7 Must-Try Sandwiches for Your Next Trip to Portugal

"A Porto spot credited as the origin of the sandes de pernil: slow-roasted, shredded pork shoulder piled high with cheese inside a flavorful roll; its multiple locations make it easy to sample this emblematic northern pork sandwich without a long wait." - Stacey Leasca

We went to Casa Guedes Rooftop for dinner and really enjoyed the vibes. The food was great, and the pork cracklings are a must-try. We also tried the famous Francesinha for the first time. Can’t say how it compares to other places, but I realised it’s not really my kind of dish. Still glad I gave it a try. Everything else was delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Definitely a spot worth checking out!

Great atmosphere, music is not too loud and the food is amazing. Good price/portion/location ratio. We tried the francesinha and torresmos (our favs). Thanks to VICTOR the service was seamless and attentive!

I had the Francesinha and a cocktail, and both were just perfect. Everything tasted fresh, rich, and full of flavor. But what really made the whole experience unforgettable was the service. Gabriel was simply outstanding, so friendly, attentive, and full of positive energy. He made us feel incredibly welcome and added such a great vibe with his humor and kindness!😁

A nice rooftop bar overlooking funky Praca dos Poveiros. I saw a piece of spit roast suckling pig downstairs and decided to give their Franchesina a try. Had a good time here.

This place doesn't disappoint on good food and atmosphere. The only let down was we went in peak service and waited for ages for our food, however the establishment kindly apologised and offered us free coffee and dessert on the house. But due to an amazing feed once how plate arrived we couldn't possibly fit another thing in. It's rare to find a restaurant who gives back to the customers. Thank you for your hospitality very much appreciated from Brisbane Australia!

I came across this restaurant from a YouTube suggestion and was so happy I visited. My husband and I sat at the rooftop for lunch in May and absolutely enjoyed our meals. He was particularly excited about his Francesinha and was even offered additional sauce which he happily accepted 😁. The atmosphere was also quite enjoyable as the top level is open-air and the weather was nice that day. Service was great. We definitely recommend this spot for a wonderful Porto experience! Our space at our table felt a bit tight but we managed fine.

On our last night in Porto before heading back to the States, we decided to have dinner at Casa Guedes after seeing all the amazing reviews. There was a line when we got there and at first we thought about skipping it, but we decided to wait. Good call because we were seated in less than ten minutes and got a rooftop table with a great vibe. We sat next to a couple from Kansas and ended up chatting the whole night. Our server, Paulo, was awesome. Super friendly, knew the menu inside out, and gave great recommendations. He suggested a white sangria with oranges and ginger that was insanely good. We started with the cod cake topped with soft sheep cheese and the roasted pork rissole with caramelized onion and port wine. Both were amazing, but the pork cracklings might’ve been my favorite dish of the night. We were starting to get full but had to try their famous Francesinha, so we went with the Guedes version. It was rich, flavorful, and super filling, especially with the fries. For dessert, Paulo talked us into the lime tart and the chocolate mousse. Both were delicious and the perfect way to wrap up dinner. To top it off, the music playing was from Flavor Trip, which we actually listen to back home, so that was a fun surprise. Now I get why this place has over 12,000 reviews. The food, the people, and the vibe were all incredible. If you’re in Porto, Casa Guedes Rooftop is a must. Sit on the rooftop if you can. Highly recommend.

It is for sure a hidden gem in Porto! Menu has a great variety of dishes and drinks. There's plenty of tables in the restaurant, but making a reservation is better. Service is quick and attentive. Food portions are just perfect and not pricey. All of the dishes we ordered were super good and tasty. Definitely recommended!
