We had lunch at Casa Julián de Tolosa in Madrid, famous for its Basque-style grilling!! :) The rustic ambiance set the tone for a relaxed and memorable meal. The steak was smoky and flavorful! perhaps not the best cut we’ve had, but still satisfying. What truly impressed us were the sides: the grilled peppers, sweet and perfectly charred and the CHORIZO!!! easily one of the best we’ve ever tried rich, juicy, and packed with flavor. Paired with a good glass of wine, the dishes came together beautifully. With attentive service and Madrid’s charm, the whole experience was worth it and unforgettable.

The steak was disappointing. While the portion was huge (over 1 kg), it was overly chewy, and after trimming away the fat and inedible parts, what was really left was maybe 400–500 g of meat. The texture wasn’t as tender as I would have expected, especially considering the advertised 25-day aging. Overall, it fell short of expectations. On the positive side, the lettuce dish was absolutely incredible. We enjoyed it very much, and it was honestly the highlight of the meal. The staff were very friendly Bottom line: overrated

We had the best chorizo, the tomato and tuna salad was also amazing. We ordered a kilo of chuleton medium-cooked, we found it a little less cooked than medium and it was full of fat and bone but still delicious. We did not like the pepper that they offered as a side to the meat. First time we have tried warm cheesecake and liked it. Rice pudding was also good and they brought liqueur with the desserts.

A must try if you’re in Madrid and can’t make the ride to the original location in Tolosa (around 4-5 hours away) The steakhouse is popularly recognized by food influencers as the best steak in the world - bold statement? Indeed - is it the best steak in the world? It is up there. What makes a good steak special is the side that comes with the steak, Casa Julian has a side of oven cooked sweet peppers that are must try along their steak. A unique side to this steakhouse is that they don’t have salt&pepper on tables, later on I found out that it is a subliminal statement - that their food is served perfectly seasoned. Nice tactic!

Google
The title 'best steak in Madrid' is valid. Had the tuna and tomato salad with sourdough for starters, never tasted anything alike. Then just simply the pimientos and ribeye for main. Taste of the steak is to perfection and the peppers are exquisite. Atmosphere is very relaxed and local. Upon check out you receive either a liquorice liquor or a baileys based liquor as a digestive. Rice pudding and cheese cake were fantastic too. Service was tiptop, very helpful staff members. Highly highly recommended!

Had the pleasure to have one of the best steak I’ve ever had. - Old cox T bone with domestic beef. Would the simple seasoning and perfect cooking. I finished it by myself but highly recommended for 2 people to share. - roasted pepper is very tasty and sweet, good balance with the fresh bread - fried chorizo is also good

I have wanted to eat here for many years after seeing Casa Julian on a cooking/travel show. It totally lived up to my expectations. The service is top shelf, with great advice on how to navigate the menu, the wine list impeccable and the steaks are off the charts. We picked the 1.4 kg rib-eye on the bone and it was perfectly charred on the outside and magnificently rare inside. If you happen to go here, can you take me with you please?

Google
It is in the center of Madrid, a well known highend steakhouse. The meal included, a massive 4lb t-bone enough for two, the sides well complimented the steak, which was delicious sautéed bell pepper, as well as a sautéed mushrooms on a bed of cheese with the egg yolk atop adding to the presentation. We also had a delicious tomato salad, and to end the a warm cheese cake which was absolutely delicious. They also offer warm bread as a starter which is always an added treat. The establishment appears to be family own and run, the ladies are knowledgeable but a bit serious. I believe that a warm and friendly disposition can add to the experience and make it more enjoyable for all clients especially new ones. The restaurant is well known, the facility is cozy, its decor adds to the character and ambiance which was lively. They have an extensive selection of wines, Overall dining experience was pleasant, it is a restaurant i recommend!

Yelp
I came to taste the steak I saw in the window. I ordered a steak medium rare (entrecote) and the gazpacho. Both were delicious however my medium rare was perfectly rare with a cold center. That and my drink being empty for half of my meal are what drives my rating. The only job of a steakhouse is to get the temp right!

Yelp
Restaurant has a very nice and clean interior. Nice selection of wines. We ordered salad, roasted peppers, and steak for 2. They prepare it rare, but it was not bloody and cooked to melt in your mouth. Desserts were great too! Staff was attentive but not too overbearing

Yelp
Pleasant lighting, low noise level (both usually problematic in Spain) and the best meat I've tried in a while. Unlike most Spanish steakhouses, the beef is aged.

Yelp
I loved the warm bread that welcomed us. For appetizer, the white asparagus were pretty tasty. We ordered the steak for two, and it was far from the medium that we asked for. All red and bloody. The chef happily went back and cooked it a bit more but some of it were still a bit too red for me. So please ask for advice from the waitress so you get the steak you ask for. The steak was well seasoned so it was a shame that I didn't finish my share, but I did like the place...Weird, I know.

Yelp
One of my favorites in the world. The chop for 2 with the roasted peppers (you need to order in addition but it's a definite must) is one of the best steaks I have ever tasted, rivaling the most esteemed steakhouses in NYC. I think it has something to do with the ambiance your get from the crackling open-wood burning fire in the kitchen and the chef's patience and skill with the steak. Try the white sangria as well and don't look back. The owner Angela is amazing as well.

Yelp
The service was excellent - very attentive, but not too much. The bread at the beginning was fresh - hot, crispy outside and perfect inside. I had the alubias (black/dark red) beans - perfectly cooked. Since I was by myself, the waitress kindly offered me the half portion. They came with cabbage, pork, morcillo (blood sausage), and peppers in olive oil. The T-bone was huge!! I couldn't finish all of it! I did order dessert (it goes in a different compartment) - the natillas were very smooth and rich. I would highly recommend this establishment!
