I normally buy tamales and they are good but this Saturday I quest there was a different cocker but they use cilantro and gave a tamale a different taste they should try to fallow the recipe

My family decided to order from La Casa del Maíz for Noche Buena so no one would have to cook and we could actually enjoy time together. What a huge mistake. We went to pick up a pork shoulder that we had ordered in advance, and it honestly looked like it had been cooked days ago. On top of that, they gave us the wrong item altogether thankfully we checked. When we asked if it could be replaced (since it would’ve been even worse by the time dinner was served), they gave us a hard time instead of fixing their mistake. No one there is helpful. The staff looks at you like you’re doing something wrong or like they’re doing you a favor by giving you food you paid for. This was a catering order of over $100, and there was absolutely no regard for customer service. If you’re thinking about ordering catering for any event, do yourself a favor and do not order from here. Completely disappointing and absolutely horrible experience.

Google
We randomly found this place and decided to try it. It was amazing, one of the most flavorful meals I’ve ever had. We will come back to Miami just to eat here. The service was great, they were so friendly and helpful.

Google
Good place if you wanna have some Atole it reminds me the one back home. Food is ok, too salty for my taste, has a good variety too, big portions, one meal can easily feed 2 people, price is good. Customer service is not so good inside. But outside on the Grill area very friendly staff and you have a different, healthier option. Just tell the chef not too add just a bit of salt and low on the oil. I had grilled veggies and grilled chicken and it was great also big portion can easily share, the price was good too. I will go back but to eat outside on the Grill area.

Google
I ordered the Carne con papa. All I got was bone. Never ordering take out here again. Had that plate come to my table I would have left it there.

Cary S.

Google
Received my order through Uber eats. No utensils provided no dressing for my rotten salad and black beans were more liquid than actual beans. Rice was about 2 tablespoons worth. It’s not even about the money. The quality and food safety is more of a concern for me. First and last time I order from here.

Google
First order the shrimp in a bowl gave me an upset stomach. Second time I ordered Chinese rice and plantains…. I ended up with food poisoning and horrible aching pain + ER VISIT! Something is wrong with the food!!!!!!!

Mario M.

Google
In the grill fresh food (meat and vegetables) cooked in front of your eyes. inside all the usual Cuban items cooked very nice considering that is cooked in mass. I highly recommend it. It's a non frill place.

Yelp
My friend gave me a recommendation for this place. Finally, I was able to try it. The quality of the food was ok, just like other places. I didn't think anything special. The ladies spoke some English and I was able to communicate. There were some people eating inside. But most people came in for take out.

Yelp
A friend recommended Casa Maíz to us recently. They told us they had great tamales. Finally made it over to them, was not disappointed! Small intimate place off the main avenue. My wife just had one tamal, which was very tasty and authentic Cuban style. We've had tamales from other countries, but none taste like the original Cuban ones. They basically have a small "L" shaped serving line where you tell the server what you want. Aside from tamales they have all the basic Cuban dishes. Grilled chicken, roasted pork, grounded beef, with all the sides. Imperial yellow rice with chicken and melted cheese over the top. Limited seating inside with additional seating outside under cover. For $7.49 I had chopped chicken, yellow rice, plantains, black beans, diced tomatoes and onions with a creamy cilantro sauce over it. Definitely worth trying!

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful breakfast at a Cuban restaurant in Miami. The highlight of my meal was the bacon, eggs, and croquetas. The bacon was perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. The croquetas were perfectly seasoned and fried, crispy on the outside and filled with a savory bacalao and cheese on the inside. The portion size was generous, and the presentation was appealing. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. The prices were very affordable and the atmosphere was that of a family owned bakery. With prices like that they can expect to see me there at least Twice a week enjoying a breakfast.

Yelp
Be careful, i paid in credit card which i give them 15% tip but now i checked my receipt and tip was included and the lady didn't tell me anything about tip .

Anyeli R.

Yelp

Yelp
Not good, food is mediocre not the best. Eatable when hungry, but they could improve the taste.
google avatar

Natia C.

Yelp
Horrible. Don't know why this place is Soo bad now Food didn't taste as before. Tamales horrible and expensive. Tamal en cazuelas same. No taste at all. Frituras ok. But becarful pay for 12 and missing one. Count before leave the place.

Yelp
For what i was serve and the price i paid for i rather go to 4290 E Fourth Ave Hialeah, FL 33013 Less expensive better quality and good attention, Quality of the food is alright, unless you go and order outside , pan con churrasco or the chicken meal deal which here is casa maiz is Great I just felt rip off Having the today's specials Carne con papa at $15 When in other similar great places they'll serve more and for less , and yes less money Better quality of food and service

Yelp
Family and friends have been raving to me about this place for over a year now, but I don't drive far anymore except when I absolutely need to. This was the case recently, as I was planning my youngest's Quince. Like her other three sisters, she didn't want a traditional Quinceanera in a ballroom, a couture gown, a Court of Honor composed of 14 couples or just 14 maidens, professional photography, etc. She wanted an intimate dinner with family and her closest circle of friends, fun games, and music. That's exactly what I planned and produced for her. For weeks, we taste-tested food from different restaurants. Finally, the Imperial Rice (Arroz Imperial) is what she LOVED from Casa Maiz! Given that I wanted to design everything for her and around her, although I knew Arroz Imperial was...let's say, a mediocre dish for a Quince, I also knew that the appetizers, sides, drinks, as well as other factors, especially the presentation and decor, would make the difference for our sit-down dinner--and it did! Because they're set up as a food-by-the-pound place and it's always super busy, the service is rushed and the staff appears stressed, not friendly. My only complaint is that I made many attempts on different days and various times of the day to speak to someone on the phone to check if they had a similar option (Arroz con Pollo) without the slice of ham and cheese topping they put on theirs (they didn't have it), yet it was never possible. While they have two locations, one in Doral and the other in Hialeah, I had to make an extra trip to the Hialeah location just to speak to them. The teenagers loved the rice as is, but I wish they would consider offering the Imperial Rice (minus the cheese and ham). It would be one of their highest-ranked dishes; guaranteed! The other thing is that the tamales, which are the most popular item and purchased by the dozen or more, are only made with pork. When I asked the manager if they would consider making chicken or plain tamales, he said, "!NUNCA! [NEVER!]" Well, how very disappointing!!! With the exception of their Chicken Cordon Bleu (which my sister kept telling me not to order because they don't specialize in French cuisine and it was as hard as a bowling ball), the greater majority of items are well seasoned and cooked, and authentically Cuban. With that, it would be great if they expanded and opened up in Broward.

Julie R.

Yelp
Something was off on that food. We were a party of 4, all of us were sick of our stomachs I will never go bank there again.
google avatar

Cindy R.

Yelp
The food is decent but really expensive for the amount served. We ordered four plates of food, which were served with mostly a rice and bean combo and the ticket was more than $100. We could have had a sit down meal for that price elsewhere. The customer service should also be improved. There's no welcome environment nor smiles or a thank you until they ask you to tip.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here with my granny and boyfriend. Was in the area and was hungry for some good Hispanic food but everyone had different food options in mind. So I advised on this old hidden gem in Hialeah on 57th ave/Red Road. We were casual and no body was barely here. Just a few small family / friends groups. I've been on a diet lately so I had a grilled chicken, yuca with mojo and veggies. Lots of different food options from ropa vieja, chicharrón, palomilla and tamales. Great natural juice options to such as mango, watermelon, lemonade and passion fruit. They also have desserts such as flan and much more. Place was clean.

Yelp
I friend recommended this place, and I had seen it advertised as well Inside they have pre-cooked food. Outside they have the Griil. We went to the Grill. One pound of Churrasco cooked to desired doneness, veggies, and corn also on the grill. Very well seasoned. A Churrasco Sándwich comes with potato sticks, tomato, lettuce, onions and Cuban bread. Everything was delicious. Flan for dessert, a little dry, but not bad. Sodas and Perrier water completed our meal.

Al C.

Yelp
The food is great but the owner is running a scam on Uber eats. He must be over charging twice if not 3 times what the food cost in store. Then they make these bullshit buy one get one deals that aren't real buy one get one. What he does is he doubles the price of the plate and then offers a " second one" so you end up paying full price anyway. Just look at the price of this plate. This would be 11-14 dollars at restaurant. I don't get why try to scam people when Uber eats brings them more business they could have ever dreamed of. Hopefully the owner thinks about this and stops ring greedy and scamming his community.

Yelp

Ariel G.

Yelp
Stay away from this joint. Prices are ridicjlous and foood leaves much to be desired.

Alfonso T.

Yelp
Food 8/10 Traditional Cuban food with good flavors. Service 10/10 Very attentive personnel. Price 6/10 Very expensive for a cafeteria with small portions. Ambiance 8/10

Kevin R.

Yelp
Most of the restaurant food contains pork food, there's no variations when it comes to meat whatsoever The tamales have pork, the yuka have pork, only two rices had no pork , I'm allergic to pork, and I'm a Jewish man Cuban food is not only about pork, I know my Cuban historic cuisine and it have a vast variations of food that are not entitled to only pork

Yelp
Went in for lunch! Went inside! And it seemed like a found by the pound. The ladies behind the counter were a bit dry so I went outside and ordered. Glad I did ! The cook was pleasant and guided me to make a delicious decision. Food was cooked on an open grill, meat was tender and the taste was delicious. I took my food to go and ordered extra for dinner. The food was cook to order and Fresh! Great place to stop in if you are in the area!

Yelp
Not a restaurant with a menu, but rather one where the food is ready to be served and you let the staff know what you want by pointing and they serve it on true spot. My main complaint is the staff. Everyone seems to be upset everytime you ask a question, ask about ingredients, ask for a spoon/plate/fork. No one looks happy to be working there, I just wish they had a good front facing staff. They also don't seem to be very knowledgeable about allergens or ingredients in their food. Some of us enjoyed their food, some didn't since like I mentioned, got served food that contained ingredients we don't eat. They could really work on the service instead of making sure to ask EVERY single person if they are going to tip after saying their total.

Yelp
acabo de salir de este lugar, y la verdad se merecen este comemtario, excelente comida, creo que en Miami no hay lugar que cocinen tan sabroso como aqui, muchas felicidades para los cocineros y en general a todo el equipo, 100% recomendado

Sydney R.

Yelp
Pricey but my favorite is ropa vieja plate! Recommend going. Especially for lunch maybe even dinner.

Diana E.

Yelp
Out of 30 selections maybe 3 things dont have pork. I understand hispanics love pork but if you dont eat pork simple this place is not for you. I love tamales all they had was tamales with pork no chicken or plain no just pork tamales en casuela pork 4 different rice only white rice without pork. Yuca with pork sprinkled over it i get it but simply zero selection its not too hard to make 5 tamales de polo or plain. Oh well.

Lourdes R.

Yelp
Placed order for catering for the afternoon and I want 45 min after time I had said and they took an additional 30-45 min to get me the food. I was late getting home to my guests. Food was good and plentiful but not worth the lateness in their timeline instead of mine. The attendees were apologetic but were laughing at my insistence to the food to be done on time. Good food but not worth the aggravation of their not honoring having it ready.

Yelp
Cafeteria style restataurant. You go to serving line ND order the food. Daily specials are a great deal for $6.85

Jason C.

Yelp

Yelp
Best food I have ever bought. Their Moro rice and their chicken is so awesome and delicious. Never have I ever ate at a restaurant that the food was too die for but Casa Maíz their food is too die for. Extremely Delicious. Please try them you won't regret it. I promise!!! Congris, Maduros, chicken. Yummmy .

Yelp
Giving them 1 star because I have to give something. Major sigh! Phew... where to start with this place. I've lived in the area since before this place even existed. I remember when they first opened I was soooo excited to see a food by the pound place near home. Man, this place HAS ALWAYS BEEN A DISAPPOINTMENT. For starters, let me give you guys insight into my mind and culture, especially for people that aren't Cuban. Most of us are aware of Cuba's dictatorship and how it's lasted over 6 decades, well in the very early 90s after the fall of the Soviet Union Cuba entered something called "el periodo especial" which translates into "the special period". Food was so scarce that people ate stray cats and even pieces of cloth made to look like meat (true story). Due to the lack of food and ingredients a lot of our dishes changed forever. They had to eat and cook with whatever they had. Why the history lesson you ask? Well, it's important because I categorize Miami Cuban food into two categories, "pre-special period" (GREAT CUBAN FOOD), and "POST-SPECIAL PERIOD". (Terrible, nasty, tasteless, gross Cuban food). I can almost bet my life that the owner of this place came to the US late 90s or after the 90s. Unfortunately, again, due to Cuba's issues a lot of our cuisine has changed for the worse! The seasonings are lacking, hygiene with food is terrible, and so forth. AND DEFINITELY FORGET ABOUT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE! Good customer service and Hialeah are oxymoronic. Not going to happen. This place calls itself "the house of corn" and their tamales are nasty asf!!! The only reason I've gone back is to give them a chance, that and that they're literally walking distance from my house. They've been consistently bad!!!! Their chicharrones are dry and old asf. No salt. Very chewy. The tamales I ordered today tasted sour and had a bad smell. They don't even use pork in the tamales. It had some type of ham. I'm OVER giving them chances. They are 100 percent cancelled. Also, it is true that the place gets packed, however I'd like to note something. The people that flock here are the same type of people that grew up eating this gross, tasteless, badly seasoned food. The same post-periodo especial people. To them the food is great. They don't know any better. They also think they are getting a good value as they get more bang for their buck. Honestly, in my opinion good Cuban food, traditional Cuban food is getting harder and harder to find. But this place is definitely NOT IT.

Charlene R.

Yelp
Amazing food exactly like Cuban food I looking forward for coming back again. Thanks

Tomas A.

Yelp
This place used to be awesome. Used to have great food. Went by today for lunch and first thought was wow that was expensive. $18 for a plate of food. And even get asked for tip. She literally asked me 10%/15% or 20% tip. You get paid to put the food in the plate. If I decide to Tio that's my prerogative . I thought whatever it's good food. Bwas I wrong. The portions shrunk. At least the meat portion did. I ordered the fried rice witch was was very old. The ham was bad, veggies were all wilted and bad. The meat was also old and very small portion. Over all not happy. WILL NOT RETURN !!! Threw it in the garbage where it belongs. Wanted to give no stars but that's not an option
google avatar

Belinda A.

Yelp
This place is a scam!! They charge you more than what they advertise, I asked for the manager and he didn't care and decided to throw away the food that was made specially for us. He just didn't want to match the price that it's clearly advertised all over the restaurant This doesn't make any sense and it's absolutely the worst customer service. I do like their food but I fail to get the worst customer service. For sure I won't come back here again. Fired the manager that won't provide good service to customers. DONT FORGET YOU ARE STILL IN BUSINESS BECAUSE OF CUSTOMERS!!! Ps. We had pollo tropical instead of casa maiz and the service was amazing.

David L.

Yelp
Awesome Cuban food, tasty Argentinian meats outside on the sizzling grill and the service both indoors and outdoors is 5 stars! How good you ask? The pan con churrasco! There I said it! It does the job every time! It truly is a ridiculously good tasty churrasco! I always load it up with everything... lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and of course the very important chimichurri sauce! If you go indoors my go to is the arroz imperial! The variety of food inside is vast and it's set up like a cafeteria style for servings. A couple things to note before making a trip here to Casa Maiz is there will be traffic. The establishment is surrounded by construction that just never seems to end in Hialeah. There is parking available on site but it's usually packed to maximum capacity too. There is some very few parking spots located along the street. Also if you go around lunch or dinner time, and especially the weekends! Expect long lines, and the place to be slammed! This is a spot that has just been getting more popular as more people find out about it!

Yelp
Good cuban food I came here looking for good cuban tamales and I found them. The road in front of the restaurant is being fixed so getting to the restaurant is a pain. The tamales were large they taste like the ones my family make for the holidays. The restaurant itself has a good variety of food choices .it's cafeteria style serving. there is an outside grill, Good meat variety.
google avatar

José A.

Yelp
This is strictly a take-out review... A typical Cuban establishment that is frequented and visited greatly by the locals. Spending a quick couple of days visiting my mom, we got take out from here as it is one of her favorite places. The place itself is clean, the quick to-go service is efficient, and the price is about right. As the food goes it was good, not necessarily spectacular but definitely solid. I'd give the place 3.5 stars if I could (Yelp, maybe one of these days?) The unique item (at least for me) was their corn soup. Nice and thick and very tasty. Next time I'd like to try the food off their out door grill.
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
We were very disappointed today with the quality of food at Casa Maiz, very different from our first visit in 2016. Poor quality meat used for shredded beef. The tamales were very dense and dry. Little to no pork inside them. The employees were very nice. The food, not so much. Not worth the trip from Broward County.

Yelp
If your interested In grabbing some food by the pound this is a spot to try out. For me it's conveniently on the way home so I stop a few times a month to grab dinner. They tend to have about 20 different things to chose from daily. They also change the food menu everyday. With choices of meat, fish, poultry, soups, rice , beans, and sides. They have desserts prepped to go and natural fruit juices. I love their fufu de plátano ( mashed plantains) with ropa vieja (shredded or pulled meat). They have tables inside and outside if you wish to order you food and eat there. They always have many ladies behind the counter to help you out with your order. They have tamal en cazuela, sweet and regular fritura de Maiz, and tamales. I really like the sweet fried corn balls. I will say they are a bit pricey I've gone to other places with the same concept that are cheaper in the area. Still it's close to home so I keep stopping to grab some grub.

Yelp
No social distancing, management let's people gather together. You tell the manager he doesn't care. I reported them to the police but they keep doing this. I guess the police doesn't care either.
google avatar

Nelson R.

Yelp
The worst tamales I have eaten, it was made with just corn flour, not fresh corn as they advertise; after the third bite, you don't know what do if swallow it or dump it, too baaaaad. The rest of the food was just ok, the only thing nice was the clean and neat display of food entrees.

Yelp
I'm not a fan of Cuban food. El Palacio De Los Jugos soured me on a lot of it, honestly. Smaller portions, higher prices, and just all around poor, greasy, bland tasting foods there. A friend of the family suggested we go to Casa Maiz and I nearly declined when he told me it was a Cuban style restaurant. I'm glad I let him talk me into it. Where El Palacio looks like a garbage facility, Casa Maiz is clean. Everything is new, modern, painted well, things aren't falling apart, looks like it was built in this century--you get the idea. The building is smaller, but there's plenty of room for groups, and at least the place is clean. The gigantic grill is outside, just tell them what you want, ribs, pork, steak, chicken, all made to order on the spot. You can actually get on a lot easier here if you don't speak Spanish, too. They'll do pinchos (a skewer kebab type thing), sandwiches, or what ever, just pipe up and it's yours. Portions are large, prices are low, and the dishes are all around delicious. I started out with the steak pinchos and moved on to a grilled chicken sandwich drenched with chimichurri. I'm pretty well done eating for the day after a visit here, no matter the time of day. I loved this place on my first visit, and the family and I come back regularly.

Josie E.

Yelp
Do not eat there. Ordered a chicken sandwich and the girl put on gloves to prepare the rest but just decided to talk on her cell and rubbed her entire face with the gloves!! Yes, she touched my sandwich and didn't even apologize for it !!! Grilled Chicken Sandwich

Leo H.

Yelp
Eaten here many times since it opened but noticed the food lacks freshness, quality and portions are small, not to mention to pricey. Their outdoor BBQ is a better option.
google avatar

Saily L.

Yelp
If you're expecting great service and luxurious dining, don't even step in here. In the center of Hialeah, gated parking, and outdoor parking. It's very similar to a Palacio de los Jugos but 500 times more clean. You order over the counter and the good thing is that you can see the food right there in front of you. They're obviously known for their corn as the name of the restaurant says. We were looking forward to trying tamales but they had ran out for the day! So we got a corn on the cob and frituras de maiz. I didn't really like the sweet ones very much, but the salted ones were great! Inside you order the rice, meat, fish. chicken, etc. Outside you order the corn on the cob. Takes a few minutes so I suggest you order the corn outside first and then go inside and get the food since it is already prepared. The portions they serve are pretty big, great for sharing. I got the pork meat which was ok, I've had better. Congris and maduros. The congris was great, with tiny pieces of chicharron inside! Yumm! (Beware: you can only understand this review if you speak Spanglish) My husband had Atole, which is kind of like a pudding made of corn. Not my cup of tea but he says it was delicious! The corn on the cob was very good. If you order ONE corn it's TWO small pieces. So make sure you have that in mind! Otherwise what you think is 2 corns, turns out to be 4! Now, as to why I didn't give this place 5 stars, even though I thought about it for a minute or two. I personally thought that the women who were serving were a little bit rude. We went with 2 friends, they were ordering their food with someone and so I ask one of the ladies if she could please help me. She tells me, you're already being helped. So I say "No I'm not, my friends are being helped and it's a separate order." So another server stepped in and said "I will help you don't worry." I mean, the place is empty, so you obviously don't feel like working!! I just really can't stand bad service. Anyway, I will definitely come back very soon. Food is great and cheap! A fantastic combination! :)

Yelp
Highly recommended! Absolutely love this place. The food is always delicious. Whether you order inside or outside. Inside they have more of a Cuban food selection (rice, beans, tostones, pork chunks, etc). Outside they have more of an Argentinian food selection, with different kinds of meat prepared for you on their outside grill (steaks, different sausages, chicken, etc). Everything is amazing. It's definitely worth the drive from Boca.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Bought two trays of the arroz campesino and maduros for my sons 2nd birthday, so delicious. No left overs! Wish I would've bought more lol
google avatar

Adriana F.

Yelp
Its really good but I won't give a 5 just because is really small inside so there are not many tables. Other than that, the churrasco was delicious! The corn and onion too! So good! I will come back!

Jose C.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant due to the heavy advertisement and the long lines I've seen at this place. I was completely disappointed. Bad quality meats, tasteless tamales that had no meat inside, dirty tables, long waits and rather rude staff - and on the pricey side. I cannot recommend at all.

Yelp
Casa Maiz definitely has a FIVE STAR TAMAL and their masitas de puerco are pretty good too. We also had the tamal en cazuela which was okay. It could have been so much better if the pork chunks were larger. I mean these were micro sized. Casa Maiz also has Materva because who wants Cuban food without downing it with Materva? Without a doubt their tamal will have me going back. I have been eating tamales for 40 years and Casa Maiz tamales are one of the best I have ever had. Until next time...

Yelp
Really good Cuban food. Although they try to keep up with the "fast pace" very often the new girl forget about the "good customer service" you actually can provide at that pace that makes a customer return... but very good food tho

Yelp
Casa Maiz is delicious! If you can't find a good dish here, then you just don't know Cuban style home cooking. Not everyone uses seasoning as the main course. It's not bland, it's yummy. The grill outside is outstanding, and the Cuban Tamales are out of this world, get them with the sautéed onions (this just adds to the flavor). The parking is ok, but you should leave out the back since the front exit/entrance goes right into a high traffic street. Going out to lunch with good friends from work makes everything great. I highly recommend this spot!
