Casa de Sao Mamede Hotel

At the start of our 3 week vacation in Portugal, we stayed in this hotel the nights of October 11-12, 2024. This was prior to checking into our cruise base hotel as it was much cheaper. This is a wonderful older hotel close to the happening areas of the city (including the Avenida Liberdale). We walked from this hotel to stores, restaurants and tourist sites. Easy walk to the Hop On-Hop Off Bus area. We were able to check in early and the staff were very friendly. It is an older hotel, but well kept, clean and with a cozy atmosphere. Our room was plenty large, the beds very comfortable and all the amenities needed were provided. The breakfast area was very nice and the food was excellent. In fact, the toasting bread was the best we had on our whole trip, surpassing the selections we had in all other hotels and our cruise boat. Highly Recommended!

The best value-price related hotel I ever been. The service was 6 stars if I can add the kindness of all staff. The equipment is 3 stars hotel rated but due to the quality of the materials and the lookout of them (feels like a XVIII century palace) it is more like a 4-5 stars hotel level.

We stayed at four hotels during a two-week trip, and this was my favorite. The building has so much charm. Having breakfast in the large room overlooking the street made me feel like I was really somewhere, not just in a generic hotel. Also, after waffling about the location (slightly removed from the Baixa), I think it was a good choice--there is a lovely little park nearby, and the neighborhood isn't overrun. The staff was friendly and helpful, and everything was clean. The water and wifi were good. We didn't need the AC, because the open window provided enough ventilation. The walls are thick, but there was some street noise sometimes at night, with the window open. The breakfast was also good, although the coffee is nothing to get excited about.||There were a few inconveniences: It's an old building, and there are few outlets. I had to unplug the bedside lamp to plug in the coffeemaker or to charge a phone. Also, there weren't many places to put things, especially in the bathroom. ||Overall, we were very happy there and will certainly think about staying there again next time we're in Lisbon.

We loved this hotel! It’s older, charming, comfortable. The front desk is 100% available. The breakfast every morning was a great way to start the day. Location is a bit out of the main touristy area, about a 15 min walk, which was great for us. Excellent restaurants, museums, and parks within a couple blocks. They let you operate your own AC temperature. A bonus after long, hot, days. Highly recommend.

It is a beautiful hotel with its decor and tiles. Everybody was super nice and friendly. Very good breakfast. Perfect location. We will certainly come back!

Lovely part of the city. We're glad we selected this hotel. Close enough to the city centre. More locals/few tourists.

Beautiful old building with lots of character. Good location and the staff are friendly & helpful. The breakfast was great, plentiful & was in a lovely quaint dining room. Six friends travelled so we had 3 rooms, all rooms were good. Highly recommend & will definitely return.

The location of the hotel was great. On one side was the Rato Station while on the other side were many great restaurants and view points. It was a great base to see Lisbon from. The service was very friendly and efficient. The hotel itself was historic and rooms were clean. The sink was a little bit too small for me, though. The location being so central did come with some drawbacks. There was a lot of foot traffic outside, and one could hear people leaving their dinner parties well into the night. It was totally fine with me, but might be an issue for those who were more sensitive to noise.

What a wonderful hotel! Staff is very friendly and always at the front desk. The breakfast was very good with a variety of meats and cheeses, bread, coffee and dessert. The room was very comfortable, beautifully decorated and easy to adjust the temperature. It is in the heart of Lisbon so we walked to everything in the area. A lot of shopping, restaurants and museums and churches in walking distance. A 15 minute walk to the train and about 20 minutes to the airport. Highly recommend this clean, convenient and comfortable hotel.

I've stayed here multiple times and i cannot stress this enough: this is the best hotel for someone who loves something different, with a classic look and a luxurious feel. I've read some critics talking about the fact that it doesn't have an elevator for example but upon asking the staff they told me that the city of lisbon doesn't permit changes in the house structure due to the fact that its historic heritage and as so it must be preserved... But i digress. To sum up its a great hotel for someone who is tired of this "modern hotels" or just likes the classical style of this one.
