Casa Hacienda Shismay

Great place, and the climate is very nice. It's preferred to have your own vehicle to get here, you can continue on the road much further into the mountains to a lake and then it's a hike from there into the high mountains. It's interesting how a few miles away you can have such a dramatic change in climates.

We spent a day in the local village and stayed the night in this friendly hacienda. Part of the hacienda has been restored and some of the rooms are now used as a museum showcasing the hacienda's previous owners' lives. The caretaker and his family are wonderfully friendly and helpful. The view from the grounds are beautiful and gloriously quiet. Perfect place to watch the villagers returning from the fields at the end of the day and the sun set over the Andes.

I stayed at Casa Hacienda Shismay in September 2012, and had an incredible experience at this converted Hacienda. The community of Shismay, along with the former Hacienda owner, have converted this lodge into a regional destination for hiking, Andean culture and cuisine, and sustainable tourism. The Hacienda is located about 45 minutes outside of Huánuco in the folds of the green Andes. Upon arrival, we toured the Hacienda and learned about its rich history from its founding by German settlers to its dismantling in the 1960s. We strolled around the community and absorbed the rhythms of daily life, and ended the day with fresh tamales and wonderful bread. An unforgettable experience off Peru´s (very) beaten tourist trail. Highly recommend!

Best hotel in Huanuco

Encantadora casa museo , rodeada de verdor y tranquilidad. Ideal para hospedarse y conocer su historia. Lastima que las personas que atienden se demoraron en atender y no hay guía.

Me gustaron bastante las lagunas mancapozo y parquencho, no obstante fui un sábado y les recomiendo llevar sus provisiones ya que en el lugar solo encontré una tienda, sin embargo el pueblo ofrece trankilidad y buenas vistas panorámicas, reservar con tiempo la visita a la casa hacienda y el preparado de almuerzo
