"Perched on a hill between the busy Zona Sul and hip Santa Teresa neighborhoods, Casa Marques is an all-suites boutique hotel with unparalleled views of Rio. The French-Brazilian couple behind the property blended minimalist modern design with contemporary Brazilian art, creating a space that’s as sleek and subtle as a gallery. Stark white, rooms are decorated with unique local art and artisan-made rugs. Standard suites feature pingo de riga (floor-to-ceiling), wood-framed windows, while master suites include a balcony and expanded bathroom with soaking tub. On the roof of the colonial mansion, there’s an infinity pool and bar overlooking Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Christ the Redeemer. Rates include breakfast on the terrace or in the warm, stylish kitchen lounge, complete with traditional tapioca and Brazilian iced tea. Note that Casa Marques’ stellar scenery means it’s challenging to access—plan on taking taxis whenever you can tear yourself away from the hotel vistas."
Beautiful setting. It’s a peaceful retreat away from busy Rio. The view is stunning as other reviews mentioned, the rooms are very modern and comfy and the bathroom is the best we’ve seen while travelling around Brazil. Breakfast has all you need: fruit, selection of cheese and meat, breads, a couple of pastries and eggs on request. Also the 2 ladies at reception were really lovely :)
I’m giving it 4 stars and not 5 because getting taxis to pick you up is a bit of a nightmare if you’re using Uber or 99. It’s okay with the local taxi company but that costs double. The hotel needs better sign posting so people know how to find it. The second reason is that none of the night guards seem to speak anything other than Portuguese and they start at 8pm I think. So if you were arriving in the evening and were struggling to find the place it would be a nightmare to get instructions from the night guard. At least that was our experience...
I still recommend staying here because the positives outset the negatives but just have your expectations managed before you arrive!

Amazing experience. A beautiful stay at a boutique hotel on a hill in Santa Teresa. What a getaway...you are far away from the hustle and bustle so if that is what you want this is the place. The views are spectacular, staff friendly and we could watch the sunrise from our room this morning. What a gift. A perfect view of both sugarloaf mountain and christ the redeemer. Spectacular stay!

Extremly nice lady at reception desk. Room has a view on sugar loaf (I think all rooms have that). Great view! But... room a bit small and there is not enough storage place.... Bathroom could be nicer.

Lovely boutique hotel with stunning views, helpful staff, good breakfast included and a nice quiet pool area and bar.
It's true that the location (Santa Teresa) can be a bit more tricky to get to and from by car/cab than if you are staying in Central Rio by virtue of it being very windy/hilly. Santa Teresa is a quaint and charming place in its own right, however, and as long as you're patient and allow a bit of extra time to get around you won't have any problems.
It's pretty convenient for getting to places like Lapa, Escadaria Selaron and Christ the Redeemer and there are some nice restaurants in Santa Teresa.

Clean and modern rooms, with a great view. The terrace area is perfect to chill out away from the busy city. Very friendly staff.

Nice property, but if you can not eat bread prepare to starve. Breakfast is 3 pieces of bread with 2 pieces of Salami. Shops are far away... Just its not right for a hotel like that.
