Hotel Casa do Amarelindo, Salvador, Brazil - Explore & Book

"Bump your way through the colourful cobbled streets, past capoeira dancers, hecklers and hippies, deep into Salvador's Pelourinho district, once the Portuguese capital of Brazil. You’re bang in the middle of a UNESCO World Heritage town, and you’d be mesmerised if you weren't so hot and tired from the journey. Which is why the Casa do Amarelindo is such a glorious respite. Step through its tall archways into a tranquil reception area and let the cool terracotta floor, whitewashed walls and tropical courtyard soothe your mind. Take the lift to your room and enter a totally quiet and sunny space. The vast kingsize bed promises hours of sleep; the air con blows out welcoming cool air. Soundproofed French doors mean you won’t be disturbed by the street noise below, but step onto your balcony and you’ve got the perfect vantage spot for vibrant Bahian life. What’s more, there’s a roof terrace with a panoramic view of Todos os Santos Bay, and a swimming pool to beat the heat. You’re at the heart of the action, yet one step removed. Highs The roof-top swimming pool and bar are an absolute joy, as Salvador can get very humid. At the time of our last visit, Casa do Amarelindo was still the only hotel in the area to offer this Right in the heart of the historic Pelourinho district of Salvador, yet the rooms are beautifully quiet Excellent dinners in the ambient restaurant, plus tasty tapas and cocktails on the roof terrace Friendly service from French owners Gilles and Didier, and the whole of their team Simple but stylish décor, and the entire hotel is well maintained Lows Can be tricky to find and most of the area is blocked off to taxis - the hotel have a company who can operate right to their door, just ask! Pelourinho swarms with touts and tourists in peak season; walking to and from Casa do Amarelindo without being harangued is no mean feat Not recommended for children under 14 - a high for some!" - Liz Simpson

Beautiful little hotel in the heart of historical part of Salvador, in an old colonial house. It has a lot of character and beautifully decorated. The rooms are cozy and the bathroom super comfortable - best shower we had in Brazil. Staff very friendly and kind, they gave us good recommendations. Also we booked a guided tour through the hotel and was very good. Absolutely recommended!

We had two days in Salvador before returning home and were so delighted with the choice we made to stay here. A beautiful restored, boutique style historical hotel with lovely features and very helpful and attentive staff.||The location was just right for us, down the road off the main square, so much going on outside, lots of restaurants to safely walk to in less than five minutes. We felt very safe in the area nearby, there are a lot of police around, a taxi rank in the square, lots of shops and market stalls almost outside, although very quiet at night time, sleep quality for us was great (our room overlooked the busy street).||There is a small pool terrace with glorious views over the coast line and water, something that was gratefully received by ourselves after a hot day exploring Salvador.||The reception staff gave us a map on arrival and marked all the areas to safely visit (and pointed out where not to visit), we were shown around the hotel, the pool, and taken to our bedroom. All the luggage had been taken up on the lift to our room. ||Breakfast is served at the table to you in the charming restaurant with your choice of a main egg dish, yoghurt, choice of cake, ham/cheese, bread, juice and a hot drink. Before we left to return to the UK we ate in the restaurant, we ordered the Angus burger and really enjoyed our last meal in Brazil.||When we left to go home on our late evening flight, we were given towels and shower gel/shampoo/conditioner to use in the changing room in the pool area. Our luggage was stored for us after check-out and the staff couldn't have been any more helpful than they were.||Definitely recommended, thank you for making our last two days in Salvador!

Extremely central in the heart of the old town. Our balcony had a beautiful view over the bay. We also received very good advice and guidance from reception at the outset on where to go and not to go. Staff was very friendly throughout. Taxi's can enter the historic streets and take you to the front entrance. Reception can call a taxi anytime, but we usually walked up to a taxi stand at the end of the street. We felt very safe in the neighborhood.

This hotel is a gem. Staff, facility, location, room.....everything was great! We really had a wonderful time over the New Year. They provided very personalized service of high quality. Located in the centre of Pelourinho and easy access to every attraction, restaurant, and sight of interest. The hotel itself, including our room, was beautiful, and its restaurant was excellent. We highly recommend.

After a long flight from LA we were met at the airport by the Casa do Amarelindo's transportation host. We arrived to the hotel after a pleasant and inexpensive, 30 min drive to the historic Pelourinho district. Old cobblestone streets and landmark squares, filled with people taking in the sights. The pedestrian only streets were occupied by musicians, artist and tourist. From the hotel lobby sitting area they open glass doors that are a few feet above the street and we were treated to a 40 person drumming crew marching past. The front desk is a small marvel ! The check in , day trips, flight changes. The hotel has a fantastic art collection and the front desk and security officer gave me mini lectures on Afro Brazilian culture. Must also thank the staff for my daily Portuguese lesson. The hotel is immersed in all the beauty that is Salvador.|| Our room had huge bed, lovely linens and a view of the bay. The ac kept us cool and we could go out on the patio if we wanted to feel the sun and hear the birds. Before retiring that first day we had drinks at the bar and dinner at the restaurant because it was early the Chef came in an hour early !|The wine selection was very good. The Caipirinha and fish and shrimp moqueca were the best we had in Brazil, we sampled both, in Trancoso, Rio, Iguazu Falls as well as Salvador. The barman knew how everyone liked their|caipirinha , same drink but personalized each one.||The Amarelindo's creators are a delight and were readily available, we chatted about history of the hotel, the art collection and near by towns.|They are supporters of the local arts and sent us to a wonderful Ballet.

Yelp
Amazing staff, dinner menu is amazing. Only thing I would say is I wish the breakfast menu u was better. The scrambled was a bit too 'wet' for me, and the crepes were made from Cassava. Otherwise would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
So charming. Located mere steps from anything you want to see in the Pelourinho (historic aka postcard neighborhood). The staff was very communicative the moment we booked our hotel on a third party site. Cans and Ubers are not allowed to go straight to the hotel so we booked transportation from the airport with the hotel. First time I ever had made name on a placard as I arrived at the airport. The car was very nice, an SUV of some type that dropped us at the front door. Ubers and cabs are allowed to drop off nearby but cobblestone streets can be difficult to navigate with luggage. The lobby is very simple but oozes charm. Checkin was a breeze with us already doing so via email. We liked walking up and down the stairs but some may not and there's no elevator. Room 3 on the scene floor was very spacious! The bed was almost the size of 2 king beds pushed together. A/C was very cold and to our liking. Wood floor were worn but vey clean. The bathroom was the size of the 2 hotels we stayed at in Rio combined. The shower was lager with 4, yes 4!!!!, different shower heads. Handheld. Vertical, waterfall and rainfall big enough to rinse a baby elephant. The pool was small but nice with great views, the same great view from our balcony. We came in contact with many different staff members throughout our stay and they were all amazing. If it had one downside, one single bottle of water per stay.

Yelp
5 estrelas! This may have been one of the most lovely hotels at which I've ever had the pleasure of lying my tired head. Because I know some broken Spanish, which sounds vaguely similar to Portugese I decided to go ahead and give that a try. Thiago, my Brazilian fling (as well as many others) told me that this was a wasted effort, as more Brazilians understand English than they do Spanish and I was making it more difficult on both parties. But I couldn't help trying anyhow. But estrella is estrela, so CLOSE ENOUGH. ".....Tall and tan and young and lovely The girl from Ipanema goes walking And when she passes, each one she passes goes - ah When she walks, she's like a samba That swings so cool and sways so gentle That when she passes, each one she passes goes - ah..." We did indeed come from a visit to Ipanema to visit a much smaller, more quintessential town called Salvador. But the visit to Salvador is just as soothing and pleasant and sweet and halcyon as this song..... A cute little spot nestled in the northern part of Brazil. My friend 'Bama (Lisa) and I met up with Becca (aka Zella) and we stayed at a very cute hotel called Casa Amarelindo. HIGHLY recommend this place. A beautiful roof-top deck with a piscina (pool) and beautiful gardens with cheerful little hummingbirds who happily flounced among the foliage. Here you can take your breakfast, where the very sweet hotel staff provided fresh guava and papaya and some sort of ham and egg dish, as well as cafe' con leche. (For the record, I like my coffee black, but for some reason in South America, I like it with leche.) It really is breath-taking. I am trying to figure out when I'm going to use my travel bennies to go back again.

Yelp
I'm a few years late writing this review, but this place has always stuck out in my mind as magical! My husband and I visited in December 2014 and had a lovely vacation. Room was basic but clean and comfortable. The rooftop infinity pool overlook the harbor is a special treat. Sitting in the pool with a fresh fruit caipirinha handmade by the bartenders and watching the cruise ships come in is one of my all-time favorite memories. Bartenders are wonderful and cut fresh fruit to make your drinks -- time consuming, but worth it! Location in the old town could not be better. Don't skip breakfast -- it's about 1,000 plates of delicious breads, cheeses, meats, fruits, juices, teas, and coffees. Thanks for a wonderful trip!
