Charming setting, but the place needs a facelift.
We spent two amazing weeks exploring Portugal, staying in six different places – and unfortunately, Casa Do Valle was the only one that left us a little bit disappointed. It’s not a bad hotel, but it really needs a refresh. The photos on the website must have been taken quite a few years ago, because they don’t reflect today’s reality.
The location is actually lovely – set on a hillside just below the historic centre of Sintra, with easy access to the main attractions. Free parking behind a gated entrance, and it’s a quiet area with birds singing in the morning.
We booked the “Superior Suite with kitchenette” (room no. 11), which was smaller than we imagined. The kitchenette had a tiny fridge and limited equipment, just enough for a simple meal. The bathroom was small too, but functional. Both the room and the bathroom need some updating.
On the positive side, service was very friendly. Filipa Oliveira greeted us warmly and was helpful during our stay – no complaints there!
Facilities were a bit underwhelming. The outdoor pool didn’t look very inviting – kind of poorly maintained – and there were not enough sun loungers for all guests. This seems like a small fix, especially since there’s space for more. Also, it would have been nice to have a cozy shared area with tables and chairs to enjoy a drink or chat with fellow travellers.
There’s no restaurant or food service on site, though you can pre-order breakfast to your room and buy drinks at the reception during staffed hours (normally 9 to 19). The Wi-Fi was okay, though the signal in our room was weak at times.
In terms of value for money, we felt it didn’t quite match expectations. I’d probably stay elsewhere next time – or at least wait until Casa Do Valle has had a proper facelift.
