Casa del Jade

We really enjoyed the jade workshop at Casa del Jade. It was a very interesting experience to learn about the importance of jade in Guatemala and see the process behind carving and shaping the stones. It felt educational but still very relaxed and accessible, even for the kids. Our kids actually got to carve their own jade pieces, which made the experience even more special and memorable for all of us. Watching the artisans at work and learning the meaning behind the different types of jade added a lot to the visit. It’s a great activity if you’re in Antigua and want to do something cultural and hands-on while learning more about the country’s history. Definitely a unique experience!

Short interesting tour. Great examples of the different shades of jade like orange and lilac. Bathrooms downstairs but you have to ask them to unlock the door for you. There are items on display and items for sale, and tou can carve your own jade too.

Did a workshop where you create your own piece of jade for jewellery. I had Freddy who walked me around the museum and then David who conducted the workshop who were both amazing. Such a great experience and would recommend to anyone who visits Antigua.

I took a jade carving class here and it was my favorite activity in Antigua! I wasn’t sure what to expect since I’m not very artsy, but the class was a lot of fun and simple enough for beginners. I learned that Guatemala is the only location in the world where you can find lavender jade. I love how my lavender necklace came out!

At the beginning of the tour, they explain the history of jade and its significance to ancient civilizations, as well as its importance to Guatemala. At the end, they gave me a small souvenir. The guides and staff are very friendly, and the shop offers beautiful products at very reasonable prices. The decor creates an artistic and welcoming atmosphere, also perfect for taking great photos.

Extremely neat place. My girlfriend went in looking for jade jewelry and I was pleasantly surprised to see such a nice museum section as well. Not only a good spot to buy high quality jade products, has a great museum section dedicated to jade history. Me being a history enthusiast I loved reading about the Mayan history and seeing Mayan dress ware, jade masks, etc.

I came here for the museum and it was pretty interesting. There are a lot of old artifacts and it is cool to see the history of jade in this country. In terms of the jewelry, I didn't really find anything I thought was worth.

If you are thinking of buying jade anywhere in Antigua, stop thinking and go to this place. I have compared some of the local shops and none comes even close to this place. Not only is it half a museum, it has by far the most professional appearance and store clerks/ craftsmen. You can even see them working on the pieces. Our salesman Fredy Gomez helped us very well in choosing earrings, a necklace and a bracelet. I had the bracelet altered right on the spot for a little fee, which was perfectly fine and done in not even 10 minutes. You get a proper receipt with your purchased goods, in case you need to show it at customs. All in all a perfect experience!
