7 Must-Try Sandwiches for Your Next Trip to Portugal

"A Porto spot credited as the origin of the sandes de pernil: slow-roasted, shredded pork shoulder piled high with cheese inside a flavorful roll; its multiple locations make it easy to sample this emblematic northern pork sandwich without a long wait." - Stacey Leasca

We went to Casa Guedes Rooftop for dinner and really enjoyed the vibes. The food was great, and the pork cracklings are a must-try. We also tried the famous Francesinha for the first time. Can’t say how it compares to other places, but I realised it’s not really my kind of dish. Still glad I gave it a try. Everything else was delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Definitely a spot worth checking out!

This place doesn't disappoint on good food and atmosphere. The only let down was we went in peak service and waited for ages for our food, however the establishment kindly apologised and offered us free coffee and dessert on the house. But due to an amazing feed once how plate arrived we couldn't possibly fit another thing in. It's rare to find a restaurant who gives back to the customers. Thank you for your hospitality very much appreciated from Brisbane Australia!

I came across this restaurant from a YouTube suggestion and was so happy I visited. My husband and I sat at the rooftop for lunch in May and absolutely enjoyed our meals. He was particularly excited about his Francesinha and was even offered additional sauce which he happily accepted 😁. The atmosphere was also quite enjoyable as the top level is open-air and the weather was nice that day. Service was great. We definitely recommend this spot for a wonderful Porto experience! Our space at our table felt a bit tight but we managed fine.

It is for sure a hidden gem in Porto! Menu has a great variety of dishes and drinks. There's plenty of tables in the restaurant, but making a reservation is better. Service is quick and attentive. Food portions are just perfect and not pricey. All of the dishes we ordered were super good and tasty. Definitely recommended!

Wow! Came here at the recommendation of Barbara our Tuk Tuk driver for a traditional Francesinha and it was AMAZING! We arrived when it opened and was offered seating outside, inside or on the rooftop terrace. We chose the later! It was simple fabulous. We started with a tasty appetiser ~ the famous cod fishcake and it was delicious! Then our waitress Emily came and she was absolutely AMAZING! We explained what we wanted and she talked us through the menu explaining what was best for us! When the food came she told us to make sure the chips went into the sauce as this was the traditional way to eat it! The Francesinha was absolutely delicious! Took some getting through but we enjoyed every mouthful! All the staff were friendly and welcoming but Emily deserves a special shout out! 👍🏻 Fabulous place and highly recommend!

Visited twice during our 3 day stay. The pork cheese & onion roll on Day 1 was superb. Day 2 we had tacos, fries with eggs & bacon, both really good. The pork here is worth the visit & the service was great, Bittencourt looked after us day 2 & was spot on 👊 great vibe on the roof terrace & pretty cheap too.

It’s a good place to have a meal but I wouldn’t call it great. We sat on the rooftop level. There are only high bar chairs and high tables which are not the most comfortable. Additionally our table was super wobbly. The staff were super nice and we got a quick customer service. The food was quite mediocre. Francesinha could be better and chicken breast came with bone which was a bit disappointing. The entries were super dry and salty. We had nicer once in Porto already so that was a bit disappointing. The food portions were ok but not too generous. Overall the place is okay, but for the price you can get better food.

A lovely place we stumbled upon by chance! It’s a spacious restaurant with a fantastic rooftop area. The staff are incredibly friendly, and there’s a wide variety of dishes to choose from. The food itself was absolutely delicious. We’ll definitely be coming back!
