Casa Macondo Bed & Breakfast

Absolutely wonderful place to stay! Quiet but also very social in its nature. Franz the owner goes out of his way to help with everything and is super kind! Breakfast is great, beds are comfy, garden is gorgeous and rooms are spacious and airy. A perfect example of how a hostel should be!

We stayed here for 3 nights and stayed in a suite room. The hotel has lots of character (nice indoor and outdoor courtyards) and our room was lovely and light. Other rooms are around an indoor courtyard so might not be as bright and spacious. The shower was good and hot and the WiFi excellent. It was a convenient location for exploring Cuenca and near to plenty restaurants and the various squares. The staff were very friendly and helpful with our onward travel arrangements to Guayaquil. We appreciated the drinking water available in the kitchen. One minor thing is that we found laundry here to be very expensive.

Spot on. Great building. Great bed. Good breakfast. Good location. Quite. Friendly and helpful stuff. Clean rooms. Warm water. Really everything one expects from an hotel in this price range. The only complication is the for policy, guests need to call the for as the keys are not given, what can be tricky at night, but still it's a general policy in Ecuador and one should have no remorse coming late at night:)

Very friendly, welcoming and clean rooms. Owner was very helpful in accommodating last minute tours. Decent breakfast included with the price. One possible improvement is to hand out front door key so you don’t have to wake anyone up by ringing the doorbell

Cozy, clean, safe, and affordable. The staff and owner were very helpful and friendly. Beautiful little courtyard with a garden (I was lucky enough to have a room with a good view of it) and an excellent breakfast included. I will be back if I find myself in Cuenca again.

The rooms were comfortable, the breakfast was delicious, and the garden courtyard was a peaceful and quiet retreat. A friendly staff helped me enjoy my stay in Cuenca. They were knowledgable about the area and happy to assist with suggestions and directions.

This is a gorgeous family run place - the breakfast options are perfect - eggs, museli or fruit salad with all the coffee and bread options. This is easily the quietest place I have stayed in Ecuador!! And still near loads to see and do 😍😍! Beds super comfy too!! I forgot to mention hoy water 🚿 🙌🙌🙌🙌

Centrally located in Cuenca’s beautiful historical centre, Casa Macondo is a small family run hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Most of the rooms face a lovely garden away from the street, so noise will not be a problem. There’s also a cozy lounge by the lobby. Guests tend to be older Europeans and North Americans - some are staying for weeks or even months, a testament to the hotel’s popularity. Breakfast is included, but can get repetitive if you’re staying more than a few days. The only drawback is that you have to ring the bell to get through the front door, and at night (after 10 pm or so), it may take a while before someone opens the door. Highly recommended overall.
