Casa Esperanza

Another apartment in Basel Casa Esperanza Guest House with a shared bathroom but this place just seemed more friendly and better equipped with a gracious host (Kai Steinhauer) who even let us do our laundry for free. |Our host in Basel has been great. He apologized for the recommendation of the Thai place which we found closed at first. He loaned us umbrellas since it was raining off and on all day. He was most congenial. Would we recommend the place? In a heart beat.|

The host Kai was extremely nice and super helpful. The room was spacious and the kitchen had more than enough for any needs. We had a shared restroom but that wasn't a problem at all, as we only shared it with another room and we barely saw a person who stayed there. The place is right next to the tram station and upon check-in you get a pass to ride public for free. There is no ac, but they provided a standing fan which worked out great even in the worst heat of July.

I cannot believe there are many better hosts out there than Kai. Fantastic service from start to finish. Super friendly, informative and professional. The place is absolutely fine, comfortable and clean... everything I needed. It is not super central, but so so easy to get to both the airport and the centre by bus or tram. Can't recommend it enough...

It's an "okay" type of budget place. They don't have a reception, so expect to handle the check-in in the hallway. Staff (the family that runs the place) is friendly, helpful and always on site. The room was clean, and the bathrooms were clean as well. The walls are thin, you can hear your neighbors snoring. The kitchen is very well equipped!

Lovely spacious apartment close to tram and bus. Great supermarkets nearby and fantastic cheese shop. Bea and Kai were so helpful, even brought us cake. Tea, coffee & other sundries provided. Facilities were excellent and the apartment was spotless. Thanks for a great stay.

It is fine. It is clean; bed OK, shared bathroom. On arrival we were told which trams t take to get to the centre and other places we wanted to go. A bit surprised that there is no breakfast. A walk of 5 minutes brings you to a place where you can have that. Tea and coffee in the room and a very small TV-set. As I said: basic. Bit clean.||||By the way: the picture of the kitchen? We didn't see it. We stayed in a room downstairs with a shared bathroom.

Clean, inviting apartment was our base as we stayed in Basel for a few days. The hosts were very welcoming. We opted to cook our dinners in the apartment and had plenty of room for that and local markets to purchase supplies/food.||The location let us explore old town Basel and the Rhine area without having a car. Bea gave us a Basel City card which allowed us discounts on events and access to the public transportation system with lower costs. We scheduled a driver to pick us up and take us for a Black Forest Tour one day, too.

I am really surprised I am the first one to review this place on trip advisor.||This place is a truly gem, it is clean, it is not far from the centre, really nice owners and in a quiet place.||We had a room on the ground floor, we shared the bathroom and toilet with a room near ours, and it is still very private because you have a door and a private "entrance" to both of the rooms.||Very clean, comfortable bed and you have dishes you can use- helps if you plan buy food in the grocery store.||And the price is amazing! We paid 180 CHF for two nights, this is a very good price for Basel.||So I really recommend this place (and it is the same like in the photographs they have on booking).
