Casa Mãe Lagos (Lagos, Algarve) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Once a crumbling estate by the sea, Casa Mãe was revived by a design-minded newcomer who made Lagos her home. Set just inside the city’s 16th-century walls, the hotel bridges eras and aesthetics - its 34 rooms span a whitewashed 19th-century house, concrete cabanas, and pared-back garden suites. Terracotta tiles, handwoven textiles, and custom ceramics speak to local tradition. With orchard paths, a vegetable garden and salt air drifting in from the coast, Casa Mãe offers a slower version of southern Portugal." - Tablet Hotels

I cannot put into words how beautiful this boutique hotel is. My husband and I booked one of the cabanas for our honeymoon and it was the best decision we made during our travels in Portugal. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with stunning decor, smiles from the staff, and a welcome glass of wine or other drink of your choosing. The staff let us store our bags, gave us many recommendations of things to do, and allowed us to enjoy the facilities as we waited to check-in. Our room was incredible, private, and very close to the pool. Every little detail, like the champagne, lavender bath salts, robes and slippers, and pastel de natas were an absolute treat! The pool is absolutely beautiful with many chairs and a pool side bar with delicious food. Our favorite part of our stay was the breakfast and BBQ. Every single bite we had here, we loved! My mouth is still watering. The farm to table concept is magnificent. The serving staff were always kind, polite, and accommodating. The dinner we had for their BBQ party was our favorite meal of the entire trip- I will always be dreaming of the sea bass. Lastly, the entire property almost feels like your own! It was so quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. It was also very walkable to the marina and bars/restaurants. HIGHLY recommend staying here! Book it, it’s worth it!

From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. Love the special touches like a pillow menu, Smeg kettle with delicious tea, & arrival champagne. The pools are amazing, loved the breakfast and we had dinner on property one night as well and had the best time. Our room was in the main building and it was an open concept floorplan which we loved, very spacious, warm, and inviting. Our private patio was nice and our building had its own plunge pool which was refreshing. The little store inside was so cute too and we bought home paintings. My only observation that wasn’t 5 star was the range in experience level from the staff. There were clearly young interns that did not know how to properly provide service at that level to be considered 5 star (don’t know how to pour wine, for example) but we understand everyone has to start somewhere.

The best place to stay in Lagos. Food, grounds and service was perfect. Definitely a wellness hotel and executed perfectly. Giving 5 stars but give 1/5 for housekeeping they barely cleaned the rooms during our stay which was strange.... reused cups never replaced, didn't stock towels, the room was just unkept the entire time despite them entering and "cleaning" or making up the room.

This was probably one of the greatest hotel experiences I have ever had. First, the food. Incredible beyond, some of the best I’ve ever had in all my travels, best hotel food period. Everything is healthy, natural and unprocessed, locally grown and gathered. This is how food should be served everywhere. Staff were all friendly and kind, attentive, quick, clearly all happy to work there. The breakfast is open, but not buffet style, a la Carte. Which was better than any hotel buffet and more conscious of excess and waste. The rooms were calming and comfortable, we had a wonderful balcony with hammock. We enjoyed lounging at the pool. Loved having a yoga mat in the room (it’s above the closet space, don’t miss it!). And location was perfect, center of town. I cannot wait for our next stay, run don’t walk to stay at Casa Mae.

We had a great stay here! The property is beautiful and well kept. The staff were incredibly nice and responsive - and they made a number of great recommendations for activities and restaurants. We also really enjoyed our spa treatments. The location is in walking distance to everything in town and also right near free parking. If we return to Lagos, we would definitely stay here again.

Aesthetically we loved this hotel and are glad we stayed here. Awesome pool area with chairs always available, peaceful atmosphere, welcome champagne in our room, turndown service, healthy and high quality breakfast, clean rooms and awesome smelling products. The team contacts you a lot prior to your stay to make it feel like service will truly be a 5 star experience and pre-books activities for you. That being said, once we got here we were surprised by the lack of service / slow service / missed details. I suspect it is the time of year (late September) and there was less staff than peak summer. ||A few examples of things that sat funny for us: before we checked in they asked if we’re celebrating anything, we were celebrating our engagement, no mention or congrats during our stay. Booked 60 minute deep tissue massages, no receptionist at spa to check us in, massage was only 50 mins and not very good. No pool service until 1 pm without even drinking water out at the pool and they don’t come to your chairs often, have to hunt down a waiter to order a drink and anything besides wine is met with a bit of a flabbergasted expression. ||Overall would recommend, just think they need to add some staff and be more thoughtful about the little details that ultimately make paying for a 5 star feel worth it.

I recently stayed at this property, promoted as a 5-star hotel, but several elements fell short of the standards expected, as attention to detail is critical at this level. Upon arrival, the reception staff spoke and laughed in their own language while attending to guests. While there may have been no ill intent, this created an unwelcoming first impression. The room itself presented multiple issues. The door still relies on a traditional key and a faulty knob rather than a key card, a standard in virtually all luxury accommodations worldwide. The open bathroom layout exposed the room directly to a persistent white noise, likely from the shower ventilation fan, which could be disturbing for sensitive guests. Many products in the room were available for purchase with price tags attached, creating a commercial and impersonal atmosphere inconsistent with a property marketed as a “Casa”-like retreat. Lighting was cold and harsh, further detracting from a warm, inviting environment. Breakfast did not meet the expectations raised by the farm-to-table concept. Dishes varied in quality across different days, with one undercooked and returned. At dinner, one of the dishes, a grilled octopus, released excess water when eaten, suggesting it had likely been previously frozen—again, not consistent with the expectations of a farm-to-table concept and in general with the experience of a 5-star hotel. However, the staff were polite, professional, and responsive, making every effort to address these issues and find solutions. Additionally, certain aspects of the property were excellent and reflective of the level expected in a luxury setting: the spa treatment was delivered with care and professionalism and the pool area was meticulously maintained and inviting. Nevertheless, even with these strengths, the property seems more focused on visually appealing spaces suitable for social media contents than on delivering an authentic luxury experience. While the cost reflects a 5-star positioning, the hotel lacks authenticity and the meticulous attention to detail that define genuine luxury. A 5-star review here, either signals unfamiliarity with true luxury or the comforting illusion that a high price automatically guarantees a high-end experience.

There are no words to describe the experience we had during our stay at Casa Mãe. There is no detail this team and special place did not think of. The food, the team, the service, and the atmosphere are all so intentional and thoughtful. ||In addition to the wonderful, wonderful food, team and hotel. This hotel is also in a great location and is very walkable - you are minutes away from Old Town Lagos, a 15-20 min walk from the train station, and within walking distance to beaches.||We truly felt at home here, loved our time here and getting to know the team. You will not regret a stay at this magical place! We will most certainly be back.
