and raw egg white spread across the top. Slimy and salty - enough said. For the entrees, we had the grilled sardines and the grilled pork. The sardines were simply done where it was just lightly salted on the grill and came with some potatoes. The pork was nice and tender, though the I hoped the skin would have been more crispy. It came with fries. All in all, both of the entrees tasted alright. Prices were reasonable at this restaurant. However, it is definitely something I won't yearn for when I come back to Lisbon.

Yelp
This place doesn't look like anything at all when you pass by it in the streets, you probably won't go in unless you know if its reputation. The food is nevertheless great: generous portions, fresh seafood, good price. We had the braised cod (beware of fish bones!) and the grilled half chicken (do not take the full chicken, the portion is gigantic!) Service can be fast and impersonal, but that's just the European way. Side note; the bread, spreads and olives on the table are extra.
google avatar

Yelp
this place was on my list from yelp and then when we went on our walking tour our tour guide also recommended it, so obviously we had to go. We walk in and there are men with their jackets hanging, a policeman at the counter, and it's PACKED at 2:30 on a thursday. these are all good signs! At our table there was a spanish couple, us, and a french couple and the waiter spoke to all of us in our respective native languages. We ordered sardines and cod and both preferred the cod surprisingly! but you must try sardines at least once in lisbon, it's their thing. 2 meals and drinks was 20 euro so it's super economical.

Yelp
Hefty portions. Good Portuguese (not Indian) food. Stark atmosphere. The portions seem be large enough for 2 people. We split the curried chicken. It was OK. Not spicy enough for me. + Service is friendly and efficient. + Low prices. - The lighting is really bright and too hot at 4000°K. - Cheap paper napkins. - Cheap flatware. - Noisy. - Tables are crowded together. This was our least favorite meal in Lisboa.

Yelp
Very local feeling type of place in the middle of a touristy part of Lisbon. Best value for money in the area. Great food and reasonable prices. Definitely recommend! Fish and seafood dishes we got were excellent.

Yelp
No frills, locally favorite, dine-in or take-away restaurant. First thing, do not expect Indian food. What am I taking about? Go back and read the name of the establishment. I'll wait. Second, expect traditional Portuguese food. Although they do have a minimally useful English language version of their local menu, the food comes out to the tastes of the neighborhood. For me, this meant saltier or sweeter meals than my usual comfort. As my expectation for Indian food already died as soon as I entered the restaurant and the punches that are Indian spices did not come, I learned quickly to go with the flow. That meant if the regulars weren't complaining of food being too salty or sweat, then this must be what it should be. Most if not all of the seafood and meats go through the one-man grilled at the very front of the house. The man cooks over a coal pit. The man is efficient. Having visited twice over the past two days, I've seen him make every use of that grill to turn over orders on lightening. How he can grill is amazing! I'm convinced this man made the place.

Yelp
This place is the spot if you want to dine with the locals. Specializes in grilled meat/fish. They have an english menu for tourists. Been here twice, got their popular grilled chicken and traditional Portguese soup 3 days ago. The soup was lovely. The chicken was good, it had a super strong char flavor which i love. Went back for lunch a today and i had the steamed clams and grilled cuttlefish. The clams were so simple and delicious. A squeeze of lemon juice over it and drink the clam juice like its soup. The cuttlefish is grilled whole with the ink and spine still attached. Very tender. Served with an onion parsley oil. Super tasty. Keep in mind the service is not fine dining. Its super duper casual. Come with an open appetite and nothing more, you will be pleased.

Yelp
Very original portugese restaurant. The food is tasty, fresh and the portions lush. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is quite special. We went there again and had a fish soup, the grilled squids and the seafoodcurry. The squids were deliscious, but the curry was fantastic! (the small portion is a normal portion, can't imagine how the big one is)
google avatar

Kathryn D.

Yelp
This place was packed to the gills when we were here but we realized that if you sit at the bar, you don't have to wait in line, WIN! The food was delicious, the staff was friendly but busting tail to keep up with the packed restaurant, and the atmosphere was very alive. This is a bit like a diner in set up and portion sizes. We left super satisfied and found the food quality/portion to be of a good value. This is located in the *heart* of the tourist district which is a bit of a downside. I imagine there is always a line.
google avatar

Kelsy Q.

Yelp
Authentic Portuguese cuisine! You can eat here for less than $10 and their fish is fresh as can be. I absolutely love their carapuzinhos and pretty much everything they do here. Try to go later than 12pm since the place gets really packed for lunch.

L S.

Yelp
He alenteja soup was really good. It was my first time having it and I enjoyed the fresh cilantro. The grilled codfish with potatoes and salad was pretty good. It was probably the saltiest fish I've ever had and was hard to finish because of this. But the olive oil it came with (a bottle out on the table) was nice. The restaurant is nothing fancy but the price is right. Locals seemed to eat here.
google avatar

Kyle I.

Yelp
This was probably one of the blandest dishes I have ever had. Cod tasted more like sea water than cod, vegetables we're not seasoned just steamed.
google avatar

Amelia M.

Yelp
Codfish was delicious, chicken was a little over cooked. Waited a long time for our food. Waiter was not very happy that we decided to sit on the same side. Wine is very cheap and food portions are big. Half a portion of grilled chicken was more than enough for one person.
google avatar

Luka P.

Yelp
Looking for a nice place? Typically Portuguese? With nice fish, meat and seafood grilled? This is the place to go. Very cheap and very popular, you will need to be patient before having a seat. I recommend you to try it for lunch since for dinner the line could be toooo long.
google avatar

Tammy T.

Yelp
We were walking around Bairro Alto and noticed how packed this restaurant was, so we decided to give it a shot! It seemed like a family owned place, which added to its charm. We ordered the sea bass (came with boiled potatoes and green beans), suckling piglet, and flan. It was simple and traditional Portuguese fare. Our entire meal with two beers was less than €25. It was good but wasn't anything special.
google avatar

Merve C.

Yelp
Very low key local environment. Delicious Portuguese dishes and such friendly staff! Definitely try the chicken or octopus!
google avatar

Ale C.

Yelp
Best place in the city center to get good seefood or chicken for a nice price. It's real Portugal right here. Love it.

Rob R.

Yelp
I found this place on a YOUTube video about Lisbon and liked the grilling in the front window, as well as the reviews of the food. Was very happy the place was about two blocks from out lodging. The first night in Lisbon, after a long travel day, we were hungry and tired. We found it (the easiest thing we did on this trip.) I looked through the window. The place is small and it looked like almost all of the tables were taken. As I looked through the front window I saw three seats at the counter and caught the attention of the guy manning the grill, pointed at the 3 counter seats and he waved us in. So we were seated in about 2 minutes. Great start! Paolo was manning the grill, which we were very close to, and he was great! He speaks very good english, has a great attitude about life, and is very good at his job. He obviously loves his work. We know this because we returned two more times. Great food and fun all three times. My highest recommendation. Don't be disturbed by the line that sometimes goes down the street. Tables turn rather quickly. Probably because the food is mostly fresh fish and cooks quickly. Try the cuttlefish, but ask how to deal with it. Tastes like squid but a lot more fun.

Daniel Z.

Yelp
It doesn't look impressive but this is fantastic restaurant. We ordered both seafood and meat grill and were positive on both. For the seafood, the grilled octopus and seafood rice really stood out. Simple yet full of flavor. We ordered the mixed grill and you can really taste the charcoal flavor. Overall, great on a budget and really fantastic food and price. One last hint, be nice to staff as they're not afraid to cold shoulder you if you're obnoxious (as we saw with a particular bachelorette party).

John T.

Yelp
Even though this place is mentioned in all the guide books and even though the quality can be highly variable (hand cut fries one night, mass produced frozen ones the next) I still like it. I like it because it comes by its grime honestly -- through hard work.
google avatar

Boris K.

Yelp
Very basic place (definitely not 'nice' as some other reviewer claimed') with "home cooking" style food. Very typical Portuguese, cheap and great, honest food. Had a sole from the BBQ which was perfect. The accompanying spinach was cold and not really a revelation but you don't go to these kind of places for the veggies, do you? That being said, the salad was actually very nice - but that's not hard to do, as long as you use fresh and tasty products (you are provided with oil and vinegar to create your own dressing). The place is open for lunch as well.
google avatar

Eoin M.

Yelp
It's been a good few years since I have been in Lisbon and I can still remember this place fondly. We went in on a Saturday and it was packed out. Food was good simple Portuguese fair and the staff were run off their feet it was so busy. The joy of this restaurant is in the mix of people that frequent it. There was a great mixture of characters in the place and in my opinion a great venue to both people watch and chat to the person next to you (you are squished in). It's no frills but has a great charm to it. Don't bother going if your not prepared to rub shoulders.

Edward T.

Yelp
Great nice little place with a very charming atmosphere. The nice grill is perfect and allows to enjoy some fresh fish at a fair price...have the Matilde Douro white wine. Expect to spend roughly EUR 20 per person for some good and simple food.

Pam P.

Yelp
We decided to go try this place since we saw a lineup outside and thought it must be really good but opted for the next day at lunch hour. We ordered the grilled chicken which is cooked over a charcoal stove. The chicken was dry, the rice was hard.... And service terrible. I don't know why people line up for his place we had so much better eats around Lisbon for less.

G L.

Yelp
it is a cheap spot to eat in an area overrun with more expensive options. stick to the grill options. order stuff a la carte (no set prato complets) and you'll be satisfied. i recommend the grilled sardinhas and chicken (frango) with sides of asparagus. if you're like me and tend to over order because the prices look like the portions will be small, trust me and go slow. start with one grilled dish per person. order more if you're still hungry.
