Casa de Hilario, Yaiza, Lanzarote, Canary Islands - Explore & Book

"Converted from an 18th-century cottage, this pretty white property looks like a normal family abode, albeit an affluent one, with a pretty bougainvillea-draped terrace gazing out towards the sea. But behind the facade lie 10 fun and flamboyant rooms and suites, combining bold colours and contemporary fittings with touches of Canarian rustic. It's compact yet stylish accommodation for those seeking peace, solace and a central base for island exploration. And it's all extremely good value. This boutique guesthouse is close enough to walk into Yaiza village, but far enough out to be classified as a rural residence. Trekking and mountain biking trails are literally on the doorstep. Pretty hilltop villages, volcanic vineyards and gorgeous beaches are just a short drive away. Highs The small swimming pool, heated from NovemberA spectacular location with village, ocean and mountain views, and handy for Papagayo beaches, Timanfaya and La Geria vineyardsYaiza: a pretty village of sugar-cube houses and palm-fringed plazas There’s a splendid bodega restaurant right next door, and although it’s a short drive away, sister property La Casona de Yaiza has one of the best restaurants on the islandRooms are good value - this is an ideal place to stay if you're hoping to keep costs down but don't want to compromise on style Lows This is a guesthouse not a hotel, so service is intermittent and it's essential you let José know your planned arrival time in advanceNo restaurant or bar, though breakfast is served and tea - and coffee-making facilities are availableAlthough there's free WiFi, thick stone walls make connecting with hyperspace a hit-and-miss experience in some roomsThe bold interior colours may not be to everyone's tasteRecent feedback suggests rooms can be cold and the village very quiet out of season" - Joe Cawley

The marriage of Canarian architecture with funky art is unique and interesting. It is located on the outskirts of Yaiza in a beautiful spot; the view from my room was enjoyable. Check-in experience was a horror, as I arrived at noon to a "ghost" house in an isolated area with nobody answering the bell nor the phone. Without informing me, it turns out that the check-in person is based in its sister hotel La Casona de Yaiza, at the opposite end of the town; this procedure is truly inconvenient and not customer friendly. Nonetheless, the staff are friendly and responsive when called upon for the problems I encountered. But it is the nightly rate charged here than render this place an excellent value.

We booked directly with the hotel in July. We tried to cancel our reservations two months before our scheduled stay and they refuse to accept our cancellation without charging us 100%. I have attached their written policy we received via email after booking. It clearly states 50% refund until one week prior to arrival. I have no idea what this hotel is like, but I question their ethics and honesty. Think carefully before booking, as they appear to not honor their own policy.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Lovely/quiet place. Spacious room. I booked with breakfast included// selection is simple but covers all the essentials. The hotel is located a short drive from the airport and parking is allocated per room. Good spot to stay if you are looking to explore all parts of the island. The local town 2min a drive away and has plenty of restaurants/pharmacy etc. Would stay again, thank you!

We spent two weeks at Casa de Hilario in Feb/March. The house is a traditional rural house outside the village of Yaiza in the centre of Lanzarote. Our bedroom was large and comfortable with views to the village and one of the many small volcanic peaks. Breakfasts were buffet style and self service, with tables indoors and outdoors on the large garden terrace. The food was fresh and the service from Lucia was excellent. The house was unstaffed in the afternoons and evenings and there was no bar or coffee facilities, which we missed. The guests all learned to stock up on snacks and drinks in the local supermarket. There is a good, traditional restaurant (Bodega de Santiago) next door for those who don't want to travel too far to eat, though our favourite restaurant was the nearby, sister property Casona de Yaiza which was excellent (we ate there four times). A good base for travelling around the island and will suit those who seek peace and tranquility in a lovely village. Not so good for those seeking a lively nightlife.

This is an absolutely lovely hotel with a terrace thar has a wonderful view of the mountains opposite and the sea in the distance. It is beautifully designed with a beautiful artistic hallway and each room individually designed. The bedrooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are great with nice powerful showers. There is an excellent buffet breakfast served each morning. The whole ambience is so cosy and welcoming. The Casa de Hilario is brilliantly situated, only 26 minutes drive from the stunning Timanfaya National Park and around 25 minutes drive from the stunning Papagayo beach and surrounding beaches. I would stay here again without a second thought!

Stayed in one of the suites… Quirky furnishings and decor in the room and bathroom…the volcanic rock bathroom was amazing…Outside there was a nice private terrace with table and chairs but only 1 very old and worn sun lounger. |Breakfast was delicious and plentiful but the lack of availability of coffee and tea before breakfast service was surprising given that there were no facilities in the room to make any.|There’s a lovely communal lounge and outside tables and chairs, there’s a communal fridge with a basket per room for your own personal goods so in the evening it would have been perfect to sit and have supper and a drink but there were no glasses, plates, cutlery to use… they were all locked away in cupboards until breakfast !!!! |Hilario is in such a beautiful quiet location, perfect for exploring the island but sadly it’s lacking in simple things and a personal touch that are always available everywhere else we have stayed. |We had no contact from the owners after our arrival.|Given that we paid 117 euros a night for 7 nights we feel our experience wasn’t what we expected or value for money.

We spent 5 days at Casa Hilario. We had a beautiful stay there and we can only recommend it. It’s quiet, peaceful, relaxing and calming. The view over the fields and the villages with their white houses is so nice. ||The rooms have individual design, the bed is huge and the bathroom is very cool. It’s a mix between modern and traditional architecture.||The plants and trees around the house are all very pretty. We enjoyed a lot spending the afternoon in the shadow of the trees in the courtyard or eat breakfast on the terrace.

The Casa de Hilario was a pleasant place to stay. There are in fact ten rooms, most of which are on the ground floor and most of those surround the courtyard. One or more ground floor rooms face outwards not inwards. Upstairs there are two rooms, one is a small one with no patio or balcony (might be room 1 or 7). The other is room 10 and is enormous with a patio and fridge (no cava in ours, just water) and fantastic views. I thought it was cleaned very well but no change of towels. Breakfast was average - certainly good enough for us. The restaurant next door is a bit expensive and the menu a bit limited but it is in an equisite setting. Yaiza itself I thought was a bit on the dull side. We couldn't actually find the other restaurants. We did call into the sister hotel one day but it was too far to walk to. Directions to both hotels were pretty bad. The Casa Hilario is next door to a well-signposted Bodega de Santiago and near a petrol station.||The hotel had wifi but it didn't work very well.
