We stayed four nights, in two different rooms. The room descriptions are accurate as described on the web site. The inn oozes charm and historic character.|The three common areas each have a fireplace. Ample, comfortable, leather couches and chairs promote relaxation and interactions with the inn manager and guests. In fact, our wide-ranging conversations with fellow guests and the information gleaned from David about hikes and sights were as much a highlight as the lovely surrounding landscape and resident herd of pronghorn antelope.|Games, route descriptions, maps, and books abound.|We picked up microwaveable dinners and lunch fixings on our way through Santa Fe and were glad we did. It was more relaxing, after a day of hiking or driving, to have our own dinner on the property. The guest refrigerator is full sized. If you use condiments for sandwiches or Ziplock bags, best to bring your own.

From the beginning of the reservation process through our departure, we felt taken care of. We were greeted warmly by the owner as we pulled up to the portico. Everything in our room was as described. The bed was comfy which was great after a long day of traveling. ||The nightly gatherings in the living room were delightful. Each breakfast was delicious. Having this time to meet the other travelers enhanced our stay. ||The quiet surroundings over one mile off the road truly gave a sense of calm. The views from sunrise to sunset are stunning. ||The time and efforts the owners have put into keeping this historic home authentic to its history is amazing. They are good stewards of this community. ||Dave, Jim and JoAnn, along with their staff are very knowledgeable about the area and it’s history. We felt like we had tour guides for our stay at the Casa.

This B&B hits on all cylinders. Stunning views of mountains and wildlife, amazing service (Amal was outstanding!), and while the Casa is out in the middle of nowhere (kind of the idea), it's a cinch to get to and no float plane or 4X4 necessary to drive right up to the front. And, when you arrive, the staff will be waiting to welcome you and give you a tour.||Rooms, while rustic, is very comfortable (bed, pillows, linens, etc.). The Inn itself is like having full access in front of as well as behind the scenes of an interactive museum. From books, to photos, to art, to architecture, this place has it all! A one night stay is not sufficient to fully appreciate the wealth of options to enjoy at the Casa. ||Furthermore, while I was traveling solo (and enjoyed peace and quiet while diving into a good book next to a warm fireplace in the living room), I would not hesitate to bring my wife and young daughter to join me. In fact, I plan to do so in the future when we can stay more than a couple days. The Casa is a perfect option to act as a base camp for visiting all the richness the area has to offer - Taos, Red River, Angel Fire, and Santa Fe. This will be a future vacation that will be remembered and cherished for a lifetime.

This place is amazing! Right in the middle of the Philmont Boys Scout Camp! My husband attended the leadership training there many years ago and it brought back many memories! Especially, being able to see the Tooth of time mountain top from the Casa’s “backyard “!|David the innkeeper is a wealth of knowledge about places to see and where to eat! Along with Jim and Joanne! It was especially nice and comfortable revisiting the day by the fireplace talking with them!|Anita and Flora made us a delicious breakfast each morning! The coffee was great. The Guest House Suite where we stayed was comfortable and very clean! |Even if you didn’t go to Philmont this place is a gem! Quiet, comfortable and very relaxing!

The hotel was amazing. So beautiful! My wife and I had an amazing time there. What really made the trip was our innkeeper kudos to her!!! She was so nice and professional. She greeted us as we drove up to the hotel and gave us a tour along with a history lesson..... She was always extremely helpful. The whole experience was truly amazing.

Every year I host a retreat at the Casa, and as always, our stay was exceptional. The staff is great, breakfast is delicious, and our setting couldn't be more picturesque. There are walking trails, should you want to partake.|Thanks to all at the Inn!

Amazing stay and location! The scenery around the Casa was amazing - highly recommend the short hike on their on-property two mile loop. Also a nice day-trip location to Taos, Red River, and Cimarron Canyon Park. The staff was very attentive, and the room was fantastic. Just be aware if you go the location is remote - you'll need to have a plan for lunch and dinner (Cimarron is 10 min away, but not a huge choice of food options).

Overdelivered on all expectations. Wonderful! I appreciated the breakfast in particular. I have an egg allergy and was expecting to be underwhelmed... to the contrary! Breakfast was amazing and actually gave me ideas for what to cook for myself.

Yelp
This place is heaven in earth. Very quiet and calm. The courtyard is an oasis with fountains and lovingly tended plants. I could do yoga here for hours. Charming hummingbird feeders feed a busy flock of birds while a fountain burbles in a ivy covered courtyard. The hosts are beyond accommodating: from weird dietary needs ( gluten and dairy free) to helping us with an unexpected car problem, to providing ample ice and great company, Dave and Amy and Debbie were amazing...the rooms were classic old school turn of the century elegance. Wildlife abounds, the library is cozy and welcoming... I could spend my life here. You could write a novel, take a nap... it's heaven on earth. We try to come every year and it's always full of charm And character and welcome!

Yelp
Fantastic getaway spot for a short or long stay. Beautiful views on a historic and peaceful setting. Innkeeper ( Jan) was great and went out of her way to make sure my own and others' stay was enjoyed. PS. Wake up early for excellent sunrises on the front patio and of course enjoy coffee on the adirondack seating outback overlooking Tooth of Time Ridge.

Yelp
This little B&B is well off the beaten path, and that's part of its charm. It was built in the 1920s as a western vacation home for a millionaire and his guests. All the period details have been preserved, so stepping through the front door is like stepping back in time. Everywhere you look there are western paintings and bronze sculptures. My favorite is the stagecoach with six horses fording a river. The courtyard is a lush garden with fountains and hummingbirds. It's the perfect place for meditation, yoga, or a quiet cup of coffee. In the morning and evening you can step outside to find deer and antelope grazing under the majestic Tooth of Time. If you want to experience mountain scenery and western history, then this is the place for you.

Yelp
This house was built over 100 years ago for Jack and Gertrude Nairn in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Cimarron. It provided hospitality to the many artists who were the couples' friends - and continues to do so for modern day travelers. Having travelled throughout the world, I understand that finding a true hidden gem is rare. This is one of them. The beauty of the landscape fills your spirit - the traditional adobe home feels warm and welcoming. Breakfast is always delicious - and the Inn will now be open throughout the year, allowing guests to experience the full range of seasons. I was lucky enough to have stayed here twice - once almost 20 years ago, and once more recently. Both times were magical. Truly - for those traveling with the spirit of wonderment - or those who hope to find it - the Casa del Gavilan will be worth the few extra miles you might travel to discover it.

Yelp
Service and hospitality were excellent! And the added benefit is the absolutely unique location -- one of a kind adobe home on the National Registry of Historic Places. It is truly a gem hidden in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Thanks very much for a wonderful experience!

Yelp
Overpriced. Service was poor. View from room obscured by brush.
