Casa Frankie

Casa Frankie delivers what it promises for the price. It’s a clean place, and the backyard offers a welcome sense of privacy. The pool appears well maintained and unlikely to pose any hygiene concerns, although I’ve seen pools elsewhere with clearer water. The location is a real highlight: centrally placed and atmospheric, it gives you the feeling of stepping back 200 years in time, This is a charming experience if you enjoy history and character. I would happily give this place five stars for the stay itself. My only reservation is unrelated to the accommodation, but rather to how the owner responds to negative reviews. A more diplomatic, respectful, and welcoming tone toward criticism would enhance the overall impression and help future guests fully appreciate the comforts of this unique place. Overall, a memorable stay in a distinctive and well-situated property.

Casa Frankie is situated in the Historic Centre a short walk from bars, restaurants, the market area and tourist shops. The property has been tastefully decorated by the owner with nice furnishings especially in the front room and dining area. The kitchen can be used by guests. There is a fridge/freezer, cooker, kettle, cutlery, plates bowls etc. I had single occupancy in my good sized room. The room had a double and single bed, bedside light, table and chair and a ceiling fan. There is a nice breakfast ( not included in the room price at time of writing this) The bathrooms and toilets which are shared, are clean and tidy. The pool area is clean and well maintained with a large tree to shade you from the sun. The staff are warm, welcoming and make you feel at home. I very much enjoyed my stay and would book again in the future.

The house is beautiful and very spacious. The rooms are clean, and the beds and pillows are comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped, and the bathrooms are huge and very clean. The location is good, right in the historic center of São Luís. However, many places in the area are closed or abandoned, which has nothing to do with the accommodation itself. But if you want to walk around at night and find places to dine and drink, it can be more difficult.

Casa Frankie is located in a carefully restored old town house. Do not expect luxury, but the place is really nice and Frank and his staff are very welcoming and helpful. It is moreover located in the historic centre of São Luis, so it also an easy walk to many of the sights. We stayed for 5 days and can only recommend it.

Absolutely awful conditions, completely falsely advertised, we had no electric and Wi-Fi on the first day of stay, the only decent area is the lounge but is constantly occupied by groups of guys smoking. The rooms are hot dark and full of mosquitos being the only light you get from the open door or a small lampshade. No ventilation whatsoever. ||The bedding was used and smelly and extremely uncomfortable and there’s only one socket in the room which plugs in the only light you have. You must choose either light or charge your phone. ||The bathrooms are shared and there’s rarely toilet paper. The pool was rancid and filthy and unusuable. ||The area is very dodgy and we wouldn’t advise it for families, there are a lot of beggars and drugs in the doorstep, and very unsafe once it gets dark. ||This was by far the worst ‘hotel’ we have ever stayed. ||This is actually just someone’s home not a hotel, there’s no service of any kind, no housekeeping, no cleaning, no breakfast, no safety and bare minimal maintenance. The whole property has no glass windows and is all on the open, be prepared to have all sorts of creepy bugs, fleas and mosquitoes in the bed with you. ||I can’t believe there are actually some genuine good reviews about this place. While we stayed we noticed everyone tends to stay for one night only and leave.

Absolutely stunning hostel with an interesting twist. The host and his family are very friendly and couldn't have made us more welcome. The rooms were beautiful with high ceilings and the pool was huge. Great area of the city too.

Charming pousada in Sao Luis and charming hosts. Localisation is excellent, in the middle of the old town and in a very quiet & safe street. The rooms are confortable with a view on the pool. Even with no air conditioning, we did enjoy the night with a very good sleep and a fantastic breakfast.

Passing though São Luis was a fantastic experience for us, and Casa Frankie is the perfect place to stay if you want to soak up the old-time colonial feel of the city. Casa Frankie is quiet, clean, and lovingly restored - a fascinating traditional colonial building from around the mid-19th century. Frank is an excellent host, and we felt at home and welcome straight away.||Casa Frankie is perfectly situated in the old city, with its cobbled streets and wrought iron street lamps. It's not far from restaurants, shops and the local market (all within a half a mile). São Luis has a feel that's different from elsewhere - maybe the ghosts of the French founders still linger on 400 years later. In other cities we've had to put up with noisy neighbours partying wildly til dawn, with techno music blasting loud enough to drown out a jumbo jet. At Casa Frankie I only heard the neigbours playing music once - it was Strauss, nice and quiet. Maybe we were just lucky.||We were disappointed by the 'sea-side'. Don't expect pristine bathing-beaches. The views afforded from a walk along the coastline are great if you like mud, and lots of it. But bring your swimming clothes anyway, there's a pool back at the house.||Thanks go to Frank and the staff. We had a great stay and will definitely stay at Casa Frankie next time we're in São Luis.
