Casa Hacienda Shismay

Great place, and the climate is very nice. It's preferred to have your own vehicle to get here, you can continue on the road much further into the mountains to a lake and then it's a hike from there into the high mountains. It's interesting how a few miles away you can have such a dramatic change in climates.

We spent a day in the local village and stayed the night in this friendly hacienda. Part of the hacienda has been restored and some of the rooms are now used as a museum showcasing the hacienda's previous owners' lives. The caretaker and his family are wonderfully friendly and helpful. The view from the grounds are beautiful and gloriously quiet. Perfect place to watch the villagers returning from the fields at the end of the day and the sun set over the Andes.

I stayed at Casa Hacienda Shismay in September 2012, and had an incredible experience at this converted Hacienda. The community of Shismay, along with the former Hacienda owner, have converted this lodge into a regional destination for hiking, Andean culture and cuisine, and sustainable tourism. The Hacienda is located about 45 minutes outside of Huánuco in the folds of the green Andes. Upon arrival, we toured the Hacienda and learned about its rich history from its founding by German settlers to its dismantling in the 1960s. We strolled around the community and absorbed the rhythms of daily life, and ended the day with fresh tamales and wonderful bread. An unforgettable experience off Peru´s (very) beaten tourist trail. Highly recommend!

A relaxed place a bit out of the city. Ideal for a moment of relaxation and meditation.

El paisaje es hermoso, y la hacienda acogedora y llena de historia. SIN EMBARGO el trato del personal deja mucho que desear (Pésimo). Si estas de pasada y no te encuentras hospedado NO ESPERES poder comer nada (SU SERVICIO DE RESTAURANTE NO FUNCIONA). A la fecha que se escribe esta opinión el costo por ingresar a la hacienda es de 1 sol, y luego de ingresar no te facilitarán a ningún tipo de guía, por lo que tendrás que guiarte de los avisos informativos que hay allí.

El lugar fue perfecto para lo que buscábamos, un viaje familiar con mis padres, mi esposa y mi bebé de 7 meses. Lo primero que nos impactó al llegar (llegamos de noche) fué el cielo inmenso lleno de estrellas y un silencio que te hace olvidar el stress de la ciudad. El trato de los que nos recibieron fue excelente y la comida riquísima. Hace bastante frió por las noches pero cuentan con calefactores que ayudan bastante a descansar. Si eres de los que están cansados de la ciudad es el lugar ideal. Lo que más me gustó: El contacto directo con la naturaleza. El silencio total por las noches para un descanso perfecto. La comida típica. El aire puro. El trato amable de la gente. Hay una laguna cerca al alojamiento.
